### "PowerBI Helped My Team Report More Effectively. "

December 5, 2022

5.0

I was able to join training for administrators and depoliticized key dashboards, developed with MS consultants. I learned how to access data more effectively.

Pros

PowerBI Helped My Team Report More Effectively. We were able to quickly report out on the status of projects and save time with out having to update slide decks we previously leveraged for reporting.

Cons

Some API’s with 3rd party tools weren’t easy to connect and data was sometimes lost in an upload.

### "Using Business Intelligence to Its Full Potential"

February 6, 2023

5.0

Overall, Microsoft PowerBI is a well-known business intelligence application that is extensively utilised by businesses of all kinds. Its robust data visualisation features, data connection choices, and capacity to find insights using AI and machine learning make it a useful tool for organisations looking to extract more value from their data. However, for certain users, the steep learning curve, restricted data preparation capabilities, and convoluted licencing approach may be disadvantages. Furthermore, the restricted third-party connection may be inconvenient for enterprises that employ a range of tools and systems. Regardless of these restrictions, PowerBI is a highly rated programme that is extensively used and trusted by enterprises seeking a comprehensive business intelligence solution.

Pros

PowerBI enables users to connect to a wide range of data sources and generate visually beautiful visuals that bring data to life and make it easier to comprehend. The programme is also extremely customisable, allowing customers to design dashboards and reports that are tailored to their individual requirements. PowerBI's mobile capability and connection with Microsoft products like as Excel make it an excellent alternative for enterprises that require on-the-go data access and interaction. Furthermore, PowerBI's AI and machine learning features enable users to quickly uncover insights and trends in their data, making it a useful tool for businesses of all sizes.

Cons

PowerBI has a steep learning curve, making it difficult for new users to rapidly become acquainted with the product. For some users, particularly those new to business intelligence and data analysis, this might be a barrier to entrance. Because PowerBI lacks a powerful data preparation tool, users may find it difficult to clean, process, and prepare their data for analysis. This might be a disadvantage for those that require more complex data preparation operations.

### "Power BI Helps You Tell the Story of Your Data"

October 7, 2021

5.0

I love Power BI. The time and energy I've invested in learning it have been well worth it.

Pros

Once you get your data in, within just a few moments of looking around or following a tutorial, you can see how easy it is to shape, slice, and show your data in a huge variety of ways. It takes seconds to just try out a visualization and see if it works for you. It takes just a few seconds more to slot in all the data fields you want in that visualization. Don't like something? Drag it back out or click an X, no big deal! Your confidence will grow the more you spend time in the platform, and soon you'll be arranging informative, visually-pleasing dashboards that tell the story of your data.

Cons

I would prefer that individuals not directly involved in Power BI didn't have to have a Pro license just to view/do what I'd consider to be still Basic tier things. And at first, figuring out where/how to get the data into Power BI can be a learning curve. Lastly, it's not a true upload of data into Power BI as if I move, rename, or delete the source file that is still on my computer, Power BI Desktop can't pull up the report that I'd previously created from it.

### "Great tool for Data Analysis and Dashboards"

November 11, 2022

4.0

My overall experience is great, using it to compile, perform ETL, prepare reports and create Dashboards is simply powerful.

Pros

This is a great tool that integrates perfectly with Microsoft Excel (they are from the same family) it really makes life easy. Another great feature is the possibility to connect with a wide variety of sources such as Google Analytics, Facebook, SQL, data files, cloud files, and the list goes on. Free to use and very affordable price. Finally their visualization features are also impressive.

Cons

Like any other tool, we found a high amount of the time required to train and master it, when you try to go beyond create reports, you would need to learn about additional tools like Gateways and Report Server. In addition, their language DAX is not the easiest language to work with, but nothing some training and research can't solve.

### "Microsoft Power BI has changed the way we report - and it's been great!"

January 29, 2022

5.0

We have begun to use this for all business reporting - from the Executive team all the way to the daily front-line workers. It has replaced outdated Excel files and labor intensive reporting methods of the past. It has become invaluable as a daily tool for the entire team and saves an extensive amount of hours from redundant report generation.

Pros

It is so easy to use once you understand the premise of it. We have super users that create functional dashboards so that anyone can go in and get real-time updates without having to rewrite queries. We use this for our daily sales reporting and it lets you drill down and really understand the numbers.

Cons

It was a little intimidating to use at the start as there is so much functionality. Once you get the hang of it, it makes perfect sense. Just take your time to learn and focus on one aspect at a time and it will all make perfect sense.

### "the simple review of microsoft Power BI"

September 13, 2021

5.0

Microsoft Power BI appears to sit marginally in the center of the street as an information accumulation and perception apparatus. It has the look and feel of an old instrument that ought to be dominated at this point, yet its yield doesn't appear to coordinate with that. Our group needed to continually fix mistakes and bugs, which isn't the thing you are searching for from an apparatus coming from Microsoft. On the opposite side, it isn't as easy to use or pretty as an instrument like Domo. It fairly lies in the center of both usefulness and client experience.

Pros

I have utilized \[Microsoft\] Power BI Desktop with the Power BI Service on the cloud as a part of IT answers for organizations. The fundamental utilization of \[Microsoft\] Power BI is to make reports and offer them on the web for installing in sites and applications. The further developed employments of \[Microsoft\] Power BI, as examination, for instance, are less needed by organizations.

Cons

Microsoft's help is standard, and commonly the troubles that emerge when utilizing Power BI compare to overseeing Azure. As to utilization of Power BI to do reports and investigation, the help of Microsoft is normal; however, the Power BI Users Community is dynamic and habitually distributes manuals and instructional exercises on YouTube, with which essentially all questions in regards to the fundamental and moderate utilization of the apparatus can be settled.

### "One stop solution for creating dashboards with visualisation."

December 31, 2022

5.0

It has been an amazing experience using Microsoft Power BI. I used to prepare dashboards with Microsoft excel. However, Microsoft Power BI saves your time and can easily load large data files, and gives insightful and accurate analytics.

Pros

Microsoft Power BI enables us to create insightful dashboards of large data. It helps to manage the data such as KPI’s and enables to forecast the future needs. With the amazing visualisation with just a click it gives team insights and highlights the areas of opportunities.

Cons

Microsoft Power BI requires basic training as someone who is using it for the first time can’t utilise it well and may find it boring, so a video demo for all the fraud should be available so that the beginner can take the advantage of this tool without any training.

Reason for choosing Microsoft Power BI

Perché avevamo una convenzione ed una integrazione aziendale con il partner che ci ha permesso di risultare subito operativi, sperimentare quasi a costo zero e poter apprezzare in poco tempo con reale utilizzo

### "A pretty reporting tool for some (!) Microsoft Products, but pretty much useless outside of the Microsoft Landscape"

March 18, 2017

2.0

In light of the hype around this "Tableau destroyer" in recent months, I want to highlight some fundamental flaws in data connectivity and reports maintenance of Power BI, which the Product Team so far has turned down as "not in scope". In practice, though, this renders Power BI pretty useless for getting dara from any 3rd party products, in the cloud in particular. This review reflects Power BI as of mid March 2017. I have gathered my knowledge from testing, community interaction and a dozen tickets with Power BI Pro Support. The focus lies on getting data via Web Services, much aligned with Microsoft’s «Cloud First» Strategy. 1) Power BI Online is in the cloud, but does not allow for HTTP calls. Power BI Desktop allows for HTTP calls, but only with static authentication parameters. First of all, a distinction needs to be made between Power BI Online and Power BI Desktop. While Power BI Online is the "master" that ultimately allows you to share and publish your reports, user experience in design is diminished by HTML limitations (you may know from Word or Excel Online) and more importantly, data connectivity (Get Data) is limited to SQL Servers on Azure and about 20 to 30 plugins from 3rd party solutions at present. Take note that on Power BI Online, you cannot select or manage your Gateways, either. This brings the attention to the Power BI Desktop client. Updated every one to two months, the Desktop client brings data connectors necessary to connect to a larger number of data sources. With the Web connector, HTTP calls been configured, although with just static headers and parameters and Basic and Windows authentication only. Importantly, though, Power BI Desktop includes Microsoft Power Query, which you may know from Excel 2016 already. With M Scripts, you can script and customise in many ways and most interestingly, convert it into table form quickly. This is where Power Query shines. However, Power Query does not seem to call on methods for nonces and timestamps required in token based authentication (OAuth for example). (Should this be incorrect, please please let me know. I have been browsing the fora and nagging Support too long already.) What’s really amusing here is that Microsoft Azure uses OAuth 2.0 themselves. So, you cannot run any reporting on Microsoft’s Azure AD or Resource Manager database for example, a notorious blackbox. Back to Powershell. (Power BI does not accept Powershell feeds.) In short, while Power BI Online does not allow to get any data out of the web (except for those 20 to 30 plugins, mostly Microsoft Products), Power BI Desktop allows for Web calls, but only with static parameters and thus, basically with your user credentials. That’s a big limitation in Data Connectivity. 2) With Power BI Online being the master, the HTTP calls cannot be scheduled or refreshed in the cloud. Now that you have configured your HTTP call (with risky user credentials), you want to publish your report and have it refreshed on a scheduled basis, say every day. Tough luck. While you can publish your Report to Power BI Online and subsequently a broader audience, it’s a static image of your Desktop data. You cannot schedule a data refresh in Power BI Online (because there is no Web feature anyway) and you cannot even refresh the data manually as this requires republishing the Report anew. You risk your management looking at outdated data whenever you forgot to republish your report and sneak the new URL into your dashboards and iframes. 3) The On-Premises Data Gateway is pretty useless for Web Services. Yes, there is the On-Premises Data Gateway. Yes, you can configure Web Services in the gateway, although it’s pretty ironic to route web calls via on-premises infrastructure. But did you ever try it? That is, you cannot specify any HTTP headers fort he calls at all, lest writing a Power Query script. And thus, we are back at authentication via Basic and Windows only and writing REST scripts in the data source for every single HTTP call because with no Headers and Body, all parameters need to be coded in the URI. Will you do that? At the end of the day, Power BI is Microsoft's long overdue acknowledgement that Excel and some Dynamics Reports do not cut it for Reporting purposes. Indeed, for reporting on SQL Server, Dynamics 365 (if you want to afford it), and Excel and Access databases stored in your OneDrive, Microsoft Power BI does a neat job. However, as soon as you want to integrate with 3rd party systems or via web services in particular, Power BI presents so many limitations in authentication, Header and Body configuration, scripting, and scheduling that you need to configure an entire SQL Server environment (on Azure or On-Premises via feature poor Gateway) and write a SQL CRL interface or buy Azure Data Factory to get that data in. For some pretty reports, do you really want to buy and customise all that BI infrastructure on Azure? My advice to Microsoft: Work on Data Connectivity, especially in Power BI Online, rather than more visuals for those limited data sources. Your Microsoft clients will consider Power BI a given for the utter lack of reporting in Office 365, Azure, or Dynamics 365 (yes, pushing it there). My advice to Users: If the connectors are not listed, look somewhere else. (And make sure it’s your use case that is listed. Power BI announced an Azure AD connector, but rather than reporting on Users, Groups, or Enterprise Apps, you can only see on a nice map where the last logins happened.) Is it a Tableau destroyer? No. It’s a long overdue acknowledgement for necessary reporting with the potential of being a solid Business Intelligence solution ONCE focus comes to lie more on data.

Pros

pretty visuals Power Query On-premises Data Gateway responsible Pro Support

Cons

lack of data sources pretty useless for 3rd Party Web Sources

### "I do not know of another tool that does this job so well"

October 27, 2023

5.0

I use it daily for my for tracking everything that can be measured in a delivery process, weekly for planning and monthly for business reporting. It is my everything data tool. I have been involved in exploring other options but it feels like Power BI stands alone in this field.

Pros

For a tool to be this powerful and complete at this price level really does make it almost impossible to beat. If you have any experience with the Microsoft Power Query platform such as in Excel then Power BI is a natural next step for upping your BI and reporting game. The integration with the Microsoft Office system is seamless and it makes querying external data sources a doddle.

Cons

It can feel a bit clunky and slow if you do not have a high powered client - but the deployed dashboards take this issue away from everything except development. The only other issue I have encountered is in deploying this to a non-Microsoft environment but the tools are available to make it work, it just adds an overhead that you need to be aware of when evaluating the tool. Even with this overhead we have found Power BI to still be preferable to other options native to our non-Microsoft infrastructure and that is really impressive!

### "A really useful tool for us in our quest for the best analysis to find the best solutions."

March 4, 2022

5.0

When you use Microsoft Power BI, you can automate most periodic reports and reduce the amount of time it takes to prepare those reports. As a result, we have been able to rely on it at all times and use it for a variety of different analysis procedures and duties. It's a great aid in our search for the most accurate solutions.

Pros

Because of its multiple options and tools for analyzing and organizing data, Microsoft Power BI is software that empowers businesses. Business teams may use it to produce all aspects of business intelligence projects, from the initial concept to the final representation. The platform is user-friendly and can import and export data from a wide range of other apps, making it ideal for people of all skill levels. Data exploration, discovery, and visualization are made easier for non-technical managers with Microsoft Power BI, which allows them to access reports and dashboards without any training. To acquire the best outcomes, everyone involved can work together more closely because the data is saved on the cloud. All Microsoft Office programs, including Excel, can be used to build an interactive data dashboard. Microsoft Power BI may be used to turn an Excel spreadsheet into a database, and PowerPoint can be used to display, store, and share the data.

Cons

Power BI requires extensive training for all members of the team, but if you have the appropriate skills, it is a superb tool for extracting the most accurate data.

### "Microsoft Power BI from a SharePoint Dev"

November 23, 2023

The steepest slope to climb was formula syntax. It was a lot of testing in excel and trying to convert to Power BI. Luckily the forums are helpful, and most formulas are already available to copy and paste from the forums too.

Pros

I enjoyed the natural availability of Microsoft Power BI within SharePoint lists. It made quick dashboards and quick visuals easy, without having to navigate between different programs, I could just do it all in the same browser window.

Cons

The licensing and sharing was confusing and frustrating to begin with, but I guess any product has to make money somehow. We can't get everything for free.

### "Very easy to create interactive dashboards."

July 16, 2021

5.0

I have been using power BI for one year and in general I think is the best option in the everyday work, I manage companies with medium complex data and other programs are not available to manage it, I use Power BI to validate data, make comparisons among quarters and show the result to internal stakeholders.

Pros

It is intuitive, the tables and relations are easy and you can create many tables using functions like joins or appending one table with another. Also you can create interactive dashboards, the perfect tool to show graphs, tables and results for quarterly meetings or any other.

Cons

Is not easy to use code, you can use it but is much better use the tools that you have per default. You can not manage strong quantity of data(more than 3 tables with more than 1 million of rows each one), if you want to manage many relations, formulas and measures, it is not the best option.

### "Power BI has allowed me to consolidate all of the analytics used around my Company"

November 23, 2022

5.0

This tool will be quite beneficial if you want to create high-quality dashboards and reports with insightful calculations. Additionally, it includes certain useful features that make creating dashboards simple and tidy. Sharing the dashboard and dataset with additional people immediately is beneficial. It may obtain data from a variety of sources and also produce data on its own in accordance with project needs.

Pros

How simple it can be while still allowing for more intricate functionality. Power Bi makes it simple to drag and drop fields and images around the pages to create stunning reports that function exactly how you want them to. However, you may utilize DAX, as well as Python or R, to build sophisticated formulas that give you the desired outcome if you need to create measurements that demand additional complexity in the design.

Cons

The software Power BI desktop uses a significant amount of RAM on your computer. There is a potential that the system could freeze if you open a large report. In order to work efficiently on large reports, your computer must have at least 16 GB of RAM.
