Pros I love the automation of data extraction and the built in approval process Lightyear has to offer. It helps me to get my clients data correct, having the correct expenses and payables, and it means I can get multiple levels of approvals before the invoice hits the GL. Cons Sometimes the OCR doesn't work the way I expect, but I know they are constantly improving the software and I'm confident it will be better in future. November 5, 2025 5.0 Lightyear has been a wonderful addition to our accounting routine. Paperless and ease of review, analysing and importing of information into Sage has allowed us to save on at least one worker in our office. In addition, with developments ongoing and the Lightyear team's ambition to add and improve, I can only see us moving more and more processing to the Lightyear platform. Support is always on hand too and response times are prompt. I would have no hesitation in recommending Lightyear to any medium/large business - it is a no brainer! Pros Lightyear has made the handling of paper almost redundant in our office setting. It obviously assists in achieving a Company's sustainability objectives and saves valuable time wasted on managing and shifting paper! Cons It is always painful parting with money but realistically it is reasonable value for money! There is not very much not to like about Lightyear! I look forward to further improvements in the future. Pros I love the speed at witch i can process large volumes of invoices. The statement reconciliation is also very useful. The smart extraction is a game changer for hand-written invoices. The new splitting of merging tool is a great addition. I think Lightyear are constantly looking to improve which is a refreshing change for this type supplier. Cons I find the processing page a little annoying, it jumps around a bit. Rather than work on my actions in the back ground it will jump to an invoice if its completed extracting it. Its not cheap..... Lightyear will greatly improve your business" May 6, 2025 5.0 Our overall experience with Lightyear has been very positive. The team listen to customer feedback. The software is very good at saving you time. Say goodbye to tiring amounts of data entry! Those days are gone. You can now focus more on Financial Reporting & Analysis of your business, instead of wasting hours processing invoices manually. My job has turned from 80% of time spent on data entry to less than 15%. I now use this spare time to assist our Senior Accountant with more important tasks, like reporting. This has improved our Finance Team's quality of work significantly and the time saved is well worth the monthly fees you pay to Lightyear. Pros Greatly improves the Accounts Payable & Inventory functions of your business. Significantly reduces the time spent on repetitive tasks like invoice processing and data entry. It allows Accountants to focus more on financial reporting and analysis. The benefit of this can not be understated. For the amount you pay, you will get far greater returns in terms of time saved and output. Try Lightyear! You will not regret it! Cons As with any developing technology; it is in a state of constant improvement. Not all processes are perfect. That being said, the Lightyear Team release regular updates that improve functionality. They are also very open to your feedback, and make updates based on customer feedback. I have only been using Lightyear for 1 year, yet the amount of Improvements has been incredible. The smart extract feature, for example, has improved the functionality of Lightyear ten-fold. It has reduced processing time, improved accuracy, and made training new staff much easier. The whole onboarding and adoption process was seamless and gave us confidence across the team. Staff skills and time can be used more productively on more than inputting invoices. Pros Every step of the process has been excellent and the ongoing support has continued to be excellent. The initial contact was responsive and guided through the set up to allow us start processing quickly. The product is logical to follow and easy to view and provides options every step of the way. The data extraction is very accurate and adaptable to different supplier invoices and the mapping team is very quick. This is more accurate than our previous software. To email queries from within Lightyear saves so much time and hassle looking for emails and provides great transparency. From a Finance perspective it is value for money as it saves the Finance team more time than it costs the business. Pros Onboarding was extremely easy and efficient. The platform is user friendly and saves a huge amount of time in our AP process. The approvers find it easy to use, and it also helps with remote working. " November 12, 2021 5.0 AP Automation was long overdue within our organisation. Lightyear ticks the boxes for us in terms of automation and improving our processes, particularly in an international organisation working in multiple timezones. Would thoroughly recommend you are least trial the product - no cost if you don't like, but I'll be surprised if you turn back! Pros Not much not to like! The fact that you can have a month's free trial to test it out and set everything up is brilliant. It meant we could trial the product at no cost (including excellent support from \[SENSITIVE CONTENT\] ). Although there was paid implementation assistance (cheap!) available I was able to set the whole thing up without having to resort to that (the customer support team is on hand 24/7 to help with any issues). The product is not that mature - which could be seen as a downside. However, the Lightyear team is so responsive that it doesn't actually come across that way. Most of the niggles that I had at the beginning (just over 6 months ago) have already been resolved through the regular product updates, and I have confidence that the remainder will be resolved in due course. The product is very easy to set-up and use (as evidenced by being self-implemented). We have implemented in four locations, and once you understand how things work, it only really takes a couple of hours of setup to do each new location. Cons Given the nature of the rapid development of the product, there is still some work to be done to rationalise all the features (e.g. 'Edit Bill' permissions were add retrospectively to the 'Task Approver' role, so they don't integrate in a completely cohesive manner with the interface). June 10, 2020 5.0 Stone & Wood has a non-corporate and egalitarian culture. Employees are held in trust to do the right thing when purchasing with budgets as a guide. We don't have a purchasing department and we have flexible guidelines on buying stuff. However the board of directors and the auditors want black and white figures and proper accounting standards. I would not be able manage two very different requirements without Lightyear. I would need a lot more staff! Pros What I like most about Lightyear is how easy and versatile it is to use. It saves so much time! Invoices come into Lightyear and are identifiable immediately. Important information from the invoice is automatically read and displayed. Invoice details are easily updated, added and authorised in the one program. The beauty of this is that it happens before it reaches our accounting software which makes the process much more flexible and accurate. All our invoices and statements are stored electronically in this clever filing cabinet and any one granted access can see the actual invoice PDF anytime and quickly. Much easier and more secure than within accounting programs or Outlook. If a supplier has sent an invoice to lightyear, it doesn't go missing. It can't be lost. if it can't be read by Lightyear, it bounces out to your appointed email. Lightyear provides a thorough audit trail. Every time an invoices is read, edited, sent, authorised or declined, etc it is recorded. Cons As we use SAP accounting software, which is not cloud based, our software integration took a bit longer. The team at Lightyear (then Invitbox) worked with our SAP provider helping them write and produce the integration document. Pros If I have to choose just one favourite thing about lightyear it would be the mapping which saves me so much time, however, I continue to find benefits of this product all the time. From all the automations, to the viewable history, through to the supportive team. I could go on and on Cons I love this product for my use, however I am not sure if the department heads/authorisers of the invoices see all the detail I would like them to be checking/confirming as we use job codes as well as ledgers codes.
