### "Incredible Alternative to Paid Programs"

June 12, 2024

4.0

For the extremely low price of $0.00, this program introduces you to premium graphics features and a wide variety of color optimization. While it is lacking in many practical applications it is THE free alternative. You get what you pay for. And lets face it, its easy on the eyes. :)

Pros

Inkscape is free and open source compared to some programs in that they charge more than they give. Every effect, every tool can be used effectively for 2D vector based graphic design. The trace bitmap tool is essential for rescaling and fixing the resolution of customer's old designs; it does have its limitations, but nothing an hour of time cant fix.

Cons

In terms of printing quality, it comes face to face with adobe and other programs when it comes down to color. I do constantly fight the RGB default and have to ask someone with adobe access to convert my PDF's to CMYK. I see it often used in conjunction with Scribus for this very purpose but Scribus' user interface is jarring and difficult to process. The other biggest issue I have with Inkscape is its inability to process spot colors which are essential in printing white ink on darker media. I would also like to see more implementation in geometric design, with more alignment accessibility and open to more axis' than simply X and Y. I would rather not pay for autodesk to rely on 3D rendering.

### "It's free, which is a bonus"

November 10, 2024

4.0

It's free, which is a bonus, and you can knock up some decent vector graphics with it. Used to use Illustrator, but that was a right pain in the neck with the subscription fees. Inkscape's a bit rough around the edges, but it gets the job done.

Pros

Love that it doesn't cost a penny! Inkscape's a lifesaver for a tight budget.

Cons

Had a bit of a kerfuffle getting used to the interface. It's not as intuitive as some of the other options out there. And it can be a bit slow at times.

### "A free and professional work tool"

April 9, 2024

5.0

Extremely happy with this amazing software. Amazing how it is still distributed for free.

Pros

The thing I appreciate most is the speed of use. In addition to this, the available tools allow you to create very high quality graphic products while maintaining compatibility with any software. In over 10 years of use I have never regretted using it.

Cons

In some projects, file processing can become a little slower, forcing you to split the work across multiple files. In some cases it may happen that the software crashes but a backup copy is always saved before closing the program.

### "Inkscape - Flexible, Easy to use vector editor and graphics design layout tool"

October 17, 2023

4.0

As with any small organization there is a need to balance efficiency with cost. Over the years I have used several of the commercial vector art software packages available. I find that in inkscape I can easily match 90% of the capabilities of the commercial software. When you evaluate the cost of licensing commercial software for each of the staff computers compared to the 10% increase in features you can then determine whether the cost increase is worth it. In our case, as a library, the answer was that the additional features added little to the ability to create the content we need.

Pros

I frequently am handed details on an upcoming event and need to turn out flyers, posters and other media for it in just a short period of time. With Inkscape I can quickly and efficiently bring together existing artwork (e.g. logos), new clipart, and create graphic elements to form a broad range of media with consistent style and content.

Cons

The one area that I would like to see improved most is handling large sections of text. As a vector art tool you can easily modify individual words and letter by warping, distorting, clipping and more. But when it comes to doing a block of text that needs to dynamically wrap around other elements on the page Inkscape is not as intuitive as it might be. This is improving with each new release and I am anxious to see what develops over the next few updates.

Reason for choosing Inkscape

As I mentioned earlier, it became obvious that we could be just as efficient using Inkscape as using InDesign and Illustrator. The conclusion would very well have been different if we were publishing magazines, books or other more complex tasks. With simple flyers, posters and brochures, Inkscape met our needs and drastically reduced our costs.

### "Inkscape: Free and Powerful At Vector Graphics"

September 18, 2023

5.0

In general, Inkscape is a great and solid software that allows editing vector graphics and helps with designing really well. It is a difficult start for beginners, but then it turns into a loyal tool for intermediate and advanced users. Given time, it can prove a very handy and useful tool, and can easily replace some of the paid alternatives, or even serve as a complementary tool for them. I'm overall satisfied with this product.

Pros

The ability of editing things intuitively once the tool is learned well. The options and tools offer a world of possibilities for modifying the vector paths/graphics and there is a lot of control if needed. The software is free-to-use and very capable in general, and can work with raster images and convert them into vectors if needed. Once converted or manually traced, the resulting vectors can be edited and easily modified.Inkscape is in active development and I consider that also a benefit.

Cons

The learning curve can be a bit tough in the beginning, although after getting the hang of it, the program turns into a very intuitive tool. From my knowledge, I haven't found a way to "repeat the last action", that would be a great addition if it is taken into account, as that's an important feature that helps and makes the design process quicker. The interface could be further improved and modernized, although it is not much of a problem as it is.

Inkscape has been my companion for quit some time and its agood replacemnt for CorelDraw and Illustrator for most of my project.

Pros

Community support and availability of tutorials for Inkscape make it the go to application for vector design and the fact that its free and opensource make it the best or student and newbies to getting started. Also support for Windows and GNU Linux make a fine addition.

Cons

Lack of support for most data file format especially proprietary one that are industry standard.

### "Outstanding"

April 5, 2022

5.0

I really like Inkscape, and for everyone looking for a vector design software I will advise this hands down.

Pros

This is by far one of the best designing tools in the market, and even better this happens to be open source. Inkscape offers a set of tools meant to design freely, effortlessly and with a lower learning curve than other alternatives. Drawing or even editing vectors is very nice, and everything works smooth without overcharging any computer resource.

Cons

I wish it has native Ilustrator files support, but there is not. Anyway, you can solve very easy this by changing the Ilustrator files to PDF. Then there is not a big deal about this.

Alternatives considered

Reason for choosing Inkscape

Inkscape can be used to create logos, icons, illustrations, and graphics for print, web, and mobile applications. It can be used to create marketing materials such as brochures, flyers, and advertisements. It can also be used to create technical diagrams for reports, presentations, and manuals.BenefitsThe main benefit of using Inkscape is that it is free and open source, making it accessible to anyone with a computer. It is also very user-friendly and intuitive, allowing even novice users to create professional-looking images. Inkscape also supports multiple file formats, allowing users to export their work in a variety of ways. Finally, Inkscape features a number of tools and features that make it easy to create complex graphics with relative ease.

Pros

1\. Inkscape is free and open-source, so it is available for anyone to use without having to pay for a license. 2. It is easy to use, with an intuitive user interface and comprehensive set of features. 3. It is highly compatible with other vector graphics software, allowing you to easily export and import files from other programs. 4. It has a wide range of features and tools, making it suitable for both experienced and novice users.5. Inkscape is available for Windows, Mac, and Linux platforms, making it accessible to a wide range of users.

Cons

1\. Inkscape is not as powerful as more expensive vector graphics software such as Adobe Illustrator.2. The user interface can be confusing for some users, as there are a lot of options and tools available.3. The software is not as well-supported or updated as other vector graphics software, so users may not get the same level of customer support.

### "Very capable, powerful tool for creating vector images. Cross-platform and open source. "

April 8, 2021

5.0

Since 2004, I have used Inkscape for creating vector graphics. Inkscape can easily handle small reasonably complex drawings. However, when working on large diagrams, comprised of hundreds of objects and many layers, Inkscape would become less responsive and occasionally crash. For creating highly complex diagrams, I still rely on CorelDraw which is far more robust overall. But I use Inkscape for all simpler diagrams and have watched it transform over the years into an increasingly powerful vector graphics program.

Pros

Cross-platform and open source. This has several big advantages: a) No need to worry about proprietary file formats and vendor-lock because it saves files in the open SVG format. Drawings that you create today will still be easily opened and used 10 years from now in either new versions of Inkscape, or in one of many other applications that can also open SVG files. b) No economic barriers to use- our members can easily download and use Inkscape without worrying about license costs. This helps encourage teamwork and sharing responsibility of creating drawings. c) No barriers caused by using different operating systems: Our organization members can use Inkscape on our computers regardless of which operating system. Some members Linux, others use Mac or Windows 10). Inkscape performs flawlessly on all installations. Can import Adobe Illustrator (AI), CorelDraw (CDR), EPS, PDF, VSD files and allow modification and edits.

Cons

The way Inkscape handles docker panels is somewhat confusing. Dockers are sidebar panels that display information about layers and objects in the drawing. Currently, the user must navigate to the software menu, click on OBJECT and then click on "Object" to turn on the Object docker panel. The same slow procedure must be repeated for Layers: navigate to the software menu, click on LAYER, and then click on "Layer" to turn on the Layer docker panel. A more convenient option would be to list all docker panels in the software menu VIEW drop-down list or perhaps somewhere else. In CorelDraw, I used to organize objects in my drawings by placing them in different layers. Inkscape does not seem to be able to do this. This is immensely useful for creating maps as each layer can be turned on or off depending on the type of map you want to create. ie) having a Road Layer, Water Layer, Houses Layer, Vegetation Layer, etc allow me to turn on only the layer I want to display. I can then create separate image files /diagrams for roads, river systems, housing, and vegetation for use in documents or academic articles. Inkscape developers stated several years ago that this feature would be implemented. Perhaps it was implemented, but I have not been able to get Inkscape to work this way When working on very large and complex diagrams with many layers, Inkscape can become quite slow to respond. For this reason, I tend to use CorelDraw for complex large diagrams

Reason for choosing Inkscape

Inkscape is open source and free- our organization members can easily download it and use it thus ensuring that we are all using the same tools.

Switched from

[CorelDRAW](https://www.capterra.com/p/124823/CorelDRAW/)

I switched to Inkscape because it is free and open source and thus all members of our organization can install it and create documents that we can all easily share. We don't need to worry about costly licenses, proprietary formats that cannot be easily opened by each other's software, or other barriers to use. However, I still use CorelDraw for complex diagrams and for the creation of brochures. CorelDraw is stable, and features a strong, mature feature set.

### "The best tool for small business"

May 5, 2020

5.0

Apart from not being the chosen solution for the printing industry, Inkscape works as well as all the other solutions, it opens the files produced by them and exports to their format. Inkscape does not require the purchasing of a license, making it perfect for small businesses. It is easy to work and working with it is just like working with the best software your money can buy.

Pros

Inkscape has all the features the major vector illustration tools provide, with more control over the end result, the file, and is distributed under a GPL license, meaning it is free of charge and free to be modified by knowledgeable developers. It provides ways to implement new features via scripts, and also has a great developers' environment, continuously working on improvements for the tool.

Cons

Other than the fact that the publishing industry does not use it as the standard, there are no downside in using it.

Reason for choosing Inkscape

The choice was based on four factors: 1- How would the operations made with the software be different from the others; 2- How would the results of the software be accepted by the industry; 3- How can we improve our own production pipeline using the product and 4- Cost-benefit. By far, the GPL license which Inkscape is available provides the answer for the last two items. Meaning, it is free to be used and its source code is open, allowing improvements for knowledgeable developers. Although its source code is open, using it to add our own improvements is a huge task. It solves this by providing a scripting system that we can develop our own plugins, in a much easier way than writing extra code for the software itself. This allows for easy improvements in the production pipeline. The possibility to open and export files from the software that are used by the industry solves the second issue. The main operations performed in the other software works without flaws in Inkscape. The only setback was re-learning where to find the tool needed, as well as re-learning the shortcuts to speed the work. This was just a matter of usage within time.

### "Inkscape: Vector Design software for all creators."

June 26, 2022

4.0

Inkscape shouldn't really be compared to other software which specializes in illustrations such as Krita. Inkscape is always first a vector design software and one of the best at that. It requires more technical skills than artistic but both artist and graphic designers and even game designers can make full use of this software.

Pros

It's vector design is my favorite thing. I've tried creating logos as rasterized images in other software but they scale horribly. However, as vectors they are perfect and Inkscape does vectors best. The large amount of tools allows me to truly create anything. I use it for logos but also for specialized lettering and sound effects for comics. And it's a free software!

Cons

As far as UI it's not the best looking and can be confusing. You will definitely need to learn how to use the software to its full capacity.

### "Great for SVG"

May 12, 2020

4.0

Years ago I started using Inkscape seriously, to create things like logos and baners, after a short learning curve, the tool became very useful, and its use was almost daily for a while. However, when I started trying to create derivative works, from resources bought in asset stores, which usually come as AI or EPS, I started having problems. Today I use it in conjunction with the paid tools, because its support for SVG is really great, and some quick tasks are done in an easier way than in other software, such as converting to PNG, which is much less bureaucratic.

Pros

The fact that Inkscape is free software and is great for editing SVG format makes it an indispensable tool.

Cons

The most important thing for commercial use, which makes it impractical to use Inkscape alone is the limited support for .AI and .EPS files, as these are popular formats for distributing content in asset stores.

Alternatives considered

[Adobe Illustrator](https://www.capterra.com/p/227125/Adobe-Illustrator/)

Reason for choosing Inkscape

I have already done a review of Illustrator here, and I can say that for a while I was jumping between Inkscape and Illustrator, sometimes due to compatibility problems with the IA and EPS files and sometimes due to problems with the financial cost of maintenance. I actually found the middle ground using Inkscape for SVG and quick tasks (as it is much smaller), but Illustrator paid for larger professional tasks.

### "InkScape is all Vector"

December 20, 2022

5.0

Inkscape is a fantastic free software and its fundamental center is the making of vector-based designs - it does this particularly well. You can create great SVG illustrations for marking (or some other use, as a matter of fact) yet you should invest energy and examination of the item piece to have the option to receive use it effectively and receive the most in return. On the off chance that you are hoping to deal with raster-based designs, GIMP is a superior choice.

Pros

Inkscape is strong programming to draw delightful drawings, for example, vector pictures. The fundamental benefit is that it is free. Picture control should likewise be possible somewhat. At first, it isn't extremely natural in the event that you are utilized to other application programming projects, for example, AutoCAD, yet there are numerous instructional exercises to acquaint with it.

Cons

Crashes at some point (yet consistently a make a backup document).Less help on 3D Illustrations. Have to be more creative.

### "Best software for logo editing and creation."

September 12, 2021

4.0

This indeed is the best software if you want to start create and editing vector images.

Pros

It is a free open source software thus anyone can download and use it. Using this software is really easy even for starters since it does not have complicated components that one can't understand easily. Unlike other alternative software's, this software can run on different platforms that is Windows, MAC OS and Linux Operating systems. Lastly this software is flexible and versatile that is it can be changed or modified without changing anything.

Cons

Sometimes its processing functionality can be a little slow. Exporting an image does not support various formatting types. Even if it has more paid features on other alternative software's, this software's interface is not user friendly, it needs one learn fully in order to come up with a complete and good vector image of logo. I don't have much negative about this software only my main focus is on speed, starting even this software takes a lot of time.

### "Great free graphic design software"

February 11, 2022

4.0

Inkscape has allowed me to create more detailed vector designs for use in my business at a quicker pace than using the Cricut Design Space software. I would recommend it to all Cricut users and to those just looking for an affordable graphic design software.

Pros

As a free software, this program is great for anyone looking to do graphic design work but especially for beginners. I started using Inkscape as a way to design vector files for use with my Cricut machine. The Cricut Design Space software had a lot of limitations and was very slow for working with text, so I turned to Inkscape for almost all of my project designs. I can then easily save my vector files in .svg format to upload into Cricut Design Space for making my projects.

Cons

Inkscape will occasionally crash and close while I'm using it, so be sure to save often. As a free software, this is a mild annoyance but not a deal breaker.
