For that reason, it's my go-to video chatting tool. The integration into Google Calendar is also handy. Cons It's not nearly as feature-rich as some alternatives. It won't replace your need for a tool like Zoom or WebEx, but it is a nice alternative for quick calls. Besides that, our daily work communication and collaboration is easy with it, even for non tech users. And being a part of GSuite, integration with the rest of it gives us a lot of possibilities, beyond daila chatting. Pros Clean and simple. Easy to access existing chats or create new ones, groups. I use the webhooks in some modules I've developed for my company and there are never any issues with them. API is very well documented so it was very easy to integrate it. Easy to find keywords or people. Collaboration during pandemic home office was possible thank to this software. Integration with the rest of GSuite is cool too. Love the dark mode. May 24, 2022 4.0 I use Google chat because the access is extremely easy, if someone doesn't use this tool, they just need their Gmail account and they are in, plus this chat is a bit more professional because you can integrate it with applications like Asana through Bots. Pros What I like most about Google chat is that I don't require installations and learning curves; having my Gmail account, it's as easy as logging in or activating it. I can easily add contacts through their email (this is the main way I use, but there are more ways to do it). It also has the connection to Workspace tools, so I have access to my Drive files to collaborate in group rooms or in a private chat. It's very basic but I find it essential for dealing with colleagues. I work freelance right now, so am using it less these days, but in the past have worked in charities and it is essential to day to day communication with co-workers. It allows you to easily and quickly ask small questions without clogging up the inbox with unnecessary emails, and also without physically getting up and having to disturb people in the middle of their work day. I've been with orgs that have used project management software; they have been very expensive and in the end the only function we've really ended up using is the chat. GSuite already has that, and it's free. Cons It doesn't pretend to be anything different, but it's very basic. If Google expanded it even a little bit it could easily supplant things like Slack, which many people/organizations are currently making use of, as it allows for things like topic threads and easier group file sharing. Cons This software is rebranded to Google Chat, and with it, some of the feature that it used to has have been removed or reallocated. This is the software where we actually have group chat at work. One of our group chat is for log-in information so we can track the chat time stamp from there and compare it with the log information we have on the screen monitoring software of the company. Pros It is the quickest way to communicate with the people at work specially when you are always on your google email. The mobile version also give me the ease of getting important or urgent worl related matter even when i'm not in front of my computer. File sharing is also great because other platform doesn't have this option. I can easily send screen capture needed by my team leaders for checking our work progress. Cons Only with the screen sharing, there is no option to share sound of your computer. I believe that this feature requires improvement. But if you are not doing any post production job then its fine. It is the easiest and quickest way to communicate with people at work specially if your companmny is using google server email. It still doesn't have nearly the sort of integration support that Teams does and it's certainly nowhere in Slack's territory. But if you want something that "works" just to have a chat platform, well, it's there. Pros Google Chat is included with a Google Workspace subscription, so if money is an issue, using Google Chat can help you save money versus paying for something much more expensive like Slack. Cons Google Chat's interface is frustrating to say the least. They killed the Google Chat desktop application, and the web application has a habit of being slow and clunky. There aren't nearly the same sort of integrations with Google Chat as with Slack or even Microsoft Teams; and believe it or not, I've actually spoken with the \[SENSITIVE CONTENT HIDDEN\] at Google, and he's an absolute idiot. Thanks to him, for instance, every time you paste in a link in Google Chat, a MASSIVE preview bubble appears, and there's no way to disable this. He seems to think it's the bee's knees. Pros The notifications. In old version, I don't used to get proper notifications for calls. The updated version is really good and easy to use. We don't need to segregate the group chats and personal chats from now. This is one of the good options given by the developers and I love it The best thing in this app is we can now get the mail ids easily. In older version, it was hard to find a mail id when we get a message from an unknown user and now there is no such problem. additional option- Pin the conversation this was no there in old version. Easy to share photos, Gifs and easy to create meetings. One more best feature is we can easily organize our events in calendars. The font change option is good. Slide left to unread and slide right to pin really good. Overall the new version is very good Cons I would love to see the below options which are currently not available in Google chat. 1. Voice messages 2.Private/Temporary chat option There is one more problem which the developer team has to look into- video calls. The video calls quality is not really good in this version. I was expecting a changeover but the quality of video calls are still the same. It works but I prefer to switch to any other messenger when I have a chance. Even Skype I like more. The only plus of Google Hangouts is an easy access from Google Mail. This is the only reason why I continue using it. Pros I have been using a lot of different messengers for my work and every day life, and I should say that I do not like Google Hangouts. It is stable, simple, multi-platform, it is in-built in google mail, you can use it to text and call. And these are all positive things that I can say about it. These are the minimum any present messenger can do. Cons Comparing to other messengers, functionality of Google Hangouts is very limited. You cannot reply, delete or edit your messages. Its design is very primitive and outdated. When I started a video call from my mobile device with my colleague I could not join the same call from my computer. I was added to a work group chat and I have never received a notification about it. I have sent invitations to my colleagues and they were never accepted, I suppose for the same reason. Cons There are limitation on people that can join the video conference and it is not too effective to be use with a large audience. However, I still use it! ;) Pros The fact that this chat tool is 100% integrated to the suite of Google applications that we use in the company, makes everyday work with it very simple. It has the possibility of being used both from a PC (via web or through the standalone version) or from a mobile device. Cons Several points against: 1- the mobile version for Android does not solve the whole well to do with notifications, even more if it is used with the standalone version together. 2- The notifications in the mobile version take a while to arrive in comparison with other chat applications that we have used (HeapChat, for example). 3- The user interface and the actions that are carried out many times are not entirely clear until you learn them (for example: how to attach an image or document in a conversation, in which it is unclear what to send this document once attached to it). 4- The updates: they are very frequent and many times the session is lost when restarting the application after it. Cons Chat by Google needs high random access memory and high speed internet to function. If there is not enough RAM or there are lots of Google Chrome tabs which are consuming the available RAM, Chat will lag in response time or slow down. When using a smart phone, Chat works well only if its mobile app is downloaded which again takes high phone memory. However, I haven't been able to use it in most of my work experiences. Even when I worked on a team that exclusively used G-suite (Google Docs, etc) we found ourselves communicating through Discord. Pros This is easier to navigate and more aesthetically pleasing than anything Microsoft produces, in my opinion; it certainly blows most third-party apps out of the water. Everything simply feels "figured out" by now, I never experience bugs or pause to lament on some missing feature, I just get my work done and my messages out. Mobile sizing as an app on computer screens is especially nice, to have it pulled up but neatly out of the way. Cons Unfortunately, I just haven't worked in many places or met many friends who use Google Chat. I find it superior to most workplace options, but it doesn't fit in well with Microsoft products even though I try. Friends of course would rather communicate another way, including myself.
