You can use sepereate chats for seperate individuals as well as group chats for everyone you need to keep in contact with. Pros I love using Google chats because its simple to use, in my opinion is much better than hangouts. Its connected to your Gmail so you can converse with your contacts easily. You can even sign off on Google chats if you dont wanna be seen online at the moment. Google is a secure site you dont have to worry about getting hacked through Google chats as well. Cons The notification build ups are a bit annoying sometimes and the difference between the desktop app and the mobile app can is noticable meaning the things you get to do on the app may not get done on the desktop vice versa. The ability to add gifs is the whipped cream and cherry on top! Pros I really like it's integration within Gmail. It'd nice that I don't have to have something else open and taking up space on my desktop for it to work. It's also nice that convos are mirrored on the phone app. Cons While it's nice that it is integrated within Gmail, it doesn't have enough visibility in the Gmail window. July 31, 2021 4.0 I switched to Google Hangouts Meet because of the price (always been free for me so far). Because of COVID I was using online classes and meetings a lot and kept running out of time or running out of funds to budget the video conf. cost. For the price, it is great and does save me money, especially since everything had to be distanced for so long. Pros Google Hangouts Meet is a good app for the price(free). It works great for quickly planned meetings, quick chats, and such. Overall it is a good tool to try. Cons What I have disliked about Google Hangouts Meet is that almost every laptop user I have dealt with for some reason has to change the speaker setting that they are using to hear you. This is not something that has ever happed with a video app before. Also, the google invite link always works if it was just sent. So if you are planning something last minute you are good to go. If you are planning something in advance though 7 times out of 10 the link won't work for all or just some and you'll have to start over in the moment. Notifying the related channels, creating alerts and communicating with intersection teams are in my daily jobs. Rather than its competitor, this is really better. Pros First of all, it is simple and has easy usage. No need to learn additional commands or screens. If you already know how to use Gmail, it is as easy as this. A new channel is can be created easily. The most important point, I have never faced an outage even in the rush hours or dates. Its design is clean and there is no unnecessary complexity. By using its API, easily we can send notifications to the related teams if needed. Cons Text formatting is not easy. They might put some buttons to make it easy. One thing that is a bit annoying, you can't video call without sending a request even if this is a person that you video call regularly. It is fairly new though so it may not allow the flexibility of slack or teams but im sure it will improve as they update something every few months Pros I like the vault feature best, so even if i delete an important chat it will be available for compliance and archiving. File permissions is another thing i like in google chats compared to other communication tools as it allows me to select share a file in a group with a particular set of people within that group. Cons I think its APIs at the moment are fairly limited and do not provide a lot of integration options with third party tools. Wonderful experience is all that i can said. Pros Google Hangouts is free to use and comes with Gmail account. I can create and join multiple chat group to help me separating from work group chat and personal and social group chat. Another thing that i like is, it can be easily accessed from my smartphone as i mostly only have my smartphone when i am out from office. Cons What i like the least with Google Hangouts is, it has limitation on file size that can be sent thru the software. I can only sent and attach a maximum of 200MB file size, and need to switch to other file transfer software to sent a file that sized more than 200MB. Other than that, this software is very helpful in connecting me and my colleague. Gmail won't be the same without having Google Chat attached to it. Pros I like how Google Chat is integrated into Gmail. You can easily message people on your contact list while writing emails. I also like how you can actually call phone numbers on the call/video feature. Not all chat programs have this. I used to use this feature when calling clients so my personal number would not show up on caller ID. It's easy to have group chats as well. Cons I heard that they are phasing Google Chat out of the desktop version of Gmail. This is unfortunate as this is really the only place I use it. I tend to use other messenger apps on the phone. One thing I wished they had changed was the ability to scroll through contacts easier when looking for the person you want to send a message to. Right now, only a small pop up box shows up, and you need to scroll through the entire list. There needs to be a way to just type in the contact name to have the message box pop up. As it is linked to google, many things can be done with and through it. It's a great software to help team meet and discuss. Pros Super easy to use as it is directly linked to events in your G-calendar. Once you create an event to book a video call with someone, the link appears directly. You can easily find it back in your calendar. You can also add in some integration like Modjo and else to make it even more powerful. It's a cool software because it allows teams/people/companies to meet and see each other. Features are great : You can chat in parallel, raise hands, share screens etc. Cons Sometimes it seems like the software is not fluid enough. It depends a lot on how many people have their camera on, the internet reach, etc to make it work efficiently. When it bugs, people in my team tend to switch to other softwares. This kept everything organized and in one space. That's been phased out and Google is pushing for Google meet and chat to take over but besides that it's been my go to for over ten years now. You can keep your personal number private and have Hangouts be the business cover and still have everything go to one device if you choose. Cons It's very minimal on it's capabilities now that Google voice has been removed. You can't make calls without voice. Also the need to have a Gmail account can be frustrating if the person you want to talk to doesn't have Gmail, now that voice is removed.
