The natural language reporting makes it incredibly easy for a non-technical person to get quick answers to data-related questions. The ease of use make it so that nearly all levels in your organization can get up and running and make informed decisions without having to be a professional report builder. Cons While the ease of use for Power BI makes it so that nearly everyone can use it, it tends to not be as robust as other BI tools such as Tableau. Pros This is the easiest to use platform for making complicated reports. It has made it super easy for me to make my reports. I also recommend it to someone who is unfamiliar with and does not use similar software. Power BI is faster than the other apps in terms of the time it takes to go from having no knowledge to creating a fairly usable dashboard. It can also be a good introduction to business intelligence software in general, as it can help to simplify processes and see the big picture. Pros Platform with a plethora of data source connectors that is extremely strong. It's extremely user-friendly. Capabilities for data visualization that are second to none. Pros I usually create report for scratch and taking days, now with Power BI I can simply create report and dashboard in less than a day, excellent layout as well. Very impressed with this program and am going to be using it more as it fits all my needs. Pros This suite is quite impressive. It combines the very best of reporting software/dashboard solutions into one very powerful suite. You can make charts, interactive workflows, and do all your reporting in one powerful program. The UI looks like any other suite, but the pivot-table-looking options which allow you to slice/filter the data is such a nice change of pace. You can quickly add/remove any feature/filter you want without having to make any code modifications. This is a very handy tool if you need to provide weekly/monthly reports for any reason, simply update the data and refresh the report and that's it! And don't forget that this program is just going tog et better and better as time goes on! Cons The only drawback to his fantastic suite is that it takes a bit to get the hang of using it. There are so many features and things you can do it can be a bit overwhelming. Otherwise, the only drawback is that it wasn't out sooner! Once you have set up the templates its a live system and can be interrogated really well with good drill down features. Pros Been a Microsoft product it easily integrates with the rest of our systems. It is simple to link data sources into and displays them in a sensible way. The visuals range is great and has plugins for the bits you need to tweak. Exporting is simply completed whether you publish to web or export to PDF. Cons Designing the templates isnt the easiest. Take some time to set up and arrange the various visuals. The software is also fairly memory heavy so make sure you have a good machine to run it. My favorite thing about Power BI is that it can import data through custom made connectors from our marketing platforms such as Facebook Ads and Google AdWords and visualize it for our clients. If you know what you're doing when building a dashboard you can make it really easy for your users to have multiple useful visualizations for the data that is important to them. Power bi also has a lot of online community support, so as long as you can understand what is going on with your data you should be able to find the resources to make good useable dashboards. Cons There is a learning curve to using power bi. Anyone can get started and start to show basic forms of data. User interface is sort of familiar as it follows the Microsoft way. Author version is free so you can play with it. Cons It's a complex tool to use and will rapidly go beyond your regular Excel-user. I would recommend to exhaust options in Excel (a tool that most of your staff would know by now) and even to step into Power Pivots or so (which is just an add-on to Excel but will allow you to mine huge data sources). By the way, remember that you will need someone knowledgeable on Data handling within your organization. Cons It is sometimes difficult to make complex visualizations or perform calculations using raw data. Time series forecasting is limited. However, the development team is constantly updating and improving powerBI, so I expect this to improve in the future.
