It can run everything from criminal background checks to educational and employment checks as well. Pros The system is very user friendly and is a one stop shop for all related background checks including MVR and Social Security checks. Cons Nothing, it offers everything necessary to run a variety of checks to be compliant with the various state regulations we have to follow. May 5, 2026 5.0 I use Checkr for background screening of new employees. Our needs are fairly basic criminal and background clearance for employment. Pros The ease of use is the best part of Checkr. They provide a good overview of the background checking options so you can determine what you need. Reports are good with the results nicely summarized. Cons There are some features I have never tried because they charge. I would like a chance to try some of the other search options without incurring a fee, to determine usefulness. I believe it's the fastest and most user-friendly system and it comes at an affordable price. Checkr ensures all documentation is handled appropriately and provides background data quickly, supporting a smooth onboarding process regardless of integration. Pros Checkr seamlessly integrates with our HCM system, providing a quick, easy, and efficient onboarding process. Cons Prior to this integration, we were using Checkr as a standalone background check system and occasionally the checks would cost more than anticipated. It is user friendly and can be tailored to meet your specific needs. Pros One simplified solution for managing all of our pre-employment and post-accident screening needs. It works seamlessly with our existing Applicant Tracking System (ATS) to automate data entry. Cons Not a fully integrated solution. The platform is user-friendly, and the automation has helped streamline our background check process significantly. Turnaround times are generally quick, and the integration with our systems has made the workflow much more efficient. While there are occasional delays or hiccups, the support team is responsive, and the benefits far outweigh the challenges. Pros My favorite part about Checkr is that the platform seamlessly integrates with our Paylocity system, so it feels as though it is a one-stop-shop making our pre-employment checks easy. The background results also return to us very quickly which helps minimize delays. Cons One thing I like least about Checkr is the lack of real-time updates or clearer communication when delays happen in the background check process. It can create confusion for both candidates and the HR team, especially when timelines are tight and onboarding schedules are impacted. They also have a great support system that you can ask questions, and they respond very quickly. One of my favorite systems to work with. Pros They are so easy to use/ user friendly, and their customer support rocks! There is no real learning curve, in my opinion. I also love the feature they have where a candidate can provide an explanation to a crime or issue on their background check. Cons Nothing so far! I've been using Checkr for a year now and do not regret changing from a previous provider! Also, this integrates well with Paylocity. The process went from over a week with our prior provider, to sometimes hours with Checkr. Candidates have shared a positive experience with the platform, and results come back quickly. The system integrates with our HRIS, allowing us easy access to requesting the background check directly from Recruiting. The cost is comparable to other platforms, and the customer service is quick. Cons Checkr has so many positive qualities - the only thing that I wish was different would be to have a dedicated account manager with a phone number or email to contact. Their customer service is through scheduled office hours or through chat. Both are useful, but sometimes it would be easier to send a quick email or call a dedicated resource. I was worried about getting a lot of emails, but it was easy to adjust my settings to only receive the ones I needed. They have succeeded in driving me away as a customer. Pros They used to do a good job, not so much anymore. Cons Absolutely horrible customer service. They have closed their support phone number and the chat / email support is slow and unhelpful. They cannot address issues and suggested solution are not complete of possible in their product. Owner Real Estate Used the software for: Less than 6 months ### "Terrible candidate experience, unfathomable delays, zero customer support," August 31, 2024 1.0 This is another example of a software company that believes they can take all humans out of a process that requires human judgement and intervention. Not all court systems can or will be plugged into digital databases and they require investigators (or researchers as Checkr calls them) to show up in person to courthouses to do records pulls at public access terminals. This coupled with their almost nonexistent customer service would make anyone lose their minds. I don't know where all these 4 and 5 star reviews are coming from but they seem like paid, incentivized, or bot generated reviews. Pros Easy to implement. It appears on the surface to plug in with a lot of Google and other services. Cons 1\. Terrible candidate experience. It took weeks to complete simple criminal history check on a few candidates due to undisclosed "court delays." It should not take weeks to verify someone with no criminal history is clean. Every other provider that we have used or background check that was run on me took a few days at most. 2. Abysmal customer service: If you are lucky enough to get someone on the phone (which is almost impossible) it is obviously an overseas call center and not an account manager which is useless. There are tons of competitors, look elsewhere for your business BGC needs. Review Source JCG Joy Cristy G. costumer experience agent Telecommunications Used the software for: 6-12 months ### "Advantage and disadvantage of Checkr " March 17, 2022 5.0 Their is no problem at all, if I'm being honest, I wish that the Checkr will go directly on the candidate page like so we do not need to search them manually because sometimes, it can eat all our time and our AHT will be affected and we don't want that. However, using Checkr on check the BGC on our drivers is its very punctual and easy to use and utilize. Pros The features that is most impactful, specially to us, is the background check. Using this we are able to see their BGC result and assess what action we will take based on that. Also, we do not need to send the details of the result of their BGC because Checkr have an automated message that comes through the driver's email once their BGC result is ready or if they have an issue regarding to that. Plus, Checkr is so easy and convenient to use, whether you are first timer. We can definitely process easily with the help of this software. Cons The cons that I can see on using Checkr is that when we search the drivers manually using their name, email, or even UUID, it sometimes occupy alot of our time. It takes 2-3 minutes before its shows up. Furthermore, since we are assisting drivers and we usually need to see the candidate page and not the report page. It will be more less hassle if we click the driver's BGC from their application that route us to candidate page instead of report page. Review Source AH Angela H. Definitely easier to use than other companies we've worked with in the past and the system keeps track of when re-checks are needed, which is super helpful and much more clear to us to keep us on track! Billing is straightforward and easy to change if needed. We're on autopay so it's easy peasy each month! Pros We switched from a different company last year and started using Checkr. It works SO much easier with our current organization software (Church Community Builder). From setting up an account, to adding users, to requesting background checks and tracking in the CCB system, it's super easy. Background checks are usually super quick to get results from. And the cost is a little cheaper than the company we used before! Cons We don't necessarily know all of the features that are available to us. Cost breakdown wasn't easy to find on the account website. Sometimes it's hard to find answers on the help section for what we're looking for. We just usually need general background checks for our volunteers and also employees and that's really it. I see there's more features in Checkr that we need to probably research and make sure we're utilizing things to our fullest so we will do that! For the basic needs we have, Checkr has been easy to use and the customer service is quick to respond and help when we have questions. Review Source JT Judy T. Cons It didn't have what we needed but they fixed it for us once we reached out to them. So really, no cons here! Reason for choosing Checkr It integrated with our payroll platform much easier, the cost and the location of the labs for our national company. It had more states and labs close to our employees. This makes implementation possible even in low- or no-code organizations. Cons Some of the reports and background check results can be difficult to interpret.
