We keep finding new problems/challenges that it can solve. Even using it with ScreenCloud for some digital signage style applications. Pros Microsoft Power BI is an extremely versatile dashboard and reporting tool that is very simple to use! Cons There is at least one use case with a live-loading spreadsheet with graphs in Excel that we have been unable to replicate with Power BI - still working on a solution. Review Source JI Jack I. We ended up spending months back and forward with Microsoft when suddenly, based of their recommendation of deleting our data ingest and recreating, we lost everything. We couldn't retrieve our previous data ingest and constantly hit errors. Pros Unfortunately, not much. The only real positive element would be teams and general 365 integration. However the setup of these data tables can confuse new users if they did not attend a power BI training or are not familiar with the tools within power BI. What's nice about power BI too is that it can be integrated into other Microsoft programs so it becomes an all in one package. Pros I like to have power BI can take reports and transform it into a beautiful data table for the user end. It's a powerful tool that allows for information to be analyzed by users so that data-driven decisions can be made. Cons Because of its complexity, it is highly recommended you go through training in order to understand how to build reports within power BI. The user interface to create the reports can be quite confusing without the training so it is highly recommended to do so. Thankfully there are different training options from basic to advanced trainings. Waiting for the most recent data to appear can be annoying, especially if dealing with larger datasets or slower refresh rates. Learning it was very simple given some basic prior knowledge but more advanced knowledge is required to access the full extent of the application. Pros I love power query and the many options which are available for report customization. I really like how intuitive it all was for me especially merging complex data sets. The DAX code allows complex functions when processing data to divine advanced insights. Cons My least favourite thing about power bi is definitely the formatting options. In terms of making things the same size and auto aligning correctly it can sometimes be quite a hassle. Microsoft does a great job with providing professional tools for business. Pros Power BI offers great dashboards that help better visualize and filter your data. It is a great upgrade if you are used to taking Excel exports and creating pivot tables each time you want to manipulate data. Cons Power BI can be a bit hard to learn when first starting. We did a couple of training courses which helped, but ideally you need to get a good use case with actual data you can spin into a report. I've been using Power BI for over 3 years and am an avid user of it. After demo-ing the product it my organisation, it became the primary software for visualisation replication Google Data Studio. There are very helpful forums and videos everywhere that assist with all tasks but the main aspect that i love is the integration into GA4 and adobe analytics! Pros Incredibly easy to use, has fantastic integrations with a wide range of products and the web portal makes it incredibly easy to access for both staff and clients. Highly recommend Cons The main issue i would say is speed of the desktop app, it's very slow and can cause your laptop to use the majority of CPU to run it.
