Pros I love the automation of data extraction and the built in approval process Lightyear has to offer. It helps me to get my clients data correct, having the correct expenses and payables, and it means I can get multiple levels of approvals before the invoice hits the GL. Cons Sometimes the OCR doesn't work the way I expect, but I know they are constantly improving the software and I'm confident it will be better in future. November 5, 2025 5.0 Lightyear has been a wonderful addition to our accounting routine. Paperless and ease of review, analysing and importing of information into Sage has allowed us to save on at least one worker in our office. In addition, with developments ongoing and the Lightyear team's ambition to add and improve, I can only see us moving more and more processing to the Lightyear platform. Support is always on hand too and response times are prompt. I would have no hesitation in recommending Lightyear to any medium/large business - it is a no brainer! Pros Lightyear has made the handling of paper almost redundant in our office setting. It obviously assists in achieving a Company's sustainability objectives and saves valuable time wasted on managing and shifting paper! Cons It is always painful parting with money but realistically it is reasonable value for money! There is not very much not to like about Lightyear! I look forward to further improvements in the future. Pros I love the speed at witch i can process large volumes of invoices. The statement reconciliation is also very useful. The smart extraction is a game changer for hand-written invoices. The new splitting of merging tool is a great addition. I think Lightyear are constantly looking to improve which is a refreshing change for this type supplier. Cons I find the processing page a little annoying, it jumps around a bit. Rather than work on my actions in the back ground it will jump to an invoice if its completed extracting it. Its not cheap..... The software is very good at saving you time. Say goodbye to tiring amounts of data entry! Those days are gone. You can now focus more on Financial Reporting & Analysis of your business, instead of wasting hours processing invoices manually. My job has turned from 80% of time spent on data entry to less than 15%. I now use this spare time to assist our Senior Accountant with more important tasks, like reporting. This has improved our Finance Team's quality of work significantly and the time saved is well worth the monthly fees you pay to Lightyear. Pros Greatly improves the Accounts Payable & Inventory functions of your business. Significantly reduces the time spent on repetitive tasks like invoice processing and data entry. It allows Accountants to focus more on financial reporting and analysis. The benefit of this can not be understated. For the amount you pay, you will get far greater returns in terms of time saved and output. Try Lightyear! You will not regret it! Cons As with any developing technology; it is in a state of constant improvement. Not all processes are perfect. That being said, the Lightyear Team release regular updates that improve functionality. They are also very open to your feedback, and make updates based on customer feedback. I have only been using Lightyear for 1 year, yet the amount of Improvements has been incredible. The smart extract feature, for example, has improved the functionality of Lightyear ten-fold. A great package that reduces cost of paper and postage that was used on previous system - Cost Effective Pros I have worked around Accounts Payable for more than 30 years and have never worked on a system that is so comprehensively detailed and easy to use - I can't ask for more. Everything at my fingertips. Nice to remove the paper/postage/scanning element. Support for bugs and development at the other end of Phone and resolutions are immediate or put forward for future development. Lightyear would save money re: employment, as saves valuable time and requires less staff. Great tool to educate new staff. Haven't included Procurement package but I guess would integrate with PL. No security issues within the start of 2024 to now. Honest I would recommend. Even a Trial would open your eyes. Cons Obviously the integration of any system can be daunting. But the end result is well worth the Pain.. Cons I can’t sync other details of the supplier that I have created in Lightyear to Xero, such as bank details or contact information. It's been a little up and down with the uptake from our clients as some are of a more traditional mindset and do not want to convert to paperless. Some clients also take a little longer to acclimate to the system then others, but once setup and working, each client on light year improves efficiency by about 20%. More over, the support and continued patience of the team at Light Year, especially Tom, has been astounding. Due to job changes, they've helped train any and all staff as we've seen fit. Have listened to ideas, and implemented workarounds where possible, truly making this a system we can use above other similar products. They also offer that support to our clients who may otherwise be struggling and are always on hand 24/7 to call, video conference or chat online to anyone who needs assistance. Pros The support from the team is fantastic and are always on hand to help and assist. Feedback and suggestions on the system are welcomed and implemented if possible and useful. Invoices no longer need manually entering! Option to automate the process of receiving invoices entirely, doing away with any need to upload - instead just get them emailed directly into Light Year. Cons A few of the options appear to be placed on pages I wouldn't expect, but nothing particularly bad. Cons The system sometimes picks the wrong info but we're reminded that nothing is 100% with computers during process training so it’s still a good idea to double-check things. Our business has increased its offering since using Lightyear and the number of invoices requiring approval has also increased significantly., The system has made this significantly easier and the support has assisted with some tricky invoice mapping from various suppliers. Also having multiple site, separating costs is far easier now than before we have Lightyear to ensure accurate P&L reporting each month. Pros Easy to setup and maintain. Excellent support from staff at all levels of Lightyear. Cons The export into our POS can be a little clunky. This may be from the POS end but it does still provide a level of efficiency with stock management in POS. August 1, 2022 5.0 I really like how user friendly this software is. It helps me be more productive and I understand it enough now that I can easily introduce interns to it. Being able to integrate with different accounting software is a bonus and a real time saver. I also really enjoy going paperless so my work is accurate and there are no lost documents. I would like for Lightyear to work on the lag when integrating but other than that I would definitely recommend this software. Pros I like how user friendly this software is and if I am ever stuck then support is always available. I have been able to save a lot of time and train a few interns with Lightyear. Being able to access old invoices in the online archive is great too. The statement reconciliation process has finally allowed me to go completely paperless which makes my work more accurate. The ability for invoices to be automatically coded, digitally stored and approved through an online platform is truly excellent. The implementation team at Lightyear were fantastic, leaving no stone unturned and a special shout out to \[SENSITIVE CONTENT HIDDEN\] who was instrumental in the process from start to finish. Lightyear provide fantastic support, with investment in comprehensive system training, onboarding and seamless accounts system integration even before you have committed to buy. The transition from our original processes took approximately one day! Lightyear have now fully automated our AP function, embedding improved and auditable controls, and is now a fundamental part of our business processes. Lightyear truly are a business partner in every sense of the word. Pros The functionality of Lightyear is incredible. This solution fully incorporates digitisation of all aspects of the AP function including data extraction from invoices, a full invoice depository, approval workflows via email and app, audit trails, seamless integration with our accounting system, automated supplier statement reconciliation, to name but a few. It can even verify supplier invoice line pricing to agreed pricing product price lists! The system is user intuitive, with the process was so natural that rolling this out across the team was simplicity itself. And pricing is scalable to usage, providing totally affordable Rolls Royce functionality to any organisation. Cons Have found no cons to date! Thee are certain upgrades in the pipeline for approver interface via the app and email which will further enhance the already existing superiority of this product.
