As a small cemetery, we started with the desktop version figuring it was the cheapest way to go. And I must say, I had a ton of questions when we started, and to Tom’s credit, and my surprise, his replies were returned in the shortest time I have ever worked with anyone in software support. Always with courteous and easy to understand instructions. But since then he has developed a great tutorial for using his software, probably due to my incessant questions. Do go completely through the tutorial when you start, it is a great help. And even then, if you need additional help, he is quick to respond to your email. Can you imagine how many replies he has made in 34 years yet still is professional enough to personally accommodate you!!! That service alone, for us, was what made his software way above average and worth our usage. When Windows 10 came out, we had to order a newer version for the desktop, but at that time we also went with the online version mainly as I like to have my data on site. You do have to enter all new data online, but the data download service to the desktop works very easy. Using the desktop version is the best backup to have, and is faster than online for searching etc, in my opinion. But maybe a fast internet connection would remedy that. Since then, he has used some of his customers ideas to make it even more user friendly with all his improvements. Do you know of any other developers that would do that? In my experience, this is the best option you can buy, and appears to be the most affordable as well. Pros The ease of use, benefits of the reports and visual map indicating the graves usages. If you're familiar with a spreadsheet, the mapping is easy. Cons With my long experience with this software, I really don't have anything to complain about. The originator of the software makes upgrades often and continues to improve the product. He has been helpful in explaining quick tricks I can do to help with working within the database...always very helpful and responsive. He has guided me with formulating my maps and giving me criteria when I want to create a report so that the report shows what I want. Pros I found the tutorials online to be helpful and then the product support was outstanding. Although one cannot call on the phone, the support through email was timely and thorough, even on the weekends. Every question I have ever had over the years was thoroughly answered. Cons The ability to print out sections of the map database could be enhanced. Sometimes I have to cut and paste in order to get the sections to print but I have found a workaround so it is not a big issue. Changes are easy to make, adding new records is easy. The mapping software is a breeze. Cons I'd like to see a tutorial on Keyboard shortcuts. but it's really no big deal. In my experience, this is almost unheard of to have an answer so quickly. In my opinion, this promptness has made our decision to purchase and stay with \[SENSITIVE CONTENT\] a priority. And the ease of use of this product for our cemetery is a plus, we are very very satisfied with it. Pros We've used this product since 2018, and upon downloading the trial software and experiencing the ease of use and benefits of the reports and visual map indicating the graves usages, it was nearly a no brainer for us. Cons When \[SENSITIVE CONTENT\] dropped the PC version, we weren't very happy because of the "cloud" fear factor, but since we are able to download the online into our PC version, it changed our appreciation. Mainly our dislike of the online version is the hassle of logging in and it also record entries etc take longer than on the home PC where we can just click on it and complete our tasks, whether a quick search on the map for an open grave or a search for someone in the system. Reasons for choosing The Crypt Keeper Most we reviewed were too expensive for our budget and they seemed to be geared towards larger cemeteries and not what we were looking for. Software is easy to learn and use and the support has been tremendous. Cons Our Cemetery can find no cons in regard to this products performance and support. Installation and configuration was straight forward and error free. Able to start working with it immediately. The cost was very inexpensive and multiple cemetery members could be assigned accounts to use it. Really like the option of also having the desktop version to use as a backup of the cemetery database and to issue documents. The mapping feature is simple and does not require aerial photographs to configure. The search capabilities and read-only access by the general public is a welcome feature. Pros We are a not-for-profit historical society whose mission is to preserve and protect the burial records for Union Cemetery, Kansas City Missouri's oldest public cemetery. The burial records are now stored on 3"by 5" cards. \[SENSITIVE CONTENT HIDDEN\] has customized Crypt Keeper to include all the information on the burial cards and more! The added feature of being able to have several users on the site at one time helps transferring information to the site very easy. Cons The only thing that could be a little more user friendly is the mapping feature. Our cemetery is not square or rectangular so it makes using the feature a little problematic.
