The experience has been positive. The team is helpful and responsive, but the platform may not work for your business structure.

Pros

Viewpoint provides a strong accounting platform for the right contracting company.

Cons

The software segmentation will not work for all company types. We have run into issues attempting to implement across all businesses areas.

### "Full featured software package"

As with any large, complex and flexible software package like Spectrum, it can be rather complicated to set up and train users in operating it. We have been overall pleased in using it since we switched back in 2009. During this time our business has just about tripled in size and we do not feel as if we have out grown it.

Pros

Lots of modules available with a fairly robust implementation, continuing active additions of new features and improvements, document imaging allows easy access to attached documents, security rights for employees can be adjusted down to individual menu selections if necessary, customer support is very good and transparent (we are notified if something doesn't work as expected with suggested workarounds - even if we didn't report the issue), and the ability to create custom reports in Crystal.

Cons

While subscriptions for updated US and state income tax tables are available, local income tax tables are not. When a sales/use tax code is entered into the screen, it cannot be marked inactive if it is no longer used (there are some other setups with the same issue). If a report has been previewed or exported in one form (pdf, for example), it cannot be immediately exported in another (such as Excel) without re-running the report. While most reports run quickly, there are some that can take a while and having to wait the additional time for the same information can be frustrating.

The product itself is very useful. Getting to the point where you can use it is a nightmare.

Pros

Nothing is easy about switching from one product to another. We switch from Prolog to Spectrum and the functionality where way different. What I found was the best when switching was that integration between field staff and office admin. Spectrum allowed us to see things in real time.

Cons

The training was poor and there is no manual for using the product. I had to fiscally build a manual that would be user friendly with color codes to assist are staff with the integration. The help center is never gives a timely response so learning to use the software was by trial and error. Put in information and see what it effects.

### "In-Depth Program With Great Potential "

Overall I do like Spectrum. I feel like there are areas it could improve in and that I could be made more modern/ appealing to the eye. When I am busy I am able to answer the phone and navigate through Spectrum quickly to get the information I need right away. The depth of the program is a very good thing as long as they focus on having ways to be able to dig deep quickly or else finding information can become a headache.

Pros

I really like all the different reports that are made available. There are many places to add all different kinds of information and once the information is added in Spectrum allows you to pull reports for everything. Another feature I like a lot is the Favorites Bar. Spectrum is very broad and the Favorites Bar makes it very easy to quickly assess certain features of Spectrum that are specific to your role.

Cons

Some features about the software can be "glitchy" in certain features. For instance we have a tab with lots of information added in to one thing and this can cause Spectrum to freeze up and I will have to close completely out and log back in and start over what I was working on at the time. We have tried different recommendations to resolve this issue, but we get the same result.

Pros

When it comes to Spectrum, there are many reports and easy to use accounts payable and receivable options. The interface takes a second to learn , but once you do it makes sense and is intuitive

Cons

Spectrum does not always make it easy to work collaborative and when it comes to images, it does not make it easy to add or download.

Cons

Vacation accrual system is not what I'd like it to be. I have to do my own spreadsheet to get it to work properly.

I am disappointed in the product, we were over sold, over promised, and under delivered.

Pros

It was a great sales job, but not a good fit after the fact, Should have gone with VISTA

Cons

The navigation, report development, interaction with other software.. very difficult

Overall this software is very average.

Pros

The ServiceTech app for the crews in the field has been very easy to transition to.

Cons

It makes it hard for viewing pictures in the work orders because you can only look at one picture at a time. It also is hard to close work orders that wont be billed out to customers because you have to bill a $0 invoice.

### "Missing some functionality - still tracking things in Excel"

It's ok. Better than Microsoft Dynamics for sure. But there are still a few areas of concern.

Pros

I am able to navigate it relatively easily after some training

Cons

We are still tracking our subcontractor daily reports on an excel spreadsheet outside of the system. We have to do our own tickets in Excel, outside of the system. Perhaps this could also be a training issue? I don't find the help online to be of much use.

I don't like anything about Viewpoint and even worse not that it is a Trimble product the customer support is even worse than before.

Cons

The customer support is not very supportive.

Pros

Spectrum gives me an instant look at open POs or subcontracts, payment history, job and equipment costs, helps to manage compliance (licensing, current COI, etc.), time reports, timecards, vendors, phase/GL/job codes. I can instantly find out whether an invoice has been paid, when we invoiced a customer, whether new equipment has been added to inventory. We have nearly eliminated paper files using Spectrum and digital files. In the past couple of years, Viewpoint has created an outstanding suite of user support that ranges from daily updates, web-based free training, and a responsive staff that helps find learning resources or the right technician/trainer to answer questions. The Viewpoint Network was a game changer for me.

Cons

The reporting function is limited if you don't know Crystal Reports, and the reports aren't consistent. Some are available in comma delimited format, which makes it relatively easy to structure the information in Excel. Others download only as preformatted Excel reports, using an older version of Excel, which is awkward to use.

Horrible, clumsy, not user friendly

Pros

Nothing Zero. Waste of valuable employees time. It is the brunt of jokes and ridicule. Except accounting.

Cons

Equipment module is trash. Too many clicks. Drop and drag scans are painfull. Too many screens. Equipment module appears to be an afterthought. Accountants like it, my entire equipment department deplores it. Promises to make it better were made in years past. Promises broken.

Pros

Most of Viewpoint Spectrum features work really well for us and they are constantly adding new features as well as fixing existing issues.

Cons

Not able to delete invoices during the routing approval process, not being able to send emails after the switch to the cloud, and not being able to change receiving quantities, phases and cost centers as a higher user (administrator).

Would never recommend for the construction industry.

Pros

System had every possible feature that could be desired.

Cons

System was completely dysfunctional. Assessing the system on paper looked amazing, but when we tried to actually use the system is was completely unreliable to effectively accomplish tasks without substantial amount of time and energy to manage the inputs, connections, data management and high level of expertise to not make errors at any point in the processes.

Poor customer service and tech support and this happens over and over.

The technical support is very poor.We were told that Spectrum can not find what went wrong with their system unless we tell them that exact time that the system has issues.We were also told that logs are deleted at 11pm everyday.How is that even acceptable for a software that is used by external vendors?On top of all this, the tech support person was quite rude

Overall, payroll works well and efficiently. On the flip side, employees using "Android" phones can't seem to access their paystubs.

Pros

I use VP Spectrum for payroll only. Time entry works wonderfully and it has clear step by step instructions in Payment Process.

Cons

There is no APP for Canada. Paystubs are not easily accessible by employees.
