Cons Having to upgrade to use the other features, it would be nice to have the availability at least to use the calculation option without the upgrade. But it is a free service for GCs so I make the most of it Cons I dont like that jobs we have permitted end up on planhub. He tried to sell me a region something that I didn't want because the area is mostly waterways and swamps. I said I Would rather have a radius that I could tailor to my footprint. His behavior alone will keep me from ever using their product. Pros Planhub doesn't even compare to the other bid boards. Cons I have projects in site of my office and its not in my area? I liked it allot better three years ago. The only thing different is higher prices and more add on's. It does well in an industry that is ready for modernization Pros I liked that PlanHub has modernised an old way of working into a complete platform for contractors. Working as a Landscaper, PlanHub makes it so much easier to find projects that suit your needs rather than the old way of scrolling craigslist and marketplace for jobs and calling people up. Cons As a small business, PlanHubs pricing is expensive and has a high entry barrier. June 4, 2025 2.0 It has been slightly annoying and less than ideal at best I can't even use it as an invited subcontractor. Pros honestly, I'm not sure as it seems to be only able to access projects if you are paying for a subscription. unlike other platforms that will let you view all details if you have been invited to bid by the GC. General contractors paid to use the service to get bids from subcontractors for their projects. We subs already work for free in the hopes that the GCs we're bidding to win the job, AND that they choose us - in the world of estimating, we are at the most distinct disadvantage in the equation. Everyone knows this. Then planhub went on a rampage trying to monopolize the market, buying up competing and complementary services. Now planhub charges subs thousands of dollars to be able to download plans for the ITBs the GCs send us. So for us, planhub has become a notification system that a job is out there. It's less expensive to do a few minutes of research and reach out to the GC directly. The market is ripe for a revolution. Everywhere I go, people complain about planhub. I'm eager to see what emerges to disrupt their rent-seeking. Pros There is literally nothing we like about planhub. The only thing it is good for is letting you know a job is bidding. It's like the worst and most obtrusive notification system on the planet. Cons Their monopolistic rent-seeking behavior. Their exorbitant paywall. Their unethical and retaliatory sales reps (actually had one threaten me for asking her to stop calling our office multiple times a day). Reason for choosing PlanHub Ultimately, we didn't. Real Estate Used the software for: 2+ years ### "GREAT RESOURCE" August 8, 2019 5.0 We benefit a lot by making sure we are sending our proposals to all of the GC's that are bidding the specific job. We get direct ITB's from most of our customers, but it's always valuable to see "who else" is bidding the job so that we maximize our opportunity of winning the project. Pros I get to search for specific commercial jobs that our company is specifically interested in. With the filters you can apply, we get to avoid any potential jobs that we are not interested in doing, including in the geographic areas we specifically work. Cons When you are using the search function; unless you specifically type in the title of the project the way it was entered on the other end, you will not be able to find that project. For example, if you are interested in looking for a specific T-Mobile project. If you search Tmobile without the hyphen, the project will not show up. And vice versa; if the human being uploaded that T-mobile in the system and they did or didn't use the hyphen. Depending on how you search it, you won't find it. If you mispell a project, it will simply say it doesn't exist. So there needs to be an improvement to the software such that any version of the spelling you type in will show up. The ability to search for projects by name is a little tricky if not spelled exactly as the project is posted. We deal with the same issue internally. Fortunately we are currently working on PlanHub 2.0 which will have an improved search feature similar to how Google's search works. Even if you spell a name incorrectly it should generate close matches. PlanHub 2.0 is scheduled to be release before the end of 2019. TB Tom B. The service only costs me $1700 per year for my entire company to use. Director of Estimating Construction Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Quick and Easy " August 4, 2021 3.0 It is a fast way to get the project out to a larger group of subcontractors, but it is very hard to "work" a project through Plan Hub. There is currently no easy way to see a subs email address and enter a note on the project about what you did (i.e. - called and \[SENSITIVE CONTENT\] said he is bidding but will submit late.) We also want to be able to see how far away from the project a sub is located (how many miles away are they) Pros It is a fast way to get a project posted to subcontractors Cons You have no control over what subcontractors it goes to if you want to use the public database. The trade categories to pick trades from is not great - some areas are too detailed and some are too narrow or not there. August 23, 2019 2.0 It's a bit less than average- the overall setup is amazing and simple to add the project but the quality contractors don't seem to be very helpful. I think if there was a type of qualification process for contractors to add their information, for it to be a bit more accurate that would expand quality! Pros The ease of putting the project out for bid, simplicity and "surprise" bids that we receive occasionally. Cons Contractors can add numerous trades if not all and that's not their trade of work. Contractor coverage doesn't seem to impact our bidding process, we don't receive too many bids or contractors to confirm during our estimating phase. I spend the time as a sub-contractor to create drawings, do my take offs, create and submit bids, and I never hear back from the GC's. No "thank you," "your are in the running," "your price is too high," "in the park", nothing. I now see a Planhub email and just delete it, even after unsubscribing. The GC's send out invites knowing full well they have a "favorite" sub that they work with. Planhub is just checking a box for the GC... Pros Ease of access to plans and downloads of documents. Cons Unknown status of submitted bids. They are making me say more, so... Why isn't there a status indicator letting me know my bid has been viewed. Letting me know something. Construction Used the software for: 6-12 months ### "Thoughts on Plan Hub" August 8, 2019 3.0 In theory this should benefit my business because it presents a pool of potential clients to engage with and try to build relationships with. It seems however, that based on the wide-spread access to these opps the GC's may be getting inundated with quotes to the point where they feel less to no urgency to respond in most instances. It's a good service with a good concept, and the price is great considering my whole team uses it across the country. Ultimately, it just may not align with what we need to focus our efforts on. Pros I like that it opened up more opportunities for me to have visibility to that I may not have seen otherwise. It's nice to have another resource to try and identify and pursue biddable projects through. Cons It can be tricky to find a project I viewed previously sometimes. It is also a bit awkward to access projects the way it is currently configured. Once your in the opportunity its laid out well. I've noticed a very low close rate from projects that I've identified on this service. It is also hard to get any type of response from the GC's asking for quotes. Maybe my type of business just isn't aligned properly in regards to what we are targeting: Large Multi-Family and other big scale commercial projects. But we as a user must reply bidding or not bidding. Toi the GC firm give us the time of day to respond back if we are the awarded contractor. If our bid is competitive to get the quote work.. Even if they don't get the bid. They could use this software to let us know. Therefore PlanHub.. Give us..the people who pay for this service, the ability to block your email listing for a GC- job types- ect . This has improved our ability to be extremely competitive while enabling us to forge new and lasting relationships with subcontractors. Pros The ease of selecting the trades and scope of work required for the project type selected. The enormous amount of subs that can be reached or that can see a posted project. The formal bid invite that is sent via Plan Hub is professional too. Cons Editing a project is still somewhat frustrating and in some areas there aren't enough options to choose from. There is no place for photos in the plans area. It's more responsive, clean, and less clunky. The simplicity in the design is definitely a winning feature. Pros The greatest thing about this software is the ease of use. Any person is able to easily figure out the basic workings of plan hub within a day or so of playing around with it. Cons The main con is that when a separate email is sent to us with the message content from plan hub, sometimes it can be very difficult, and in a few instances impossible to figure out which project the message is coming from. The email contains a link, but for an unknown reason, at times when I click the link plan hub does not take me directly to the message thread, but only directs me to the dashboard of projects. For someone like us, who review upwards of 20 projects a day, it becomes impossible to go back to every project and message to try to link it to the correct one. Projects are never updated with awarded CM or GC's. And there are usually more GC's bidding but they are never put on there. You find our an award was handed out after the job has already started. It seems like they are put on the site and just forgotten about. When you ask for updates, nobody gets back to you. Very frustrating and disappointing for small to medium customers like us that could use a jump ahead of the bigger companies. May cancel my subscription.
