TOPS Pro Reviews
"Probably the Best App for Palletization"
Overall: Palletization software is expensive and there's really only two choices: Cape and Tops. I have always preferred using TOPS and think it is better all around and easier to use.
Pros: I like the appearance much better then CAPE software. I've been using both of these apps for about 30 years and I have always enjoyed TOPS over CAPE. I think that the look and printouts are much better.
Cons: It's a bit clunky and you really need to massage your numbers to make sure you're getting real world results.
"Better than Quickbooks..."
Overall: Tops Pro has been a good transition program for our growing company. We are actually transitioning to TopsOne in the next 30 days, as Tops provides very valuable products for our industry.
Pros: Our management firm previously used Quickbooks for handling the accounting for our associations. The transition to TopsPro (while a bit painful at first) definitely provided us with a much more comprehensive system to manage not only financials, but allowed us the ability to consolidate many different aspects of association management in one place.
Cons: Our management firm utilized a server for our data, as opposed to cloud based storage, and that proved to be not very reliable, constantly being knocked off of the system...
"TOPS Review"
Overall: Over the years it became harder and harder to get customer assistance; however, when I did get a live body they were always very knowledgeable on the product, polite, and helpful.
Pros: What they call Flex data, this enables you to add information and run reports on that information for your properties. Work order entry, emailing unit owners that you received the work orders and reports. Best was the ability to calculate the new maintenance fees, then run 750 invoices in less than 30 minutes, and download an ACH report.
Cons: Too complicated for my staff to understand the accounting features that we had to stop using it. Then when they discontinued the partnership with the website and it became too difficult to upload unit owner accounts receivable into the web.
"It has been updated (to TOPSOne) --- go with TOPSOne!"
Overall: My firm purchased a management firm which had TOPS Pro in place. It was quick to get to know as we had used it 13-14 years ago before putting our current software (VMS/Village Management Software) in place. The functionality and layout of TOPS Pro was nearly identical to the TOPS software we used 13-14 years ago. Thus far, it has been a stable platform for managing 35 accounts/associations. The Support intervention we needed to establish remote access, install it on other PCs, and expand its capacity (as it had been capped at 32 accounts/associations) was a very slow and daunting process as Support is usually not available when you call or email. They get back to you at a later time or day which may or may not work within your schedule to work with them. Once their focus is on your issue and they are speaking to you directly, "fixes" are relatively easy to reach. I believe this software is best suited for single-location operations with no need to mobile access by employees or a very robust portal for owners/Boards to access their information.
Pros: It is an intuitive software once you become accustomed to its commands (ESC key closes many windows) and used to selecting only one account/association to review at a time. Otherwise, it is a workhorse of software.
Cons: It is not web-based (though the newer TOPSOne is). Not being web-based, you are stuck accessing it only on the PCs on which it is installed. It doesn't allow you to quickly bounce between accounts/associations. You have to select one, work within it, select another, etc.
"Expensive but worth it"
Overall: We use this to build loads/pallets/cases
Pros: Very thorough, great visuals, a lot of options to customize
Cons: It is very expensive, but it's the only software like it out there
