It allows you to meet with others virtually. There are many good features. It is probably best used with adults or with very small groups of students. But it can be used across the board. Pros It is a good tool for video conferencing needs. It allows you to see and hear the people you are speaking with. There is the option to mute participants, which is a very nice option for E-learning. You can also share your screen, which I do quite often so that my students can see the same thing I see. This allows you to have a decent classroom-experience even from a distance. There is also a chat option that can be used to save notes, ask questions, and put things down in text. Cons The difficulty of this software for e-learning specifically is that students can stay in the "meeting" even after the teacher has left. There is supposedly a way for the teacher to get all students to leave the room and then he/she can close out the meeting and end for all. However, there is a bit of lag time in which the teacher may leave after all students have left, and then a student can rejoin the meeting shortly after. This has caused problems with students being in unsupervised meetings. There needs to be an "end meeting for all" button. Review Source Caroline I. Google hangouts also provide you with an option of making both voice and video calls via the internet which is cheaper than the traditional calling. Compared to gmail communication, Google hangouts provide you with a better option for a quick exchange with your colleagues on something. You can send photos, files etc via the application which is available for both android and IOS users. Cons What I like least about the application is the fact that the voice and video calls are not stable as compared to other options available in the market for video and audio calling. This however dependent on many factors such as the stability of the internet from both ends of the call. Another thing I don't like about hangouts is the fact that the chat and emails from one person are not linked together. June 25, 2021 4.0 in this pandemic situation, it very hard to communicate with each other, google meet help me to overcome this problem, i can easily checkout with my team member. sometimes it freezes , need to restart, other than that, it provides me pleasure. Pros Google meet has a good interface with proper helping information, when i first started using this for video conferencing , it takes only few minute to learn the procedures. to hold a meeting , need to create a room and send invitation link to targeted person is easier than other similar service provider. it has password protection, so that only selected person can join. Screen sharing is also great feature here, As a civil engineer, we need to send weekly presentation to our management, by using this software i can give update easily. It accomplishes those tasks for me easily. Pros This is again a great video conferencing solution. Now that we are living under a pandemic and we have had to shelter in place for a period of time, this is another software solution that has been helpful in connecting clients and potential clients with my office. It is very reliable. I have never had any issues with the broadcast of the video between myself and the client. It is another option in the many video conferencing solutions available for businesses during the pandemic. I have to keep my video conferencing solutions open as clients and potential clients may not have access to other video conferencing solutions. Cons There is nothing about the software application that I do not particularly like or have a specific problem with. It works great for its intended purpose and the purpose of my business. That is what matters to me. Google are always improving there products and everytime I find an issue with their products within a few months or even weeks they have gone. Pros I loved the easy to use link features. Were you can easily share a URL and get people to connect to your meeting. I think was a bit of a revolutionary feature from Google. Skype was the only really viable solution before this and Skype really wasn't very good at all. I think Google really make big leaps and bounds on the quality of the calls too. Skype always broke up as the connection was really sub-par. Google made big advances in this territory. I like the feature where you don't jump striaght into the call too. It's good to be able to see yourself (how you look) before you permit the other person into the call too. Cons I don't like being asked for the quality of the call after I make it, or being asked to review it. I'm a marketer and entrepreneur myself and I know how important this feedback is, but it's so annoying when your mid flow or thought after a meeting and you've got to fill in a questionnaire. I must say companies are getting far better at making these questionnaires as unintrusive as possible. When I'm in chats it's a bit fiddly to see the written comments, when in confrence calls sometimes it's nice to be able to easily click the links that the other people are sharing, I've had a few times where you've got to direct people. I would easily rank it over many of the alternatives in the market place. I can easily jump on a Pros Ease of use. You literally do not need any manual to figure it out. Ease of Setup Can accommodate any and everybody, even if they are from different organizations The app is light so it does not hold your device ransom I love some of the background images that one can use I love that I can provide an attachment for my attendees should they need I also love that it works even if my internet isn't performing at its best, it holds up pretty much very well I love that it integrates with Calendly(mymeeting scheduling app). I didn't need to go through extra hurdles to connect the two apps together. This is a blessing to me. It can do screen sharing Cons It does not have the record button, at least on its free version Can only take up to 100 participants for the free version and the participants must all be Google users I don't think it can handle up to 1000 participants like zoom promises In a group meeting, you cannot single out one person to chat with Can crash on you if too many people join the meeting at the same time You can only use it on Chrome browser The no waiting room where attendees can wait till you admit them in Google has tried different apps from hangouts, to Duo, Wave, Allo...the list goes on... hopefully Google Meet has come to stay. It’s not the product I particularly like, but it comes with the other G Suite products so it is a sacrifice worth making. Pros It’s a basic chat tool. I like that it’s j reheated into gmail so that I can have it even without the mobile or desktop app. I also like being able to have the chat histories in my gmail box to make it as searchable as emails. Being able to write on an image someone shared and reshape it is great. Cons It’s...pretty basic. It doesn’t offer a lot in the way of group chatting. I use so many better systems in my personal use (what’s app, facebook messenger, group me.) you cants drop in files or really share files with a one on one or group chat. I would like a more Slack like option, which we have with google hangouts chat, but one can not migrate to chat oneself without others moving. Group conversations done carry over. Also, we moved from Sametime and I feel we lost other functionality, like away messages that we easily seen. May 6, 2020 4.0 Despite some flaws and annoyances, nothing is quite as seamless in my everyday work life as Google Hangouts. It's especially be very easy to get our older staff on board and using it during this time of distancing. Something like Slack would've been harder for them to figure out, but the "onboarding" for Google Hangouts was a piece of cake in comparison. Pros I like the ease of chatting with colleagues (and friends) from within my primary email client. I appreciate the ease of communication it provides. Cons I hate having to always select the color of skin I want when I send a hand emoji over desktop (THREE clicks to send an emoji??). I also don't like that invitations to connect with someone on Hangouts are often lost in the shuffle. Then I have to text someone to invite me or text them that I invited them. Silly. I had my Google Voice number tied to my Android phone. I set the "phone app" to always dial out using my Google Voice number and I downloaded Google Hangouts and used it exclusively for texting. It worked great, it did exactly what a texting app was supposed to do and had all the features I was using to seeing on any other phone. The best thing ever was that I could use Hangout from my PC. This was hugely convenient for me. Being able to text people from my laptop and even call people directly from my laptop was amazing. Cons I said above that I "had" Google Voice (and Hangouts) on my Android. I actually removed it yesterday. Hangouts never had any issue but sometimes calling people was either finicky or didn't work at all if I didn't have good enough signal. This is because (I assume) I didn't have any data coverage only voice coverage. That meant I was only able to call someone using my actual cell number which I simply didn't use... for anything. This got inconvenient to the point that I ported my Google Voice number to my carrier and made it my actual cell phone number. I was quite sad to lose the ability to text via my laptop. However when I started using the native messaging app in my Android phone it had a pop up giving me instructions on how to text from my Laptop using the messenger app. Huzahhh! Cons What I like least about the software is that when you have multiple people in a room (10+), you cannot access or view some people's video, since it only allows a certain number of people in the grid.
