HCP Recruiter Hospital & Health Care Used the software for: 1-2 years ### "Fast background checks all done online" January 27, 2022 5.0 I love using Checkr, is easy, has multiple reports you can run, makes onboarding easier, looks and sounds legit and they keep you informed of the progress. Pros Checkr is easy to use, you can send the invite to candidates quickly and effortlessly via email but also send a direct link if needed. The whole process is easy for the user and in most cases, you get results quickly - sometimes in minutes. If the candidate is scheduling an appointment to get a TB test or Physical exam you can check where they scheduled the appointment. It's also possible to resend invited that expired. Search is easy and you can easily take a look if a report is complete. The background check process has clearly mentioned steps and you can track the process live. Checker is giving you an estimate of the duration and they are great at informing users via email whenever they have important updates. Cons When sending invites they often end up in the Spam/Junk folder so we need to give a heads up to candidates to check there as well. If sending more than one invite the link in the email will always bring the candidate on the same page (asking to fill in name, surname, contact phone, and email... they get confused when they have to do it over and over clicking on each link in every email they get. I feel Checkr is super busy, with a lot of users, and support is overwhelmed and therefore slow to respond, sometimes takes days/weeks. Review Source JO Johna O. CEO Education Management Used the software for: Less than 6 months ### "Buyer Beware!" July 18, 2023 1.0 Overall, very negative experience with Checkr. Pros They make it very easy to get started and for job applicants to approve their background check. Cons Checkr doesn't make it clear that the prices listed on its pricing guide are just starting price (its in a tiny star at the bottom of the page). Nor does it tell you this when you order a background check or even after while they are processing it. You are just slapped with additional fees weeks later when they issue your monthly statement. By then, you've already requested additional background checks and the whole thing is an expensive fiasco. In my case, I ordered a background check for $54, only to be charged an additional $95 for that check because of additional court fees! To add insult to injury, they have NO PHONE number to address customer questions. Their sales team sure calls you about a million times, but when you want to call them with a question, you are out of luck. You can email customer service, but they don't respond. They only responded after I emailed twice and looped the sales team. And then their response was canned and they didn't resolve my concern (that their pricing is deceptive). They just sent me a pricing pdf (which is different from what you see in your account when you are ordering your checks) that has small print saying that that there may be "additional fees." I own a small business and we need dozens of background checks per year, so we can't work with an unethical, unreachable business. They have lost my business and you should save yourself the headache by avoiding them altogether! Review Source Marielle Francine S. We’ve been through 3 different customer success managers, all seem to be disappearing whenever you’d follow up on something they said they would do. I reached out to senior level leaders multiple times and was promised help, but I have never felt as helpless with any other vendor I’ve worked with in the past as I am with Checkr. I went through the correct channels but nothing gets resolved. RUN AWAY AND GO WITH ANOTHER BACKGROUND CHECK SERVICE PROVIDER. Pros for me the most impactful on this software is it's very reliable in terms of knowing the important details of the applicant. It's very impactful on both parties for the security of both applicants and the company. I am really impress on the developers. Cons There are times when the background check takes too long. for me that's the least I can review for this software and it's part of a process and I am still like it no matter what. It took a couple of months to finally get the change made even though customer service said it was changed. Pros The software works great and depending on the response of the people we are requesting the check on, it usually pretty quick. I just need easy background checks. Once, a check was taking an unusual amount of time. Support explained that they were having trouble contacting an employer. So far everything has been pretty easy and I don't have to think about the process. That's what I want! Thanks! Pros Using Checkr has been really easy. It integrates with our hiring management software so we don't have to login to extra apps and re-enter data. Customer service has been responsive and helpful. Cons So far I have not had a negative experience. I make a few clicks, all set. That's all I want! I don't want to have to think about the background check process. Reason for choosing Checkr Checkr was integrated with Workable and so we used it. So, integrations are important. We don't want to have to login into more apps or have to re-enter data. PhD Candidate Research Used the software for: Less than 6 months ### "High reviews from companies, awful reviews from candidates" October 5, 2023 1.0 I've never had such a terrible onboarding experience before for a background check. I've done background checks and developed vetting before but this company has the worst experience as a candidate. They frequently pause the check to "request information" but the portal does not have a clear explanation of what they need. Questions are responded to with autoreplies, or responses that ignore the question entirely. Example: I emailed them to ask why my employment references were not complete (they had been completed last week). They ignored the question and told me they needed to verify a totally different thing and had been waiting for me to take action. There was no indicator in the portal or anywhere else that they expected action to be taken, so if I hadn't contacted them I would have presumably missed my start date with my company. The ramifications both for my new employer's business and my own ability to make rent would have been huge, and it was barely averted. Employers: look elsewhere, check the reviews on TP or other sites where you'll see candidates regularly mentioning horror stories with this site. I'm shocked they're still in business Pros Checkr is meant to automate the process of background checks by having a useful and easy-to-access portal for users to upload their documents and check the progress of their background check. Cons Despite the portal looking great, the major flaw with this company is their lack of communication, terrible customer service and reliance on auto-replies which suggests a company that doesn't care about candidates. I get the results I need in the time frame that I need them, and that's good enough for me right now. Pros I am able to integrate Checkr with our current HRIS and start the process right from an applicants profile. I usually have a quick turnaround and easy to read reports. Cons There are so many different packages to choose from, sometimes it's complicated to know exactly what I'm ordering unless I log in directly to Checkr and then sort through the different packages. However, there are just a few bugs that need to be worked out. Pros I love how quickly reports are turned around. Easy to use for both our candidates and internally. Cons I'm an admin and work in the corporate office. I need access to see all reports in the system. However, I also run background checks for all corporate employees. Because I'm an Admin, it's an either all or nothing notification on if a BG/Drug Screen is complete. I don't want to be notified of all BGs in our system (of over 5000 EEs, but need to be notified of internal BG/Drug screen completions.) I currently have to calendar a reminder to check if reports are done which is an administrative frustration. Reason for choosing Checkr Easy use, price, customizations of packages. I have never had to contact customer service because I can always check status in the portal, which is rarely needed due to speed of results. We can start a background check right from a person's profile and a request is sent to the person who has asked to volunteer and they complete it without us having to be responsible for the safety of any of their personal information. Checkr lets us know when the background check is complete (usually within 24 hours) and we are able to print the report for our files and it automatically updates their status to approved, approved with caution, or red flags it because of a concern brought up by the background check. Any time I've needed to contact customer support, they have been friendly and helpful. Pros It is easy to set up, integrate, and use. On top of that, this software is easy to use for our volunteers and employees. We can set annual or periodic reminders as well as get detailed reports on outcomes. Pros Checkr provides a list of properly documented APIs which can be easily integrated with your system for performing background checks. The results shared by the APIs can then be used for making a decision on the candidate based on the background checks Cons Not much wrong about this software. It is quick and easy to use. I like that it provides an estimate of when the background check will be completed, allows you to cancel the invitation, and provides tags to filter the information for easy budget tracking. Cons The thing I wish they would change most is remove lines that contain cancelled invitations. It is a waste of space. I would also like to see the tags as a column on the Candidates page. Cons Based off of the features that we actually use vs. what we do not use, there really aren't any con's that we could think of since we only utilize part of the software.
