### "Beautiful and Transparent Firm and Project Management Tool"

March 21, 2022

5.0

We've been able to solve our issue of having tons of data in different places, unable to reconcile them - assignments, pipeline/backlog, time tracking, budgets, etc. We tried to build something ourselves with the tools we had until we found Monograph, who does it perfectly, and understands what it takes to do architectural projects. The staff is incredible, and the expanded focus they've placed on building a community of practice operations nerds is SO valuable. From the product to the people to the community, they're incredible.

Pros

Monograph is so beautifully designed that my team of architects enjoy looking at an analyzing data now. We love how past, current, and future fee and staffing projections are married together to give us a clear picture of our firm's profitability and staff and project needs. Our firm owners can see high level firm health info, our project managers can see how they're performing on their projects, and our staff can see exactly what they should be working and reporting on. I also appreciate that it's a newer platform that's constantly putting out new updates, features, and functionality.

Cons

We understand that it takes time to build a great product and some things are going to be missing or slightly off as the platform improves. There are some minor annoyances with reporting functions, exporting features, and how resources are assigned work, but we get around it for now. Accurately tracking overhead time and PTO could use major improvement. I'd love to see different user types for guests and/or independent contractors - it's too high of a price point to invite part time 1099 contract staff to use it, but would be very convenient if they could track time directly against our projects on Monograph. I'd also like to see more app integrations.

Alternatives considered

Reason for choosing Monograph

Past experience w/ Deltek is clunky. I like supporting startups and love what Monograph is doing overall as a company. I'd like to support them in building the best platform for architectural practice ops management.

### "A good contender"

July 24, 2025

4.0

When it comes to specifically manage projects, i really appreciate Monograph's capabilities as it let me track multiple projects at once and let me know what projects, or project phases, need my attention.

Pros

Probably its integration with Quickbooks to do my accounting. I also must mention the powerful Gantt chart feature.

Cons

The fact that I need to subscribe to other tools to make it complete. If Monograph could offer an all-in-one suite (from estimate to billing), i would higly recommend it.

### "Fundamental function is broken and customer service is understaffed"

February 27, 2026

1.0

This software is not fully cooked. They have told us they have a small team. It is clearly too small to fix bugs that affect the basic function or to provide meaningful technical support in an emergency. They need to pull this software from sale until it functions.

Pros

I loved the idea of the software but it fails to deliver on the most basic functionality. I wish it did what the promotional material says it does.

Cons

Adding previously billed amounts does not function from project that were started before we migrated to the software. We were told it was a glitch but there was no urgency to fix it. We cannot prepare invoices and we are a small firm that does not have the reserves to wait until they get around to fixing this basic function.

Switched from

[Harvest](https://www.capterra.com/p/75598/Harvest/)

We wanted more integration of project management, time tracking, and invoicing. But invoicing is fundamentally broken so we are switching back with having lost a ton of our time and energy.

### "After a little over a year..."

August 29, 2024

4.0

Overall, it is functional, easy to use, but is a work in progress. Not sure what we would switch to though as those changes in software are not painless! Interested in seeing what this product is like in a few years.

Pros

Interface is very intuitive, time tracking is almost always correct. Integration with QBO is important to us, as QBO has been our rock with regard to bookkeeping/accounting. Monograph is continuing to be developed and enhanced.

Cons

Support at first was great when we first signed up and was very responsive, and issues were generally settled immediately. Quite a bit slower and more elusive now, and there is no community forum or easy way we have found to interact with others users to pick their brains and gain from their experience in resolving questions or issues. Invoicing requires the review of multiple tabs simultaneously, and we have suggested a way to combine much (or all) of this information on the financial tab, but nothing has been done yet. Have found just a couple of errors, one leaving off consultant work and previously invoiced amounts - noted a couple of months ago, and understand they are still working on this.

Reason for choosing Monograph

Not involved in purchase - it was primarily purchased for its project management capabilities.

### "Monograph is the bestest in the westest! :)"

April 4, 2024

5.0

Fantastic!!!! I I think that this the way that it was built makes it cross-industry applicable. I could see myself in another industry and recommending that they implement this service.

Pros

User friendliness. A++ We have many age ranges, and this interface is so well designed that even the older crowd is able to jump onboard easily.

Cons

The insurance companies with the payroll services. Monograph is great, but those other companies that are tied in with the additional services are quite lacking in their turnaround times and communication.

Reason for choosing Monograph

BQE Core cost was astronomical. One look at their interface scared our principal architect. We was never going to take the time to learn to navigate it. And onboarding new employees was going to be so time consuming and complicated. Monograph just made things so easy, and are open to feedback on the product to make adjustments as needed.

Switched from

[Microsoft Access](https://www.capterra.com/p/233275/Microsoft-Access/)

Access has been in the process of being phased out by Microsoft for years, as it is a Visual Basic platform that requires having a retained coder who can adjust and update your customized interface so that it remains functional. It cost the same yearly to get Monograph as it did to pay a coder, but we could do everything in-house.

### "Day in a life of small practice"

February 14, 2022

4.0

A very positive experience

Pros

Very accessible and easy to use. The minimal learning curve meant we could have staff up to speed in a week of implementation.

Cons

The cost and the payment options are perhaps the most limiting aspects. As a software geared towards smaller firms, I would have expected a variety of payment options - especially annual subscriptions. Otherwise the price is on the higher side of similar on the market

### "close but not yet"

July 10, 2024

4.0

Pros

partitioning of hours in a project based on fee and who is working on the project.

Cons

I would like the option to request a revision to vacation time taken because sometimes you take vacation and end up working some of that time. Also would like to include a planned pause in a future phase where it won't populate hours in staff's schedule. For instance if we are in design development and know we will need to pause for contractor pricing, we know that people won't be working on it, but it will still be in the design development phase.

### "A Young Architect's Appreciation for Monograph"

July 10, 2024

5.0

Pros

It's clearly a product made by and for Architects. When well-used, it helps young designers like myself better understand fees and project timelines in relation to fees.

Cons

Not much. I honestly couldn't think of many ways to improve it from a user experience but I think administrators at the firm have had more challenges with the interface.

### "A super user-friendly, functional, time and project management option for Architects"

June 23, 2021

5.0

We're honestly just getting started, but the company seems very approachable and open to building in features as required. I like the flexibility and nimbleness that they're offering. It's an EASY to understand interface as well.. and that's just the BEST.

Pros

I was really looking for a time tracking and project management tool for our Architects and PM's to be able to actively see how their hours are tracking against contract budgets. Every month, we were using exported xls spreadsheets to review time already spent - and every month, I'd notice that we'd be coming up short on projects. Their "money gantt" feature allows all employees to see how they're tracking on project's profitability in real-time. It's a great tool for both employees and employers to keep everyone on track.

Cons

It's young... meaning that some of the features are still being implemented and developed. However, that's not necessarily a bad thing. New features are coming fast. Integration of customer feedback seems to happen quickly.

[Deltek Vision](https://www.capterra.com/p/1404/Deltek-Vision/)[Unanet ERP AE](https://www.capterra.com/p/130633/Clearview-InFocus/)

We've been using Deltek for many years - but never fully realized the PM or tracking potential. The interface was just too complicated for the PM's to actively use. We decided to switch to Unanet and were probably 75% into the product set up when it became obvious that it was nothing more than a CLONE of Deltek. They say its code architecture is completely rebuilt from scratch - but the UI is essentially a stripped-down copy of Deltek. Clearly, the developers came out of Deltek and that's all they know. Monograph is completely different. While it's lacking some of the integrated accounting functionality, it's user interface is so easy to use that we feel that it's actually going to be used to everyone's advantage

### "Gleason Review"

April 5, 2024

3.0

It has been good, I am still learning what it can or can't do.

Pros

The features for building out project fee, and schedule. How that translates into a Gantt chart, and how you can allocate fee / time by % to staff members.

Cons

Need's some further iteration's to refine the staffing chart. We have to keep rebalancing hours for every person, for every phase, for every project. Should be able to do in one click.

Monograph is the most comprehensive a cost effective project management tool that we've found. It's infancies are tolerable unlike most of the more well known PM tools we've tried.

Pros

Monograph does a good job managing project scheduling and how it relates for deliverables and billing.

Cons

Monograph falls short in the day to day tasks, actual invoicing and real life management of a project. Sharing timelines with a client is basic and more information could be provide.

Reason for choosing Monograph

Monograph checked the most boxes and was affordable/

April 5, 2024

2.0

We paid through the year and hope you all continue to make improvements. If major improvements are not made by the end of the year, we will do anything we can to ditch the software.

Pros

The time tracking for projects and overall cost evaluation is fantastic.

Cons

The cumbersome use is terrible. Lack of being able to create and share tasks easily is also not good. Not being able to collaborate with other Monograph users for tasks is very frustrating. Invoicing is constantly glitching and the partnership with Stripe is Hell and has personally cost us close to $10,000 in lost revenue.

### "Easy interface, good support, reporting needs work."

March 12, 2024

5.0

I am satisfied with Monograph, our team has adopted it well within a couple of months. In general terms it does what it should. However I do think data insights and reporting could be improved a lot, and a mobile app would be great to have.

Pros

Monograph is very user friendly, easy to implement and navigate. The Gantt view of projects is pretty useful.

Cons

Given Monograph has so much information about our firms operation, I think reporting is very basic. Many insights could be obtained that would make the tool a lot more valuable! There is no mobile app for time tracking yet.

### "Monograph "

February 15, 2022

4.0

It has really improved our ability to manage the business side of our firm

Pros

1\. Very nice graphical interface which makes it easier to use than other products with similar features 2. Monograph as a company is very open and transparent about the improvements they are working on and are always eager to get constructive feedback. 3. The Money-Gantt feature

Cons

The Milestone and Task tracking capabilities do not have project team notifications yet

Reason for choosing Monograph

Monograph stood out because it was graphically pleasing to look at, which is very important when you use it every day and you are in a design profession. Monograph was designed from the ground up by Architects. Monograph provides us with the ability to track our fees against our project progress in REAL TIME

### "Excellent Tool for Small Architecture Businesses!"

April 10, 2024

5.0

Pros

Monograph has been an excellent tool for our small architecture firm as we have gown over the past few years. It helps us track time spent across projects, forecast future fees and workloads, and monitor productivity to make sure everything is on track. I appreciate the clear graphic quality, easy of customizing tasks and project phases, and quick report production. It is also instrumental in our Monday morning all hands meetings, making it easy to go through all the projects and track progress.

Cons

The time sheets themselves work great, but I wish the time tracking function would get updated - it's not nearly as robust or easy to edit after the fact as other similar programs. Specifically, being able to view individual entries after the fact in calendar/time log format would be very helpful. If you miss tracking or forget to stop the timer, it's impossible to edit except in the overall total.

### "Inadequate"

April 19, 2023

2.0

I have found that I track my time so much less regularly with monograph than I had been using with a competitive software. That shows how clunky and unfriendly the interface is.

Pros

That it’s a small start up company is desirable.

Cons

Get an app for crying out loud! The web browser on a phone is dreadful. Time tracking should be an easy process. I liked jumping onto an app on my phone while on a bus home at the end of the day and I just can’t do it with Monograph. I have to be at a desk to use the software and even then it’s clunky and not intuitive.

February 17, 2022

4.0

As an employee at a small architecture firm I find Monograph very useful for our needs. It's easy, clean, and simple to use. It also has all the basic tools one might need to keep a firm running.

Pros

I love how easy it is to fill out my timesheets. Timesheets are well organized in the software and easy to edit. I also like being able to add notes to the hours I put in.

Cons

I think that the time tracker clock could be easier to use. Currently I don't use it at all because it ends up being more of a pain than a benefit. As well as not improving efficiency. I think it would be more useful if it was integrated with the time sheet page. I often jump from project to project in a single day. So being able to start time on a project and pause, then start time on another would be helpful.
