It can add a lot of value to your company depending on which service is being migrated, however, there are competitors that provide better (but more expensive) tools. Pros Extremely easy to use tool. It has an easy and intuitive interface, people with little experience in the technology can quickly learn to use it. It has excellent integration with other Google Workspace applications. Today, within Google Chat it is possible to interact with other applications such as Tasks (create, edit), Calendar (schedule events with co-workers), Drive (create and edit files), all without leaving the Gmail interface. It is also possible to integrate the tool with other applications, such as chat bots. Cons Compared to other communication tools on the market like Slack or Discord, the tool becomes inferior. However, Google is constantly updating the tool and promoting integration with other services in order to improve the experience. I’ve found it to be the best program for messaging as it’s easy to integrate other google programs. Pros I like the file section the most. Having all the files that were sent in the chat in one location for easy access is very convenient especially when working on a project. We stay connected and because it easy for the teenagers, the older members as well as the elderly members. By the click of a button we can chat, gossip and laugh while knowing we are all still connected with ease. Very user friendly and I would suggest this software program to anyone that is interested. Pros It is most impactful with the software program because I can have all my contacts/friends at a listing that is easy to access. I like that I can just tap on their names/pictures and the chat box gives me the capability to text/message them at the drop of a dime. There are times I like just like to just click on the button to video chat so easily. Either I can individually talk with my Hangout partner or just create a group chat for all my family members. Cons I haven't gotten into the aspect of Google Hangouts while using workspace. I have read upon how the pricing is a little confusing. If the creators could give a better option to combine this aspect all in one and make it where the pricing is labeled easily, I think on the business side we would probably use it. Simple, easy to use, snd trusty. I can log in to my google account without having any fear, because it was made by google. Pros I think the notifications were the best feature. The instant send thru messages combined with the notification’s buzz really tops it off and makes it by far the most useful addition. Cons Like any other product, learning how to use the app and the controls can be hard to learn. But since this is a chatting app, Imdon’t have to worry about anything like that, and I can use it with ease. I can send unlimited texts at no cost whatsoever, which is a very cost-effective way of communicating with employees. Pros I like it how easy it is to search for a contact within the chat. It also enables me set reminders, which keeps me on tabs of all the things I need to do throughout the day. The messaging app is reliable and very secure. It allows for all of us with Gmail accounts to interact seamlessly. It is a wonderful tool that has reduced the number of messages in my inbox. If I want my chatbox to read unavailable, I can easily sign out from the chat. Cons The pop up messages can be so distracting especially when concentrating on work. At times the messages fail to send and I cannot make out if its the internet connection that has issues or the app. At times the app can be too slow and groggy. Pros Gchat as we call it is really useful when coordinating multiple teams and projects towards a single goal. It helps you take care of your own team, coordinate meetings, integrate google calendar, drive and docs to better synchronize your workflow. You can coordinate with other teams, and request their collaboration with docs or files, it becomes a very hollistic and pivoting software for home office workers. Pros It is easy to communicate with your team members when they are not in office, or in office and you have a simple question or request. The ability to know they are in meetings is also great as then you are not waiting for an answer without knowing why you did not get an immediate response. Cons When you are working on a different program on your computer, it does not show you as active. You are still working, however not directly using your chat, and it does not recognize this. That's it Cons TBH, this would not even be on my list of chat apps if I had a choice, but certain work situations require it. Sigh. What's lacking? Can't see if read/unread. Replying specific message is impossible, but you can manually copy, put in \`\`\`quotedtext\`\`\` to quote in a very unaesthetic monospaced font display. Emojis are a multi-step selection process unless you somehow memorise the text shortcuts for less basic ones like :( On desktop if you use the chat sidebar in Gmail, it will take up your full Gmail inbox space OR pop up into a little window that's way too small by default and stuck to the bottom of the screen — this is a massive UX irritation if you need to arrange your windows/tabs in a certain way for quick switching between apps for work. Would seriously suggest Google allows free floating chat windows in Gmail. Unlike Skype, Google Chat offers a more modern set of features. Foremost is the way in which content can be directly shared in the chat window such as images or image previews from URL resources. Rich content can simply be pasted directly into Google chat and seamlessly integrated into the conversation. In Skype, copy pasting an image results in the image being sent as an attached file which is disruptive and really negates the convenience of sending an image over IM versus more conventional means such as e-mail. Overall Google Chat offers a modern approach to enterprise instant messaging that simply works and works well. Cons One of the main concerns for Google Chat revolves around the precarious nature of Google long term product support. On the other side of the fence Skype users are migrating to a more Discord or Slack like application called Microsoft Teams. This next generation of application incorporates IM into a broader context that includes more robust moderation and content sharing capabilities. As of now, Google Chat is in a branding transition to be incorporated as Google Hangouts Chat which indicates that Google intends to stay in the IM application space, but its not clear what features will be updated to bring Google Hangouts Chat in-line with competing applications. Unfortunately, I had to switch to Zoom Meeting for most of my video conferencing needs just because Zoom has more functions such as meetings vs webinars as well as breakout rooms. I still have an active Hangouts account but I don't use it as much as I used to. Pros It is easy to use. Since almost all o my team have Gmail accounts, it is easy to plan and have appointments synch to the team Google Drive as well as individual Google calendars for meetings and team events. In addition, it is easy to use with external vendors/partners and clients as well. Cons I wish it was compatible with other software like Dropbox. This would make it easier to share files outside the G-suite.
