Pros Media Library makes it so easy for our connections to access all resources in one simple app or in the embedded app library on the website. Giving records are much easier to manage. Communications with donors are a breeze with the email and newsletter functions - everything in one place instead of multiple locations for many tasks. Cons Except for the giving module (which is great), reporting/analytics are awkward, and the modules need to cross-communicate in a more user-friendly experience (UX could be improved). An accessible API to produce task automation connected to the user base would be incredible; this is only available with the higher-end packages. We had tried implementing a competing platform (which wound up being a constant source of frustration) for about a year prior to moving to Subsplash and the transition was like night and day. We're a small church (around 250) and so we don't use all the included features (regular check-ins for kids classes, etc.), but we've been utilizing media (no livestream at this time), apps, chat groups, the giving platform, and are moving toward using more of the church management tools as well. The majority of our congregation is using the mobile app regularly and we've gotten a lot of positive feedback. The few complaints/issues that have come up have been handled efficiently by the Subsplash support team. From my position, I don't know the specifics of what our church has budgeted for Subsplash, but I've not heard a single complaint from our leadership either; everyone seems to think the platform is well worth it. Pros Subsplash has been easy to jump into and get started with. I'm on the media and app management side of things, and I appreciate the ease with which I can upload and organize media within the mobile/TV/web apps. I've also had to address a couple bugs and other tech support issues, and the Subsplash support team knows their stuff and has been extremely helpful. Cons Right now there's not much I can think of to put here. There are a few features I'd like to see implemented in chat groups and elsewhere (the ability to post videos and photo albums in groups, for example), but I know they're working on a long list of feature requests. There is much that frustrated me as features would crash or I could not customize to my satisfaction. The customer service is incredibly difficult to reach, which has also caused major issues. The host media very well, and provide great features for categorizing what we store on their platform. Pros If what you want is an inexpensive web platform that allows you to host and stream media, as well as build aesthetically pleasing websites and apps, Subsplash is a great option. It is easy to stream and categorize media, and the push notification feature is easy to use. Cons Customization is a major struggle for Subsplash. Their integrations with third-party software lack the features necessary to make them worthwhile, and the user/designer seems to be limited to features that the platform has built itself. Would have given 5 stars, but the support still lacks in my opinion. Pros I like the fact that Subsplash gives us an actual church app. It's really not that difficult to use the Subsplash platform. Yes, there is a learning curve, but that is with all things. We were able to go from three different church management platforms to one, and the value was about the same. So cost wise, you get a great value with Subsplash. Cons Their AI tech support still needs work, and it's not really that easy to get to a live person. I don't like having to make an appointment and wait to get an issue resolved. All giving platforms promise increased giving, I don't really see where giving has increased. Their staff has consistently been responsive, knowledgeable, and genuinely interested in helping us accomplish our goals. When we began developing The Bill Pearce Podcast about a year ago, the Subsplash support team showed us how we could use our existing Nightsounds account to host the podcast and distribute it by RSS to the major podcast platforms. That solution saved us both time and money while allowing us to significantly expand our digital reach. We are now working with Subsplash to create a new dedicated app for The Bill Pearce Podcast. After several years of working together, I can say that Nightsounds has enjoyed a very positive relationship with Subsplash and its people. They have been excellent partners as our digital ministry has grown, and I would strongly recommend Subsplash to other ministries looking to expand their reach. January 19, 2019 5.0 Pros Once you get used to the dashboard settings, it is surprising how creative you can get with the design of the app, without sacrificing a professional look. We love the many available features such as developing a custom Bible reading plan, accessing our Google Calendar of events, and the ability to quickly and easily give online. We've taken advantage of the Media server, and upload all our messages, complete with PowerPoint Slides, Sermon Notes and Bible Study curriculum. It is a significant tool for our church family to not only stay in touch with what's happening at the church, but to assist them in their discipleship journey with reading and study. I also give Subsplash top marks for their technical support. I receive very quick and helpful replies, always delivered with a friendly attitude. Cons The software seems to be fairly robust, but it is a bit slow in starting up, and there is a slight delay when making updates. There is a bit of a learning curve in understanding the Dashboard. I feel the team has done a great job in general at making it as accessible as possible, but there are still a couple of things that I would not consider intuitive (such as working with the menu system, lists, and media series). December 12, 2018 5.0 Pros We've used Subsplash for our church's app for years now. Here's the deal, while other custom app builders may be appealing to not lock you into a box on design, no one will give you the support staff or custom attention like these guys. They DO offer many templates and such for mobile apps, so the box is large, but it is still a template based system (box). But if you don't want to custom code your own app, you are going to land in a box somewhere. This is the best I've seen yet. On top of that, they have giving platforms, podcast platforms, etc... and if you need something they don't have, just ask! They are open to feedback and have (numerous times) created solutions that didn't exist before because we asked for them. Great people. Great products. Cons If I have to find a negative here, I'd say... the mobile app templates are totally usable and such, but aren't the prettiest or most custom in the world. Admittedly this is probably on us for not spending more time on ours. :-P I've seen some great apps on the platform and a large portion of ours not being stellar is on us. Cons User info can’t be linked to any external database (i.e. giving, account info, user notes, etc), so you have to run everything through them (which currently is not robust enough of a ChMS). Our goal is to move away from it soon but the experience as a whole was not bad. The reason I started looking to move was a $40 a month jump in our price from one month to the next. Pros We really enjoyed our time with Subsplash. We signed for a two year contract and ended up staying with them longer. The app building and website building portion of their product were intuitive and easy to use. The amount of customization we could have on our own custom branded app was great. I found it far better than most other companies that were offering the same thing. Cons One of the main things I did not like about Subsplash was their tendency to charge for every small add on. I know that there are many companies that do that and we are technically paying more now than we were with Subsplash. With Subsplash though there was no trial periods or no option to drop a service if you found you weren't using it. If you signed up for it you were stuck with it whether or not it fit your ministry. But we improved our website more in 2 hours with some WordPress changes than we accomplished in almost 3 frustrating weeks of working with Subsplash. And since Subsplash never went live, there was no improvement in our communication with our community. Pros Subsplash brings multiple functions like giving, website and messaging under one platform and provides the ability to live stream content. Cons In my opinion, the online demo is misleading to the point of dishonest. Subsplash does no design work; they merely allow you to use their platform to do the work yourself. I did not find the software intuitive and believe it requires a steep learning curve. Some of the same actions (e.g. uploading graphics) have to be repeated multiple times and while we were advertised the ability to live stream, we weren't told ahead of our purchase that when that ability was provided, it would also cost $125 more each month. Support was very slow in responding and their excuse was "we've gotten an influx of new customers right now." Hint: Don't accept a customer's money until you're ready to provide what they're paying for. When we quickly determined the platform wasn't for us, Subsplash refunded only a portion of our total payment and retained $639 of our money, although we had the service for less than one month and were never able to go "live" with the software, not even for one minute. There are other church app development companies out there, but none offer as clean a product as Subsplash. Also, we know other churches who have spent thousands of dollars, and much more time, to develop their own app, ultimately to be back at square one and wishing they had used Subsplash. Pros Subsplash has developed one of the most user-friendly and affordable app interfaces for churches. We've been using it since 2010, and have always been impressed. The best feature is how easy it is to organize media content, based on series. It allows our attenders to go back and watch any teaching series on their phone. However, it also allows web embeds, which makes it easy to integrate into your website as well. Cons I wish it was a little more all-inclusive in terms of app platform availability. For example, depending what apps you want, you have to pay for it. We have the ios app and Google play app. They have other apps (Apple TV, Roku, etc), but we haven't bit the bullet to access those. Pros The great customer service and the ease at which we can update and add items. There are training videos to help you through the process, and a responsive team that answers all our questions. Because of this app and how well it works our members have easy access to podcasts, documents, giving, important links and updates we need to communicate. Cons We wish they had an event registration/purchase feature for this product. We would like to have all online money payments to be under one umbrella and having an event registration would accomplish that goal. Furthermore, the team at Subsplash is engaged with our organization at just the right level to be able to most effectively come along side us and add value to what we're doing. I am so thankful for all that Subsplash has done for us. I'm actually tempted to give them more money than what they're asking for! Pros The software is VERY intuitive.
