Teacher E-Learning Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Clean, Organized Messenger" June 24, 2021 4.0 Overall, Hangouts is useful when trying to keep tabs on a number of conversations with Google. It isn't the flashiest tool, but it certainly gets the job done. Pros This product is certainly easy to use. Users will get what they expect, a simple way to communicate with other Google users. It's incredibly easy to begin and continue conversation, and there are a number of tools available during a conversation (attachments, video chat, etc.) that add to its functionality. In the end, it's a simple, clean tool for holding conversations, both with one individual or with a group. Cons Keeping tabs on where each conversation is is a bit of a challenge. Hangouts sorts all discussions in a long, scrolling list. Conversations can be found by typing into the search bar by using group members' names, but this leaves much to be desired since there is no way to organize and prioritize conversations. They are always making updates and from what i've seen I haven't been disappointed. Cons Nothing I can think of. Maybe just easier access to knowing how to raise hand and other functions like that for first time users. Maybe a tutorial ability but i'm nit picking. I'm able to message any of my coworkers about a variety of things. When I'm chatting with someone about where to go for lunch or what snacks are in the break room, it works great. Cons However, whenever I message someone about something work related, I hate that I can't save/ file away that part of the chat! If someone sends me a link I need and then we discuss other things, I have to scroll back past the entire conversation just to find the link. Review Source Nicolas V. It is fast and saves time. Pros Google Chat has changed how professionals,friends and workmates communicate in their daily businesses. I use the product to share official information with my colleagues when I am in office. It keeps the history of previous chats enabling me to track any information shared. Cons This is a great product from Google. I am yet to encounter any problem while using Google chat. It is so easy to start a chat or a group chat and doesn't require a lot of experience to use. Having the google platform set up on all your devices makes things more organized for sure. Pros This program has a simple design, it's quite intuitive, and makes online chatting enjoyable and lots of fun. Being able to access pre-loaded contacts from my gmail email account saves a lot of time! We absolutely love this program. Cons It would be great if this program included a notification of whether a receiver has read a message or not. " April 14, 2022 3.0 Pros Google Chat is great for direct messaging and sharing files. It's an added bonus that it is included with Google Suite. Cons While I found it great for one on one messaging, the group collaboration feels a little busy. In large team chats it can be easy to get lost in the convo. When a thread is created within the team chat, it populates for everyone to see, rather than being hidden until you click in. This may just be personal preference, or take getting used to. However I prefer the UI of Slack. Pros It provides all the features we need from a tool for communication between remote team: Chat, call, video, share screen, the possibility to make groups of people, etc. Cons To make a simple call with a colleague, instead of a simple click on the colleague, I need to click on an icon for video call, click enter to send that call to a colleague, click on the icon of the call to go into call room, turn off camera (since we don't use it for every call), and click join at the end. Definitely not necessary to have but comes in handy that it's available. Pros Integrated seamlessly into the rest of G Suite making it easy to communicate with colleagues. Pros The simplicity with which this software can be installed and used on a daily basis is astounding. A child could do it all without any guidance at all. Well done! Cons The software tends to hang up and also tends to repeat the same chat message twice on some occasions. However, these instances are few and far between so overall no major negative impact on performance. Pros Integration with other Google tools, including Gmail, makes it simple to implement. I like the ability to start chats and video calls straight from Gmail and to manage contacts across both, as well as see your contact list straight from the gmail homepage. After 14 years in the classroom this is definitely a very easy way to communicate with others, and make sure that you are not interrupting their class time with questions or needing to get a hold of them. Pros So simple to use and leave open in your Google account at any time. I often have chats up with my coworkers or students throughout the day for correspondence instead of email. With easy integration to all our everyday use of Google docs and calendars, it has simply become a communication tool of choice for our dispersed (remote) teams. You are easily able to talk to people outside of the organization which is great because I have run into issues with other programs where this was not an option. I also love how easy it is to use Hangouts, Gmail, and Drive. Cons When using the video call option, it is more often than not, pretty laggy and when using the texting feature, there is a character limit which can get annoying. Pros Using this schoolwide, I can immediately send a message out to the entire team asking a question, or receive updates about a fire drill, etc. It doesn't require I check an email or send a text message, but it allows me to stay connected to the school. Furthermore, I can go back and read them anytime, serving as a form of documentation. Cons I haven't determined how to print the conversations when I need them, other than screenshots.
