StorPool is software for distributed data storage that enables businesses to work with their data reliably and efficiently. StorPool makes a shared storage pool out of standard drives (HDDs/SSDs) placed in standard servers. It is like virtual SAN, aggregating the performance and capacity of all drives into a single pool of storage distributed between all servers. Pros Exceptional performance, Proactive Support, Hybrid-SSD/All-Flash, Commodity Hardware. Cons Some of the areas StroPool needs improvements are vVols, dedupe, compression. A SAN can be extremely resilient, but to get enough IOPS, you need to spend some £250,000. We didn’t want to spend that much money on a box that could take 1PB from day one. SANs involve a lot of CAPEX. It’s cost-prohibitive for us. We needed a model where we could scale on a pay-as-you grow basis. StorPool has helped us provide a better service to our customers. As our demands grew, and our customers’ expectations increased, our existing storage solution simply couldn’t cope. Now we’re confident that StorPool will grow with us, and that together we’ll be able to rise to any storage challenge we face. Coreix’s customers now benefit from increased uptime and availability and flash-performance, delivered by features such as high availability and live migration and SSD/NVMe support. Anyone who needs these benefits should have a look at them. Pros The performance of hundreds of thousands of IOPS and throughput of tens of GB/s. Some other factors such as cost-efficiency, implementation, and support also helped StorPool stand out in the decision-making process. Cons Support for VMware is with iSCSI at this point. This is fine, but we're waiting for the full VMware integration they are working on. So have a proper look at them, as they are much more capable than other solutions in this domain. Pros StorPool is some 50% faster than the all-flash array we now have. StorPool also has better high redundancy, because of the triple replication that is being used and full end-to-end data integrity functionality. This makes our data even more secure. Cons We are looking to get a deeper integration with VMware and a more advanced GUI in coming releases. Software-defined storage is the new \`storage. StorPool offers superior performance at affordable prices - it is not a \`cheap solution, but it is the prime choice on a value for money basis. Pros Simplicity and compatibility StorPool is intuitive and can be managed with minimal training. StorPool also proved to be very scalable and easy to deploy. Storpool has a great technical support team - quick and professional. In many cases they walk the extra mile to advise us on all aspects of our cloud - from hardware selection to software solutions. As our business grew, the number of servers grew as well. Management and lack of flexibility became a problem. Our initial experiments with building a private cloud were promising, but we needed a shared storage system. In our experience hardware storage solutions are expensive to buy and run, so we started looking into software-defined storage solutions. We now have a high-performance shared storage system for our private cloud, which can scale-out when we need more capacity. The downtime virtually disappeared, which led to increase in customer's satisfaction. Additionally, StorPool's storage solution is intuitive and easy to operate, which is a significant time saver. Cons Currently no GUI, however StorPool is working on it. Also, at the moment the support is only in English.
