I've also had to link up data sources and create dashboards from scratch at my current company, and it required hours of online tutorials and patience on my part to finally get it done. Pros The final results of what PowerBI can do for your team/business are incredible. Empowering each team with their own interactive dashboards with data that's specific to their decision-making is absolute gold in business value. Cons If you already have a seasoned PowerBI expert on your team, then you'll be positioned to start seeing the benefits a lot faster. Pros Microsoft Power BI is the go-to tool in the data analysis industry when taking a step up from Microsoft Excel. It also requires a learning curve to understand the language of the platform and how it interacts with data sources. The user interface includes wizard to support with the configuration of data sources, building of dashboard gauges, and has familiar tools for granting access to reports built in the platform. The native Microsoft “feel” of Power BI, familiarity with the layout, and guidance tools make the platform intuitive to work with. There is heaps of support for the platform from online sources like guy in a cube, and Microsoft’s own learn environment. This includes routes to certification. Cons Power BI is great when analysing data sets and presenting information in digestible formats eg dashboards for management, insights for operational teams etc. It doesn’t have the power of true analysis tools like IBM SPSS, but the use of those types of tools require advanced analytical understanding and mathematical comprehension to make use of. The most frustrating part of Power BI is that seemingly simple things (like ordering a series in your preferred order) is less intuitive than one may prefer. Often data sets have to be supplemented with additional data to present incineration in the way it is desired, and this can lead to work in Power BI taking longer than you may expect initially. I highly recommend that any employer (which I’m sure applies to at least 98% of them) implement this program for running reports. It can be customized to fit any data requirements. We utilize different dashboards tailored to various departments, with different permission levels and specific needs. The possibilities are endless in terms of what you can do with your data and how it can be presented when generating reports. It’s truly an amazing tool for any enterprise. Pros What I like most about Microsoft Power BI is the endless possibilities it offers. My employer utilizes it effectively to pull and gather internal information. With just a few steps, I’m able to generate spreadsheets containing the specific data I need to efficiently complete my day-to-day tasks. Cons Due to the vast amount of information that Microsoft Power BI can be tailored to handle, the system can sometimes take longer than usual to process data. For example, if I need to pull a report for 15 different entities, each containing a large volume of information, I often have to run smaller reports for each entity and then compile them together, rather than generating one full report at once. Spread sheets are good, but more options should be addedd so that it is easier to use more power bi than spread sheets. Pros Power BI is an easy way to sumarize information, specially from excel files into more good liking graphs. Graphs are easily filter and deploy in a faster way than excel. So, it is a good complement to the spreadsheet file. Cons I would like to have better options built in Power bi to automate report generation. Some of the information I need to get is loaded into Power bi files, but there is no an easy way to autome the graph generation, so I need to manually load each graph I want to include in my reports, I think its needed a way to always get same graph for a report based on previous selected items on the filters or a way to enhance report generation. I know that it is technically easy to look up for that information but in a large organization not all people have access to the same power bi files, so I need to manually screen throuhg and take snaps. Pros It has a ton of features, plenty of customization and overall it's pretty user friendly. It's one of those programs that once you understand it gets to be easy to get into new projects. Cons It's a product that you have to stay on top of. They update and change options/features ultra frequently.
