The steps from getting data loaded, to model design, to building pages, to publishing can be daunting if you don't have the education. Pros It has a ton of features, plenty of customization and overall it's pretty user friendly. It's one of those programs that once you understand it gets to be easy to get into new projects. Cons It's a product that you have to stay on top of. They update and change options/features ultra frequently. April 2, 2026 4.0 Overall, the experience has been positive, especially with customer conversion. In a teams call, we were able to interactvely answer questions about safety in their fleet and review risk hotspots. Pros I liked that it allowed our team to visualize the detailed vehicle telemetry and driver evaluator notes on an arcgis map. That was an aha moment for many of our clients, and they realized they wanted us to be their road safety experts. Cons The pricing of the top tier (allowing the reports to be publically accessed without a user login) was very cost prohibitive. We would have adopted Power BI fully much sooner if that pricing tier wasnt so high. Cons Unintuitive user interface could use some improvements with a very steep learning curve, and technical issues may lead to some frustration in user experience. Some of its visualization options--like stacked charts--are especially useful for visualizing survey data. Its slicers and filters are also an easy way set up templates--which is especially useful for generating reports across different teams or clients. Cons While it is primarily designed as an internal business intelligence tool, I wish that Power BI made it easier to share dashboards with users outside of your organization domain. Pros This is a powerful tool with a steep learning curve. Works well with Excel and amazing at pulling data from multiple sources. Also scales well Cons This has a steep learning curve and not really for the non-technical user. Sharing reports requires paid licenses which can become expensive depending on your use. Pros My company recently started using Power BI to manage the reports we use. Overall it has a friendly, easy to use and view interface. It makes pulling up and exporting reports quick and easy. I also love that everything can now be accessed from my mobile device as well. Cons I have yet to encounter any real cons when using Microsoft Power BI. Pros PBI is one of the best tools for Business Intelligence, given its ease of use, its cost (free, excluding PBI service), and its learning curve, which makes it very suitable for someone with no prior technical experience to use and navigate easily. Has a good and easy-to-understand UI and supports a lot of data input methods, practically every source possible, and the PBI service allows for automating a lot of reports as well. Cons The customizability of the charts isn't as rich as in Excel or Tableau, and you need to understand how to model the data if you're dealing with multiple datasets and build relationships between them accordingly. It took a while to understand how to get my data into the program and how to change the way things looked. It would be helpful to have better training materials or tutorials.
