Senior Accountant Oil & Energy Used the software for: 6-12 months ### "Spectrum is an effective and comprehensive Software for Job/Work Order Tracking" July 7, 2023 5.0 I have been learning about the Job module and it seems to be a very comprehensive system. I think there is a lot more that a Company could do with the various options within the module and then the analysis via reporting. Pros There are so many features that still need to be integrated into the user experience. The Webinar was extremely useful as I learned and advised the AP department of the function for the Automatic importing of invoices. The Banking and cash management is very straightforward and clearcut. I like how the modules are arranged and how they can be made favorites which makes my job more efficient. Cons 1) sending PR to multiple bank accounts within a company needs to be posted to Suspense and then journaled into the correct bank account - I'm not sure why that is.2) I wish the "favorites" actually reflected the "original path" of the favorited item (in the menu to the left). Sometimes when teaching someone else, it's hard to remember the original path. Review Source ST Stephen T. Pros As a construction accounting software package Spectrum offers solutions for most of our essentials. With help from a knowledgeable consultant we've been able to to modify or create the reports we need. Cons Timesheet entry is missing mobile components and approval processes offered by third parties. Project and document management is not as robust as Procore. Scheduling for labor, tools, and equipment and comparing against estimate, budget, and actual doesn't functionally exist. We are spending a lot of time, money, and effort to research, source, purchase, and integrate third party applications. We do not feel with the fees we currently pay that we should have to pay someone to guide us thru something we were not taught or needed to go back over, tech support should able to do so. Pros the uploadable pdf function to put with invoices Cons Equipment Control/Fixed Assets, very unfriendly for job costing, to hard to track with the way the system is set now, also if you have depreciated out a piece one time and an error was made you cannot correct it, you cannot do a negative to get it back on track or to change months of depreciation etcChange order entries are redundant and not easy to enter in, does not automatically show the new billing items when you do the draw requests, you have to then manually enter into the draw request even though you made a billing item in the change order Reason for choosing Viewpoint Spectrum we were told things would work differently and the job costings and equipment would work a little differently Review Source KS Kathleen S. Contract Administrator/Benefits Construction Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Human Resources, Subcontracts and Purchase Orders" July 18, 2023 5.0 Spectrum is an excellent upgrade from our previous platform. While there are still improvements to be made to the HR, Subcontract, and PO sections I use, the product as it stands is very user friendly allowing our entire administrative team to see all changes and updates in real time. Pros I love the search feature which allows partial word search of employee name, vendor name, or even addresses! Having all attachments digitally available through various access points is great too! Cons Some areas in the employee section and lower-tier subcontract section do not allow for attachments to be added, which is problematic and requires items to be saved where they do not necessarily make the most sense. Tracking for 1095 C forms is terrible, I do not use this at all because of the inefficient upload and download for each each employee needed to track monthly. There are many changes I would make in the employee area, making it easier to record and track employee benefit information. I use a separate Excel spreadsheet to track hires, terms, benefits, required mailings because Spectrum does not meet my needs. In the Subcontract area, the character limitations in the description of each phase code requires me to download the printed form into Adobe and add detail/make edits before sending to vendors. I enjoy the Help feature as well, whenever i need assistance finding, generating and overall questions - this is a great tool. mostly, all you need to keep track of all your projects are in one pie! Pros Features and functionalities are easy to navigate, while maintaining and keeping track of all pieces of the projects together. Except for the cons that I typed. Pros The best pros in Viewpoint are connection (Sync) and update. All the update is synced right away. So this was so helpful to me to work on a computer or mobile phone. Cons Regarding Uploading and downloading the pictures.Our company stop using picture with Spectrum. Because of how hard it is to download and research it.I know you guys make "Tag". But it was not the solution to the work. Also, the Login system makes me so stressful. I have to use this piece of shite software 40 hours a week and it never fails to fill me with absolute rage. Cons I dislike just about everything about Viewpoint Spectrum. It seems like it was created in 1996 and hasn't been updated since. It lacks the most basic of features, such as MULTI SELECT. All processes take 5x as long as they should. They have a suggestions site, where they continuously mark suggestions that do NOT exist as "already exists". If they have a UX team, they must not be paying them enough. One thing I truly like is the Tech Support. \[SENSITIVE CONTENT HIDDEN\] is the best one. Besides the question I asked, he can always be proactive to provide me more info on the related items I need to know. Others are good, too. Pros User friendly. Experienced Tech Support. Listening to the customers' needs, and always growing with better function. I used Oracle before. It's very hard to use. No common sense and always have to check for error. Although we can't customize a software like Oracle JD Edwards, but it's actually better. As a user, we don't need to "design" a software. We only need a software that works and easier to use. We have been on board since 1996 and so we are very well versed in it. Pros Ease of use; job cost accounting; ability to have multiple companies Cons I do HR and payroll, so I do feel there are features in HR that could be improved; Viewpoint, in general, works very well for what we do. Since we have had the system since 1996, there have been many integrations since we purchased and I feel like some of our processes are older and support doesn't know as much about the older processes. For example...the way we set up union codes and wage codes....evidently our way go back many, many years and there is a more supported way of doing it now, but making the transition is tough. Reason for choosing Viewpoint Spectrum At the time we purchased the software, the moto was "It's 10:00 am, do you know where your job is" and that is exactly what our \[SENSITIVE CONTENT\] was looking for. However, we feel like over the years, so many things have changed that that moto doesn't really remain valid with the use of the software. VP Finance Construction Used the software for: 6-12 months ### "New Spectrum User" August 23, 2022 4.0 We are still developing our processes as we are still a relatively new user, but overall we have had a very good experience with Spectrum. Pros The software was relatively easy to implement and start using after going live. There are numerous canned reports that are very helpful and it is also easy to navigate the database when creating custom reports. Cons The cost projection entry screen desperately needs to be updated. It was so cumbersome to use that we had to hire an outside consultant to build us an Excel template that interfaced with the system. Also, we allocate overhead based on a rate per manhour and this turned out to be a manual weekly process (our old software actually did this automatically). Also, our old ERP made it very difficult to create custom reports and any type of import/export of data was basically impossible. Tracking contracts and change requests are important to us and are easy to do. Payroll processing time has been reduced and AP is so much better now that the invoices are routed. Automated purchase orders are now possible too. Pros The job costing module is valuable to us for tracking the real time cost of our projects. I like the interactive menus that change depending on what features are being used. We are able to have custom reports designed. Cons I have no comments to add here, its a good program. We however need quality help from Spectrum. Pros It works for subcontractors that bid Lump Sum and have complexity in their work. Contractors such as electrical, hvac and suppliers and installers of structural and miscellaneous steel require better accounting than many other subcontractors. Cons Initial Implementation and training has been poor and very frustrating. There have been some good experiences but overall it has been negative and not productive experiences. We own other Trimble products but no one seems to know anything about the other products Trimble sells and we own. We changes to Spectrum for it was supposed to work better than our former accounting system, Computer Ease, but that switch over has not produced the promised results. The difference in the speed of the program has greatly improved our efficiency office wide. There are great tools for our program managers to track every aspect of their projects. Pros Speed of processing. Help function is very easy to use and a great tool. Haven't had to call their help desk once. Integration from our old system was quick with minimal hiccups. Cons Only issue we are having is with getting additional invoice forms created. " April 16, 2018 1.0 If you want a successful implementation with a company that responds promptly and effectively when problems arise, look elsewhere! On our "go live week", Spectrum was not configured, AP and AR were not fully imported and the parts that were imported did not match up. Due to overworked Project Managers, it often took 2-3 days out to schedule a call time with them and no one from Spectrum senior leadership team seemed to care that our implementation was not proceeding successfully. We had to cancel the implementation and revert back to our previous accounting system (at substantial financial cost). I am currently waiting for my PM to update me on how they plan to take us live yet again with a detailed project plan so the above never happens again (Note: My PM never offered any suggestions here, I had to proactively reach out asking for a go-forward plan to keep them organized.) See below for all the struggles we have had with Spectrum. Also if you are transitioning from anyone other then the major accounting software systems, stay away! They promised that they had the past experience and knowledge to transition us from our current accounting software, Starbuilder, but when it came time to transition they had no one who knew how to do it. See "Cons" below for additional problems I will continue to update this post as things evolve. Pros \-None so far as they failed to take us live. -Competitive pricing -Great user community with a forum. Cons Cons: -Custom projects not delivered on time for "Go Live". At least 1.5 months behind schedule -Sales team would send a contract and then when we went to sign said they made a mistake and increased contract price. -Never provided solutions to problems. -Implementation specialist what tell us features about features that we would be using then come back to us and say those features are actually not included and would be additional. -Never told us when purchasing that future modules might not be available for self-hosted customers only to more pricey cloud hosted customers (2 are already not available for self-hosted) -PM teams are not proactive or reactive. -Concerns and problems are documented by PMs but are never reviewed or escalated to management. -The purchase of Dexter+Cheny by Viewpoint has hurt the customers as admitted to by employees and seen by users (Short staffed, reassigned positions, information not shared across teams/ companies. ) -Dexter Chaney/ VIewpoint has not once, without a fight, offered acceptable solutions and any problems caused by them. -User is billed for time spent by PM team to fix problems caused by Dexter Chaney/ VIewpoint -This list can go on for another 30 bullet points at least. Pros It provides the basic information and it is reliable. Cons It skimps on General ledger reporting features.
