We moved to OnBoard from a system that had constant issues. Board members and staff were frustrated and often would work around the platform. We were also accessing the previous platform, our internal drives, and Microsoft which lead to lost data and extra work on the admin side of things.

Pros

OnBoard makes it easy to have everything you need in one place. No need for multiple platforms or programs to which makes everyone's role easier.

Cons

The only thing that is a challenge is having to set up authorization for each folder and vote. I wish that part was a little more streamlined.

Overall, my experience with OnBoard has been extremely positive. The platform has helped modernize our governance processes and has become an essential tool for board administration. It has saved time, improved organization, enhanced communication with directors and committee members, and reduced the administrative burden associated with meeting preparation. The company continues to invest in improvements and provides excellent educational opportunities to help administrators maximize the platform's capabilities. I would highly recommend OnBoard to organizations looking for a comprehensive board management solution.

Pros

OnBoard has transformed how we prepare for and manage board and committee meetings. The platform is intuitive, easy to navigate, and provides a centralized location for agendas, board books, meeting materials, surveys, and minutes. The ability for board members to access materials from any device, annotate documents, and collaborate securely has significantly improved efficiency and engagement. The customer support team is also responsive, and the ongoing webinars and training resources are very helpful.

Cons

There are a few administrative functions that could be more streamlined. For example, moving agenda items between meetings requires additional manual effort, and there are limited customization options within certain templates. At times, member management can be confusing, particularly when deactivated users continue to appear in certain areas of the platform. Some repetitive setup preferences, such as board book display settings, would benefit from the ability to save default selections.

Alternatives considered

[Diligent Boards](https://www.capterra.com/p/149069/Diligent-Boards/)

Reasons for choosing OnBoard

We evaluated several board management solutions, including Diligent, BoardEffect, and Boardable, but ultimately selected OnBoard because of its ease of use, intuitive interface, and strong meeting management capabilities. Our board members adapted quickly to the platform, and the administrative tools for agendas, board books, surveys, annotations, and minutes were more streamlined for our needs. OnBoard provided the right balance of functionality, user experience, and support without the complexity that some competing platforms presented.

Overall, my experience with OnBoard has been very positive. The platform is user-friendly, well-organized, and provides a convenient centralized location for board documents, meeting materials, and other important information. It has helped streamline our board administration by making materials easier to organize, access, and reference when needed. While pricing can be a challenge for a nonprofit organization operating within a limited budget, I believe OnBoard provides valuable functionality that supports efficient board management and good governance.

Pros

What I like most about OnBoard is the ability to keep all board-related documents and information organized in one centralized location. The platform makes it easy to access meeting materials, reference previous documents, and maintain an organized record of board activities. Its user-friendly design has made managing and retrieving board information much more efficient.

Cons

As a nonprofit organization, we must be intentional about how we allocate our financial resources and ensure that administrative expenses provide sufficient value to the organization. While OnBoard is an effective and valuable platform, the pricing can place additional pressure on a nonprofit’s operating budget. Higher technology and administrative costs can reduce the resources available to support programs, services, and other mission-focused priorities. More flexible nonprofit pricing, discounted rates, or scalable options would help organizations like ours continue to benefit from the platform while maintaining responsible stewardship of limited resources.

Alternatives considered

[BoardEffect](https://www.capterra.com/p/151082/BoardEffect/)

Reasons for choosing OnBoard

We considered BoardEffect as an alternative but ultimately chose OnBoard because we felt it offered a more user-friendly experience and better met our needs for organizing and managing board materials. OnBoard provides a centralized location where board members and staff can easily access meeting materials, governance documents, and other important information. The platform’s organization, accessibility, and ease of use were key factors in our decision.

Very Positive and productive, easy to use and even the board with minimal training and exposure are enjoying the experience

Pros

I like the way the board have access to board papers in an orderly fashion, the board appreciate they do not have to go from document to document

Cons

I would like to be able to run the meeting with the agenda timeline but present as per the book as I find during the meeting jumping in and out of documents distracting

my overall experience with onboard has been positive. the platform makes it easy to organize board materials, access important documents, and manage meetings in one centralized location. while there is a slight learning curve with some features, overall it has been a useful and efficient tool for supporting board communication and organization. i think once you get the hang of it, its pretty easy. people who has never used onboard might get confused to be honest because there is a certain way to navigate stuff.

Pros

what i liked most about onboard was how easy it made it to organize board materials, manage meetings, and keep everything in one centralized location. the platform is user-friendly, efficient, and makes communication and collaboration with board members much easier.

Cons

what i liked least about onboard was that some features could be a little difficult to navigate at first, and certain processes took more steps than expected. there was also a slight learning curve when getting familiar with all of the platform’s features and settings.

Pros

OnBoard has made managing board processes significantly easier for our team. The platform is intuitive and user-friendly, which helped us achieve fast onboarding and strong adoption across members. We especially appreciate the helpful AI tools and how much prep time is saved before meetings. The system improves engagement, reduces email clutter, and keeps everything organized with audit-ready records. Customer support has also been responsive and reliable whenever we’ve needed assistance.

Cons

We love how they are integrating new AI features into OnBoard, but some new features are only available with higher membership tiers.

We were previously using only spreadsheets and it was a total disaster. We now have a single platform where the hand off happens. It is also easy to use.

Pros

So far it has not crashed at all after we started to use Onboard as our client journey tool. That being said, our manager made us start using Onboard for the client journey and the email reminders send on time most of the time. I am relieved that Onboard did not crash when we synced the Salesforce data from it because I expected it to. We also get responses back from the support team quickly.

Cons

There is nothing much to dislike, it works well and that is all that matters to me. Onboard is good.

OnBoard provides us with enough functionality for our small language school for our monthly board meetings. It may be less than ideal, but is better than emailing dozens of attachments. The digital signatures feature is useful when approving new instructors' contracts. Good if you don't demand immediate responses to questions and can accept the occasional bug.

Pros

Having the agenda builder is a lifesaver before board meetings. I can Copy a lesson plan or curriculum material directly into the meeting material. During board meetings, our director likes to be able to annotate PDFs that discuss new courses. Plus the value is exactly what we need in our budget bound education, we've spent less than what we used to spend on print materials.

Cons

When I'm uploading samples from multiple language books, sometimes the document upload freezes. Technical support is set to respond within 2-3 days, however this is to be frustrating in making urgent presentations to the Board. I got tripped up with how to find meeting minutes in the interface at first, then it took weeks.

It’s better than we used to print an enormous amount of paper, although we still jam frequently. It encrypts the confidential information so that others cannot access C-Suite documentation. The ability to replace pages at the last minute without notifying the Directors of this fact is the only reason why I haven’t lost my mind today. It provides real-time competitor insight, which I never thought would really work but it does.

Pros

The section that allows you to simply drag documents into a binder and create something within seconds is alright. It’s 4 hours since I’ve left this meeting space and my coffee has gone cold as a result, however I’m relieved that the questionnaire reports appear without manual manipulation of the data. It also puts all the calendar and governance items together in one place so I won’t have to dig through my cluttered inbox again. The phone application appears to work whether or not the WiFi dies in this building, therefore the Directors will at least be able to view their papers.

Cons

If the uploaded images aren’t exactly 300 dpi, it doesn’t correct them but rather reject them. And I am sick of reformating things five times. Also, putting all newly added content to the Resource Center at the bottom of the list is completely nonsensical. When there are large binders, it becomes slow and laborsome to scroll through them.
