Compared to other high-end paid platforms on the market, Inkscape offers a wide variety of design tools that some mid-tier platforms don't even offer. This tool is free for downloading. As a beginner it can be a bit challenging to adapt to it in the beginning, but once you get the hang of things it becomes quite a journey. You will able to create spectacular vector art which you can use for your own projects and other goals. Cons As I have previously stated, it does take some time to get used to it, especially since there are no in-built tutorials so you have to look them up on the web. Pros This is an amazing vector based graphic creation software package. As far as I can tell, this has most of the tools that Illustrator has. AND it's free! Don't worry about how confusing the UI is when you first start using it. There are enough tutorials out there to get you through the steep learning curve. Cons Like stated above, the UI is vastly different than you're used to if you are Illustrator trained. It can be very frustrating with the different terms for tools and where they are located, but look up all the tutorials and you'll be fine. April 19, 2020 5.0 I used Inkscape early in my design career when I couldn't really afford expensive design software and it worked great to get design work out the door. Pros Can't beat free software! But more than that it has a ton of depth and powerful features. You really can create any kind of vector graphics you'd want to with Inkscape. Cons It can be a little hard to learn and the interface isn't quite as polished as some other more popular design software. Pros I think Inkscape has amazing features and it can be used for free. You can create logos, letterheads and some beautiful artwork. Some amazing textures can be added. There are ample of videos which are available which can be used to understand some features Cons The learning curve is high. I have only been doing them for about a year but every time i make a new design it seems they are well liked and they sell. Pros Inkscape is a nice way to create designs. I initially downloaded it to make SVG files for myself to use with my cricut machine. After showing a few people they suggested I make them into SVG designs to sell on Etsy. Cons There is alot to learn on using inkscape and sometimes it's hard to create exactly what you want. I think there needs to be more tutorials but all in all the program is nice. By learning the keyboard shortcuts you will be able to navigate round the menu super fast. Also, this works well with my touch screen which I never thought I would use until now. Pros As a designer one of the best features is to import something which you find inspirational and be able to trace the outline for your first design layer. From there, you have the ability to smooth out better than the original import and create new shapes, colours and angles very quickly. Cons The help menu is not great and I found myself looking in Google for most of my help. However, Inkscape's online help and tutorial site is quite comprehensive and guides you based on your knowledge level. Review Source VR Verified Reviewer Engineering Student Semiconductors Used the software for: 6-12 months ### "Inkscape for Laser Cutting" March 3, 2019 5.0 Been using it to create designs for icons and laser cutting blueprints and images for months and is a great software but if you want to create very precise blueprints Inkscape may not be the best for you as it is mainly a drawing software. Though you should give it a try. The software is compatible with many file formats and you may find tutorials on the web and in the developers website there's a very good guide. Pros Inkscape is a great quality design freeware, great for making illustrations in vector format, easy to use very natural commands and intuitive interface it also has the ability to add software modules to make it able to do extra tasks such as output gcode for CNC machines, for example. To make designs for laser cutting you need to draw the vector or convert and image to vector which is easy and then be sure all objects are converted to paths and finally save as dxf, remember to save in another file. All this is very easy to do. Cons Mayor complaint is the fact that conversion to dxf file format may have errors in may intricate font types and are needed to be corrected manually. It is a great piece of software that helped us immensly when we didn't have enough funding to actually buy a vector design software. I highly recommend Inkscape to everyone starting out with vector design. Pros Inkscape is great. The user interface is solid, the options are all there, it is not hard to use, and to top it all off, it's completely free! I love how easy it was to learn how to work with vectors once I got my hands on Inkscape. Cons I have some issues with the UI, namely with layers and how they are displayed in the side panel, and some shortcuts that are unintuitive, but that is just a minimal issue that does not really impact my view of this software. Pros A good supply of the basic vector building tools with a quick learning curve, makes this a great application to have at the ready. I have been an Illustrator user since 1998 - but still appreciate an alternative to some of the more straight forward tasks. Cons As the developer get more feedback from the user community, this application will expand its capacities and capabilities. It has a lot of different functions that you see in photo shop yet not as advanced so it’s a good point between paint and ps Cons It sometimes is glitchy. There are times when I see extra lines or patches I didn’t create thinking it’s just a glitch I’ve exported it and it shows up. I was looking for a free software to create the covers of my books and vectorize the images for use online. This software has never let me down in this regard. It is very rich in features that are also very easy to handle. It is available in several languages. It is the best software for novices on vectoring software and retouching photos or images. Cons Not enough keyboard shortcuts with this software (which is frustrating to try to do things fast enough).
