February 23, 2024 5.0 I used this tool to design a database with dozens of tables, using the text editor. Generated the PDF with the schema, and the SQL for MySQL / MariaDB, SQLServer and PosgreSQL with a few clicks! The editor is very fast and the learning curve very fast, also thanks to the very clear and comprehensive online contextual help. There is a free plan (up to 10 tables), plus there are paid plans, even weekly! I found the weekly plan very useful to be able to reactivate my license and make small changes to the design, while the longer plans to be able to work on multiple projects. I highly recommend this tool if you need to design a database quickly without having to install specific tools that can limit your speed and productivity. Pros \- Fast textual design decoupled from database type - Export for all major databases, generation of documentation (rtf, pdf, png) - Import from MySQL/MariaDB, SQLServer, PostgreSQL schemas - Collaboration! Cons \- There is no self-adaptation functionality for the diagram, you have to do it manually. I often prefer to use the keyboard instead of mouse for everything I do, as a seasoned full stack developer, terminal is my life. In other software you really cant rely on just text to create diagrams. Thats why creating diagrams on the fly with QuickDBD is super easy and fast. You forgot one attribute? just scroll up and add one line of text. is that easy. It is also super useful when you need to show someone somewhint quick abouth certain arquitecture, it takes seconds to have a working diagram, even so, you can just share the link to your diagram and the other person can see it, live. Overall since I know QuickDBD I use it whenever I need to design a system, even export the diagram as SQL and load it into the db directly. Pros There are a number of features that make QuickDBD my default go-to database diagram software: - Ease of use: You enter text and it creates the entities, the actual diagram, as you type. Not only the diagram appears as you type but you can move and reorder all entities with the mouse, even create relationships in diagram mode and refine them on the text. - Responsivenes: Like I mentioned before the diagram is created as you type. Its incredible the kind of insight you can get just looking at relationships and attributes on the fly. If you edit the diagram with the mouse nothing is choppy and, just works. - Exporting: You can directly export your diagram into SQL of different flavors, MySQL Postgresql, you name it. Not only you can get SQL from your diagram but you can also get a PFD documentation file that would also server as a data dictionary. - Collaboration: YES you can share your diagram's link and have multiple people work on the same diagram, in real time. - Cheap: Its really cheap, compared to similar software, even with less features. Cons Theres only a few minor things, but they are only present on the free plan: - Limits: Free plan is limited to 10 tables per diagram. This might work for your small projects and PoC's, but when you do real projects youre gonna use more than 10 tables for sure. - No private diagrams: All the diagrams you create are public on the free plan. Principal Public Safety Used the software for: 6-12 months ### "QuickDBD - easy collaboration on complex database design" September 23, 2024 5.0 Used it on a project with a standards development organization designing a database prototype to be used in the emergency calling system (US 9-1-1). A group of 6-8 people cooperated in this design. We would make updates to the design, see them reflected immediately in the diagrams and everyone could see what the effect of the change was Pros Very easy to collaborate on designing a complex database and get a decent diargram from the design Cons Not a lot of up front error checking. Pros Easy to use, Super helpful, you can create great looking database schema diagrams really quickly and easily. I've used this tool for both small and large projects. It's so quick and easy to use that I've created new diagrams on-the-spot in meetings for explaining an idea and exploring different approaches. Pros Simple syntax to learn and very easy to use, which means you can start getting work done immediately. It's also browser-based, so no download needed, and work is automatically saved in the cloud. Great for rapidly prototyping an idea but also useful for visualizing and modifying existing data structures. Diagrams are clean, very professional-looking, and can be saved as an image or PDF. I like having the option to create relationships by writing syntax or dragging and dropping in the diagram. The ability to export database schema to multiple formats is a great feature--options include MySQL and SQL Server and others. Cons It's super lightweight, which is good and bad; it's one of the best tools I've used for creating database diagrams, but it's also kind of a single purpose--I could see some people not wanting to add another application into their toolset. It would be nice to have the ability to auto clean-up the layout of the diagram. The ability to perform additional tasks in the diagram would also be useful, such as the ability to add/edit field names and manage relationship types. Review Source PP Pritesh P. Very intuitive, and easy to use after watching only a short 2 minute tutorial on their youtube page. Pros Very easy to quickly create physical data models with clearly defined relationships. No tool makes data modelling as easy as this. Cons It is a shame that only 10 tables can be used in the free version but I guess they have to make their money somehow.
