It is easy to use for front end users and can be embedded and shared quite easily across the company. You do not need a lot of prior knowledge to figure out how to use it. It is additionally one of the cheapest options out there but adding on features can get costly. Cons Power BI does not do a great job integrating with non-Microsoft tools, it is built by Microsoft and for Microsoft users. It also requires a fairly strong database to get reliable results. Pros In my opinion it is an excellent tool to make reports. It is quite intituitive and accurate when making the graphics. Similarly, it facilitates the connection to obtain data from different sources, which is a real advantage. Cons What I like the least is that when granting permission to users external to the organization it is usually a bit complicated. It is far more simple and efficient for me to model data in powerbi than with excel. Cons When working in the linked spreadsheets, it is essential to not fundamentally alter them to "break'' the data in powerbi. The dashboards are very customisable and allow you to pull in information from other tools via an API, and it gives live data updates. Cons There's a lot to learn, and it's something that requires substantial time to get right. The most immediate use case is to provide executive leadership access to data in a simple way and single platform. Pros Relatively easy to begin using and connecting disparate data sources together. Intuitive to load in data from .csv, .txt, and other sources. Using the desktop tool, users can load large files that can't be opened using access or excel. I have only begun scratching the surface of the Power BI tool so there is so much more the tool can do than I am currently utilizing it for. The ability to provide dashboards to various users provides access to data without giving access to raw data. Really helpful in building executive summaries or easily digestable reports and summaries. Data visualizations are easy to to implement as well. There are many support resources available to users, including step-by-step instructions, blogs, user communities, etc. Cons No issues to speak of.
