It was almost as easy to use as Excel, fit right into our Microsoft stack, and we already have licenses with our Office 365 org. Cons Since PowerBI is the new tool around, they are releases features so quickly that it's hard to keep up and understand if the documentation you are looking for is still relevant. Pros We were looking at two main options and were able to purchase licences for our entire office for the cost of one license with another BI tool. Having knowledge of Excel, it made it much easier to adopt and when I ran into trouble there was great help in the Power BI online community. Cons The only thing I wish was easier was to set your fiscal calendar/start date for the year rather than having to create your own custom date table. So much connectivity to just about anything one could need or imagine when constructing a beautiful dashboard! It's been fun playing around with the different charts and assemblies and trying to guess how my customers will utilize the data. I am sure interest from the users will increase immensely over the next several months, once they see how other departments are using their new dashboards. Pros Power BI is fairly easy to configure and with built-in data source connectivity, allows us to analyze just about any data from any source. Limitless possibilities for presenting data in an easy to analyze format. Cons Two separate versions are required for full featured functionality - desktop and webservice. This makes it tough to remember which one is needed for different extracts and functions. Could make them more similar. Need to break myself from wanting to set up everything like a pivot table! So many features forces a larger than normal learning curve to fully get to know all options. I like that you can publish reports and have automated refreshes for those who just need access to the data and have limited PowerBI knowledge. Pros I enjoy that you can connect different datasets without having to manually format in excel. The graphics are easy to create and customize. I publish reports that allow others to use data without having to each download reports for information. Cons Some find it too complicated to use and are intimidated by the format. In the very beginning, I had to watch some tutorials to know where some of the tools are, but after that, it is pretty easy to use. Pros It is so much better than creating a dashboard in Excel. So many more possibilities and you can use very large data sets. It will not slow down the program unless your computer is slow. Cons Sometimes you need to play around with different graphs and data you can use in those visuals. It gets a little bit frustrating sometimes, but if you're patient and diligent, it works great. Power BI easily connects and pulls data from multiple data sources. It is constantly being updated with new features. It's extremely easy to build reports using Power BI. There's a large community of users and resources that makes it easy to learn about BI and get help when needed. One other thing is that it's a truly affordable solution compared to other visualization tools. Cons Power BI does a great job of integrating with other Microsoft products.
