Pros I love the automation of data extraction and the built in approval process Lightyear has to offer. It helps me to get my clients data correct, having the correct expenses and payables, and it means I can get multiple levels of approvals before the invoice hits the GL. Cons Sometimes the OCR doesn't work the way I expect, but I know they are constantly improving the software and I'm confident it will be better in future. November 5, 2025 5.0 Lightyear has been a wonderful addition to our accounting routine. Paperless and ease of review, analysing and importing of information into Sage has allowed us to save on at least one worker in our office. In addition, with developments ongoing and the Lightyear team's ambition to add and improve, I can only see us moving more and more processing to the Lightyear platform. Support is always on hand too and response times are prompt. I would have no hesitation in recommending Lightyear to any medium/large business - it is a no brainer! Pros Lightyear has made the handling of paper almost redundant in our office setting. It obviously assists in achieving a Company's sustainability objectives and saves valuable time wasted on managing and shifting paper! Cons It is always painful parting with money but realistically it is reasonable value for money! There is not very much not to like about Lightyear! I look forward to further improvements in the future. Pros I love the speed at witch i can process large volumes of invoices. The statement reconciliation is also very useful. The smart extraction is a game changer for hand-written invoices. The new splitting of merging tool is a great addition. I think Lightyear are constantly looking to improve which is a refreshing change for this type supplier. Cons I find the processing page a little annoying, it jumps around a bit. Rather than work on my actions in the back ground it will jump to an invoice if its completed extracting it. Its not cheap..... The software is very good at saving you time. Say goodbye to tiring amounts of data entry! Those days are gone. You can now focus more on Financial Reporting & Analysis of your business, instead of wasting hours processing invoices manually. My job has turned from 80% of time spent on data entry to less than 15%. I now use this spare time to assist our Senior Accountant with more important tasks, like reporting. This has improved our Finance Team's quality of work significantly and the time saved is well worth the monthly fees you pay to Lightyear. Pros Greatly improves the Accounts Payable & Inventory functions of your business. Significantly reduces the time spent on repetitive tasks like invoice processing and data entry. It allows Accountants to focus more on financial reporting and analysis. The benefit of this can not be understated. For the amount you pay, you will get far greater returns in terms of time saved and output. Try Lightyear! You will not regret it! Cons As with any developing technology; it is in a state of constant improvement. Not all processes are perfect. That being said, the Lightyear Team release regular updates that improve functionality. They are also very open to your feedback, and make updates based on customer feedback. I have only been using Lightyear for 1 year, yet the amount of Improvements has been incredible. The smart extract feature, for example, has improved the functionality of Lightyear ten-fold. A great package that reduces cost of paper and postage that was used on previous system - Cost Effective Pros I have worked around Accounts Payable for more than 30 years and have never worked on a system that is so comprehensively detailed and easy to use - I can't ask for more. Everything at my fingertips. Nice to remove the paper/postage/scanning element. Support for bugs and development at the other end of Phone and resolutions are immediate or put forward for future development. Lightyear would save money re: employment, as saves valuable time and requires less staff. Great tool to educate new staff. Haven't included Procurement package but I guess would integrate with PL. No security issues within the start of 2024 to now. Honest I would recommend. Even a Trial would open your eyes. Cons Obviously the integration of any system can be daunting. But the end result is well worth the Pain.. Cons I can’t sync other details of the supplier that I have created in Lightyear to Xero, such as bank details or contact information. Cons Reading OCR receipts has been a bit behind other competitors but improvement is coming through really quickly. Visibility of the flow of invoices through the approval process is perfect. The Dashboard makes it so easy for our Corporate clients to manage their AP really well and for us to manage the bookkeeping for our clients. They are more than a supplier - they are a true business partner, with the best interests of my business as their main concern (even if it means cutting themselves short a few dollars here and there). Pros Once set up, it's a one-stop-shop for invoice receipt, accounts payable and receivable reconciliation, cost management, and business information. It is intuitive and simple to use, extremely cost-effective and takes out some of the most mundane and laborious tasks so I have more time to work on improving my business and keeping front-of-house. From a Finance perspective it is value for money as it saves the Finance team more time than it costs the business. Pros Onboarding was extremely easy and efficient. The platform is user friendly and saves a huge amount of time in our AP process. The approvers find it easy to use, and it also helps with remote working. It does save a huge amount of processing time, identifies duplicate invoice numbers, streamlines and smoothens the approval system. The Manage Suppliers function helps auto G/L coding to eliminate any inconsistencies and human errors. Pros Taken a huge load in processing time of the supplier invoices, it can streamline the processes, identify duplicate invoices and eliminates any human errors. It is also well integrated with Xero. Cons Getting the right mapping for some suppliers due to their invoice formats can sometimes be challenging and ongoing. Credit notes can at times be problematic as the reference in the credit notes can cause confusion in the processing (due to formats), they can be processed as the original invoices again rather than credit notes. Customer service has been second to none - from the start of demonstrations to ongoing support (which we rarely use now) the service has been 10/10! Pros Complete visibility across supplier invoices either via the dashboard as a quick view or in detail across all stages of approvals. This is especially helpful at the end of the month to see if all invoices have been through the entire approval process and exported to our accounting system before close off. Search functionality is helpful and shows which stage of the process each invoice is at - search results can be exported. The audit trails and notes show full history of the life of the invoice and save a lot of external communication and queries. Implementation was easy after the demonstrations given to us by \[SENSITIVE CONTENT\] who took the time to understand what we wanted (which was a little bit out of the ordinary!) and configure the settings accordingly. We gained confidence in Lightyear through the demonstration/training process and the additional webinars.
