### "Excel Review"

May 24, 2026

5.0

I have been using Excel for 25 plus years and wouldn't be without it. It does take time to learn to use it properly but with practice it becomes easy.

Pros

Excel is a very handy tool for keeping track of finances in many ways. I use it for cashflows and various types of reporting.

Cons

Complicated formulas, but I do find the Excel help function very useful when I need to learn how to do something new.

### "Excel provides dependability "

January 5, 2026

5.0

Overall Excel is worth every penny spent on the license fee. It's a reliable product that allows you to keep track of all of your data in one sortable location.

Pros

I have been using Excel in both my professional and personal life for many years. The program can be used for many aspects in everyday life.

Cons

The hardest part about Excel is remembering all of the formulas, but with a quick search in the help field or Google you are on your way in no time.

Pros

I love the many different things you can use this program for. I use it for everything from managing my home bills to analyzing data at work.

### "Excel is great"

August 20, 2025

5.0

I use microsoft excel everyday at work to keep track of inventory. It is very easy to use and allows many options for manipulation of the data.

Pros

The versatility of the product. The fact I can write scripts is nice as well. I love that I have multiple options for how I want to manipulate data whether it is scripts, formulas or macros.

Cons

I dont like how difficult it is to make API calls with the scripts. I have tried multiple times to try to access APIs through scripting with Excel with no success.

### "Problems with Excel!"

August 15, 2025

2.0

Always a problem - Excel spreadsheets freeze over nothing and most of the time I have to restart my computer and lose my data just to get them off my screen and start over! So, that's why I give them a (2)!

Pros

Nothing

Cons

The find feature - I hunt for exact numbers but Excel can't find them even when right in front of the number(s)! This is frustrating as hell when the powerful Excel can't fiind it's own numbers!

### "Excel in the HR Space"

October 29, 2025

5.0

It has been awesome! I used to do a lot of the tracking manually, but I learned about conditional formatting recently. It has been a huge game changer, and I'm glad it's become part of my daily work.

Pros

There's an endless amount of possibilities with Excel. I've taken a number of courses on Excel, and I feel like there's so much to learn still! I enjoy the idea of being able to keep myself organized and making spreadsheets that matter for HR purposes.

Cons

The functionality of it can be very confusing at first; however, you kind of need to play around with it in order to learn and understand some of the functions. It can be overwhelming at first.

### "A Powerful Dominant Product"

September 25, 2025

5.0

Excel is a powerful all-around widely known tool useful for putting data together that is best represented by columns or rows. It has a lot of hidden features, such as mathematical functions and can quickly make graphs after data is highlighted. Similar products lack usability or lack the powerful features.

Pros

It is easy to use, setting up simple tables for various types of spreadsheets. It has powerful hidden functions that put it high above competitive products such as Google Sheets.

Cons

There are certain more basic items that are not supported, and this hurts usability. For instance, filling cells with negative numbers is difficult as excel tries to automatically think you are going to select another cell for a function.

### "Core spreadsheet tool for financial modeling."

December 3, 2025

5.0

Excel let the company do deep cash-flow tracking for clients, plan budgets, and perform what-if scenarios, providing a trusted way to test recommendations before taking those into client meetings.

Pros

Microsoft Excel remained indispensable; flexible formulae and pivot tables allowed her team to model scenarios, track their clients’ portfolios, and present clear financial summaries.

Cons

Complex workbooks go fragile, version confusion and formula mistakes still occur; in particular, if numerous advisors touch the same spreadsheets under time pressure.

Pros

Microsoft Excel is extremely powerful and versatile. It helps in organizing, analyzing, and visualizing data efficiently. Features like formulas, pivot tables, charts, and automation save a lot of time. It is suitable for both beginners and advanced users, and it integrates well with other Microsoft tools.

### "A Legend Among Software"

July 11, 2025

5.0

I have been using spreadsheets since Lotus 1-2-3. Microsoft Excel is a legend in the business software realm and is an excellent tool for crunching numbers.

Pros

Microsoft Excel is a great tool with many features for creating spreadsheets. I have been a user for years and have also taught Excel to many students. I would consider it a piece of software that everyone should know how to use.

Cons

Microsoft Excel has many features and the average user will only use a fraction of those features. The nice thing is if your Excel skills grow, there are features that you can learn to expand your spreadsheet functionality.

### "Strong Data Organization Tool"

June 6, 2025

5.0

It is a great product for data organization, I use it regularly and it is a standard in most industries. I do wish it was a bit easier to collaborate on documents, though.

Pros

The ability to work through large data sets and organize data for analysis is the biggest advantage of Excel. This coupled with the ability to make tables and charts of information sharing has made for each day-to-day organization of financial metrics.

Cons

There is a bit of a learning curve when it comes to Excel. Having new team members, or ones that may not be very tech-savvy, sometimes makes it hard to share excel files and have collaboration.

Pros

Excel has excellent and all encompassing capabilities when it comes to creating tables, lists, and analyzing numbers. Creating functions such as "if, than" functions allows users to get answers on specific data points.

### "Excel my go to Spreadsheet."

March 24, 2025

5.0

I have been using MS Excel since about 1989. I have tried other programs that claim to do the same thing, but they always fall short.

Pros

The ability to tailor it to my needs and I can do complex calculations using formulas. I can use multiple tabs to separate data but still pull data into my calculations and simplify the output for other team members to read.

Cons

With very large data sets it can get bogged down and may require a more powerful computer to quickly run your calculations.

Alternatives considered

[Apache OpenOffice](https://www.capterra.com/p/160717/Apache-OpenOffice/)[Google Sheets](https://www.capterra.com/p/169718/Google-Sheets/)

Reason for choosing Microsoft Excel

I have been using Excel for over 36 years, I compare all other programs to excel for usability and functionality. So, it may be that I have a strong bias towards excel, but it is what it is. Excel does what I need and can be made to do much more.

### "Powerful and Versatile, but Heavy for Large Files"

April 1, 2026

5.0

Pros

Microsoft Excel is powerful for data analysis, reporting, and complex calculations. Templates make setup easy, navigation is familiar, and it integrates smoothly with other Microsoft tools.

Cons

Large files can slow down, especially with heavy formulas or macros. Some features feel hidden for new users, and mobile compatibility is limited compared to the desktop version.

Overall, Excel is an essential tool for managing and analyzing data. Despite the learning curve and occasional crashes, it’s extremely powerful and reliable for both work and personal use.

Pros

I really like how versatile Excel is. It makes organizing, analyzing, and visualizing data easy, and the formulas and functions save so much time for calculations.

Cons

The interface can be confusing at first, and some advanced features take time to learn. It can also crash occasionally when working with very large files.

### "Dark mode in browser."

June 26, 2025

4.0

I have used Excel at multiple companies and for personal use as well. I am constantly finding new functions and tricks to using it more efficiently. It is pretty easy to use base functions, and nice that there is so much more to learn when you need it.

Pros

It does what I want it to do. It is fairly intuitive to use and I don't find myself having a lot of trouble understanding how to do things.

Cons

It might be a small complaint, but I like to use dark mode whenever possible and the in browser version does not have dark mode. I had to do a lot of searching to find out that it isn't an option, which is odd considering that Words in browser version does offer dark mode.

### "Very Nice HR tool"

March 29, 2026

5.0

Pros

It’s honestly so nice and this is how I do a lot of the tracking for our employees. I was able to build a sheet to track so many different things and macros have saved my life!

Cons

I don’t have much to complain about! The only thing that I get frustrated with is trying to figure out functions but I can seem to figure things out eventually because of chat as well.
