### "Review of Design Files"

March 24, 2022

5.0

Wonderful

Pros

One of the things that has impressed me about DF is their responsiveness to designers' needs. Customer service is wonderful as well. I use DF every day in my business and I can't wait to see how it continues to grow and develop to make the design process even more seamless and fun. I have loved it so much I recommended it to our entire team, and they've just signed on!

Cons

The 3D modeling program is basic, but still useful. I do turn to another program for my 3D modeling needs.

### "Best “Does Everything” Program for Interior Design "

October 15, 2025

5.0

I absolutely love DesignFiles. Customer service is helpful and responsive. They have a Facebook group where you can go ask the community for program tips and other advice related to interior design. And they are constantly making useful upgrades!

Pros

DesignFiles is an all in one program for my interior design business! It does everything I need (floor plans, 3D, moodboards, invoicing, time tracking, and a lot of things I don’t even use at this point)

Cons

The 3D item library isn’t huge, but they are constantly making updates and this isn’t a critical need of mine

### "Looks Great—But Not Ready for Professional Use"

June 27, 2025

1.0

Overall, DesignFiles looks promising at first but falls short in practice. It feels overpriced for what you get, and the lack of professional polish makes it hard to trust for client-facing work. I wouldn’t recommend it unless you’re prepared to constantly troubleshoot and pay for features you may not use.

Pros

The idea behind having everything in one platform—design boards, sourcing, and proposals—seems convenient in theory.

Cons

The platform feels unpolished and clunky. Basic functions require constant workarounds. Furniture sourcing doesn’t update automatically, creating unnecessary headaches. Clients lose access to their files if you pause your account, which feels unfair. Support staff mostly offer excuses instead of real solutions.

### "Easy to use Design Software"

July 26, 2021

4.0

A design friend turned me on to DF and I couldn't have been more thankful. Using DF has been a great tool for my business. Prior to this I was using Photoshop, which works, but took SO much more time. I'm still evolving my processes and trying to make things faster and easier, which DF has helped in that. I don't know if I totally love the invoicing and purchasing, but I use it because it's all in one place; I'm sure that will evolve with time as DF gets feedback from customers. I do appreciate how much they do take customer thoughts into consideration!

Pros

Mood board & floor planner are easy to use, there are some quirks/inconveniences that could be addressed. Lots of features like invoicing, purchasing, time tracker, etc., are nice to have integrated in the program and are easy to share with clients. Lots of well known retail companies' products are included in the software which is a huge plus and saves time from clipping. Although, I've noticed some current products aren't updated within the program.

Cons

There are a few quirks that could be addressed. One being that the mood board allows using the delete button to remove items, but the floor planner does not. You have to click an item and then hit the trash button. This may seem insignificant, but actually is clunky and bogs you down when someone like me works fairly quickly. Plus, if you use both types of boards, not having the same functionality can be quite frustrating. A couple larger issues I have is 1.) not being able to track projects in one place. It takes too much time to go into each project to track work. Not only should you be able to see it under each project, but once created, you should be able to go under a main "Track Projects" tab and see ALL your projects at once. This would be invaluable I would think and feels more organized and intuitive. 2.) I wish you could select multiple items to be able to move them around together! Huge pain point for me. 3.) I would love to be able to go to "Financials" and create Invoices and POs there. There are days when I'd like to sit down and do all my invoicing or purchasing and, again, it would be nice to not have to go back and forth to each project. 4.) not a huge con per se, but being more of a kitchen/bath designer, I'd love more options here, but I might have to find other software for this.

### "A great tool for managing your design business"

May 20, 2021

4.0

I use it every day and for all of my clients - it's my mode of sharing information, exchanging comments with clients, tracking revisions. It has been a valuable asset as I've started my new business.

Pros

The ability to clip products from the web and capture the dimensions and information then save it into your own library has been a game changer for me. Now shopping lists are just a push of a button away - so much time saved! I also love that my clients can view, comment and share my design boards and floor plans easily in an environment that is polished and professional looking. The ability to generate quotes and invoices has also been so valuable - I'm just starting my business and the level of financial functionality is just right for a small company. Integration with my existing processes was easy, and my clients love it. And the customer service has been great through their Facebook page - they are always improving the system and really listen to us!

Cons

Time tracking is new and still has room for more sophistication. Design board creation is a bit clunky - removing backgrounds can be frustrating, adding text isn't as intuitive as it could be. Weak with CRM, project management and task tracking.

### "It's such a complete tool, I gradually stopped using any other system."

March 24, 2021

5.0

Overall, I can say that I am managing about one third more projects than before in the same time. Which is incredible! The longer I use the software, the more I feel I'm getting quicker. I may get to the point where I doubled my productivity!

Pros

What I love the most is the Web Clipper, it makes my life so much easier and I don't have to save and download thousand of pictures in my computer. It allows me to have a full library of products, whether I use them every day or just once, where I can keep all the related notes and pictures as well. I also really like the fact that while creating a mood board I am also creating a price list, so that I don't have to repeat all the work.

Cons

I am a new user, therefore I may have not discovered some of the features that allow me to customize my templates fully - though, I think there should be a possibility to format the description and notes fields in Quotes/Invoices/POs. Sometimes the text in there is so extensive that I would like to split it into paragraphs, or make some words bold or italics. I have to shorten the text for it not to get overwhelming, having to sacrifice info that may be important.

Switched from

[Microsoft 365](https://www.capterra.com/p/227157/Microsoft-365/)

I used to have a file for every aspect of the project, then all of them filed into a client's folder. I had to make copies of those files if I had to send them to clients, so I could remove my costs from the documents/ DesignFiles allows me to have everything in one place, I can log in from anywhere, I can mindlessly share anything with the clients because it is all ready and packed for them to review, without sending any of the information they dont need to see. Plus, the Web Clipper function is incredible, that alone would have been enough for me to switch.

### "Good for What I need Right Now"

November 12, 2020

4.0

DesignFiles has saved me so much time in my process. Searching and saving products is so much easier and my clients love the mood boards and the simplicity of approving items. I think there is a lot of opportunity for improvement, but that's exciting. I look forward to growing my business with DesignFiles as it grows. As an added note, before I changed careers to design I was a product manager for online software. If you are ever looking for beta testers with QA experience I would be happy to give feedback :)

Pros

Very easy to use, not overly complex for my needs. My clients like how easy it is to approve and reject products. The web clipper is great and I love how easy it is to go from mood board to quote to invoice etc.

Cons

The lack of customization options. I would love to add notes to a product that are private to me (ie. somewhere I can put the MSRP or MAP, estimated restock or whatever that can be hidden from the client view). I would also love more control over what is visible/hidden to clients (like hide the brand name, but keep the description). I understand this works for e-design where clients would be doing all the purchasing, but is not great when I'm specifying from trade sources (I've had to delete the brand name entirely so that I can keep the description). I would also love to be able to include the shipping costs in the product details so I don't have to keep looking them up when we get to the proposal time. It would also be great to have the ability to customize the templates for things like the design presentation PDF (the products take up so much space on the page!) or the tear sheets (multiple images, description with line breaks) but it works right now and I think this would be the lowest priority to me. For some clients I end up exporting the mood board image only, adding it to a canva file with my nice layout and presenting the products in the quote format. It's a work around but it's still faster than my old way.

Reason for choosing DesignFiles

Studio Designer was another one that was not listed above. Ultimately I felt all the other software programs were really focused on large-scale businesses with epic renovaitons and mutliple team members. I work on my own and am mainly specifying decorating and e-design projects so they were over-engineered for my business. I do find I need a project management tool in addition to DesignFiles (right now I'm using Honeybook but I hate it) to help me keep track of leads, project stages, workflows and tasks.

### "Overall a Game Changing Product!"

July 10, 2020

5.0

Pros

I find that the product is quite user friendly and easy to use. I LOVE the beautiful and professional way all client presentation documents are laid out. Am so grateful that the product list presentations are automatically generated as you create your moodboard/render. Appreciate so much the Photoshop like features that are built into the mood board software. LOVE that I can manually cut out photos and distort images.

Cons

These are some updates that would really be nice. Inclusion of these features would really help my business run more smoothly and efficiently, and these would help save me TONS of time. When adding products to a client project it would be nice if the page did not always jump back to the first page of products every time you add a product to the project. Would also be nice to have a way to bulk add products to a project. Wish you could search products by a category - like side tables, sofas, rugs, etc. A way to favorite products in the pre-loaded products section. Or a way to be able to add them to your own library.  Would really be great if the client did not have to set-up a login to Design Files to be able to access the presentations. My clients never remember the password they set-up and constantly have difficulty then logging in. Would also be great if there was a way to share the client presentations through a link so that this link could be included in an email, etc. Would LOVE a way to search for a color in the text editing portion of the moodboards by a hex code so that I could get my exact branded colors in my text. Would LOVE if there was a way to have more text editing functions in the design rationale section. Like bolding, underlining, italics, bullet points, numbered lists/outlines, etc. Would LOVE to see a Design Files app. I constantly need to pull up Design Files on my phone when I am out shopping, having a quick meeting with clients, etc.

Switched from

[Mydoma Studio](https://www.capterra.com/p/155585/Mydoma-Studio/)

Primarily I switched because MyDoma did not have a good mood board creation feature in their software. Their mood board feature was very limited in what it offered for how you could layout the board, and did not look very professional once complete. They also did not have as nice of a presentation of product lists to share with clients. Overall it was not as pretty and professional looking as Design Files, and was more about the designer experience than the client experience in my opinion. I like that Design Files has considered both the designer and client in their designs of this software.

### "DesignFiles - highly recommend!"

December 21, 2023

5.0

My experience has been great thus far. I started using DesignFiles through Interior Design Institute for a design project assignment, which also comes highly recommended through Dakota Design Concepts.

Pros

The overall holistic offering that I need for my interior design business.

Cons

The "add to DesignFiles" add-on doesn't work for some websites, which makes it a bit more time consuming to download the picture so I can upload the information into my library for use on a design board project.

Alternatives considered

[HoneyBook](https://www.capterra.com/p/162588/HoneyBook/)

Reason for choosing DesignFiles

I initially chose HoneyBook due to the cost being lower, but figured out after using my free access through IDI that I liked the functionality of DesignFiles over HoneyBook. I will begin the process of transitioning fully over to DesignFiles in the coming months.

Switched from

[HoneyBook](https://www.capterra.com/p/162588/HoneyBook/)

I liked DesignFiles functionality better and it offered a better overall solution for my business; design boards with budgets, shopping lists, approval process, invoicing, etc.

### "Consolidates Everything - Saves Me Time!"

June 12, 2023

5.0

Just the invoicing issue where some banks are not supported and have to recreate the task wheel on every project. Overall, I LOVE Design Files and am really glad my business consultant (\[sensitive content hidden\]) recommended this!!

Pros

Very-user friendly with a lot of ways to learn all the features and functionality. This cut my admin time significantly (along with my stress) and allows me to work within one program for my projects. I am positive this will help my business grow without me burning it at both ends all the time.

Cons

A task/checklist template that can be used for different projects would be very helpful. Something that is standard to a similar place (i.e. a living room) that can be accessed by the team working on the project would be nice!

Reason for choosing DesignFiles

More features, very user-friendly, much better customer service

### "Great Software!"

January 3, 2022

5.0

I love what you guys are doing! You have the best and most efficient interface out there for designers who don't want to bother with CAD and other similar products that are often too clunky and complicated. Big high fives to your developers and creators! I have been waiting for this for years! A few tweaks as described above would make it perfect!

Pros

I love how easy this is to use! It's close to perfect for what I need it for! It's easy to import products from anywhere, price them and offer to clients.

Cons

I would love to be able to save or file items from any vendor into a favorites folder or something similar. It would be extremely beneficial to be able to curate my own items from within the uploaded vendors so that I can more easily find products that I may have used in another project. Moving from project to project, it's often difficult to re-find items. It would also be nice to make a copy of a design that can be moved to another project. I'd also like to be able to change the order in which the pages of each project are viewed. I'd also like it if after editing a background out, there's a way to save the edited photo. Maybe in the same favorites folder? Last note- it would be great to be able to label multiple uploads at once with the same vendor info, so that it reduces the input time of new products when in a rush.

Reason for choosing DesignFiles

Ease of use, availability of auto-populated products from good vendors and the ability to add other products and vendors on my own.

### "Time Saving Design Tool"

August 8, 2020

5.0

DesignFiles enables you to collate all projects together in a very organised platform which helps you take control of seeing the progress of each project easily which has greatly organised all our many projects into the one location easy to access anytime on any device. The ease of communication between designer and client has help us maintain a level of care for clients we couldn’t achieve before without a lot of effort. Has greatly reduced the paper trail. Has helped move design projects to implementation stage more quickly and enabled us to take on more projects.

Pros

The layout and easy of use. The many features and functions. The work flow that all design procedures can be housed in the one place. Most of all the drive and passion of the developers who really care about the industry and making life easy and business more profitable for the end user. Training videos are so nicely arranged and each section is broken down into easy to refer to segments.

Cons

Would be good to customise the interfaces more so that it includes company colours and branding. The floor planner would be better if the wall sizes could be typed in and there was an angle degree option. Need relevant library for the UK market. Better Wallpaper and window furnishings needed on 3D library. Carpet textures on 3D library too overscaled. Not having a project management tool included.,

### "Great so far!"

August 12, 2020

4.0

It's definitely streamlined my process a bit - and many of my clients really like it! The price is reasonable. Though there are improvements and kinks to work out, the software has a lot of potential and the customer service has been very good so far. Lots of tutorials available and easy learning curve.

Pros

2d room rendering feature Ability for client to comment on items

Cons

\- No elevations - Cant do a 3d rendering with pieces I want to use - Background remover doesn't work well, I have to do it in another program and re-enter product info - No efficient inventory tracker for my business to sell our own items- have to track externally - Would love my 3D renderings to show up in the "room library" in the 2d board creator. - I would love to be able to pull products from my library into a quote to send the client, for an accessories buy or a "lighting only" buy for example. As of now I need to use external software to do different things. A simple "LIST" document to send clients with an image and price for them to sign off on would be awesome!

Reason for choosing DesignFiles

I like being able to do renderings directly in the program.

### "Design Files Brings Simplicity to the Design Process"

March 11, 2019

5.0

It's a huge bonus to provide my clients 24/7 online access to review designs, make comments and, soon, issue payment - especially being here in San Francisco which is a very fast, super digitized city. In my website content, I am adding and promoting these features as a value added benefit of why to work with me!

Pros

Great user interface and customizable platform for my interiors business. I am able to leverage a powerful online platform for my clients 24/7 access and it's gives me a great service edge. I feel very personally well acquainted with this platform due to the accessibility of customer support and simple, easy to understand tutorials. The support staff is approachable and super informative. Having the Facebook group is helpful as interior designers always need a professional forum to chat about this adventurous E -Design business model!

Cons

There is not too much I don't like as it offers me alot of creative freedom and informs my design process in an intuitive way to build great design packages for my clients. From the financials side, functionality is a big topic however. Simple online payments will be convenient. Working my mark up and design fee into the pricing structure is also helpful. However I understand DF is not an accounting platform. I have worked extensively with Studio Webware and probably will continue to for more in depth billing breakdowns. For instance, SW is effective when specifying custom items with multiple components like fabric, trim, fabrication, etc and being able to bundle the pricing into one line item price for clients to see. Having this sort of custom item function might be a great add-in. Obviously, SW is required for revenue tracking and tax reporting purposes. The stuff designers hate to do but must understand. I have researched most, if not all interior design software extensively and still don't know one program that does it all....

### "Just About the Best Back-End Software for My Business"

April 8, 2020

5.0

It's made me able to think straight, keep a myriad of details organized, and helps me up my presentation game - both digitally and in person.

Pros

Simple. Clean. GREAT VALUE. Helps my look professional and polished with my clients, and keeps me organized behind the scenes. They add new features all the time, in response to direct input from the interior design community.

Cons

Really, the only drawback is that occasionally it's down for a while, I suspect with updates?, but every now and then I cannot utilize all the functions when I want to. However, the DesignFiles team is extremely responsive and easy to communicate with.

Reason for choosing DesignFiles

As a smaller design studio, I did not need a product that was overly complicated. Plus, I am looking to manage my monthly subscription obligations (doesn't it seem like everyone wants you to commit to spending money "on your business"?). DesignFiles first attracted me because of the price. However, it's much more robust than first meets the eye, and I have found it to be flexible for my needs, easy for my clients to access their project dashboards, and there is a sense of community with the user group. I'm very happy.

### "Expedite Your Work Day"

April 6, 2020

5.0

So far my experience has been very good and any questions I had were answered and resolved in short order. Customer service experience has always been friendly, polite, and above and beyond. Also, received follow up emails to ask if my question/s or need was solved or if I needed further assistance. I was also offered a one on one in the beginning to get things going in my account as I was very busy at the time and couldn't waste time on the learning curve. Wasn't expecting such support even though there are many self-help videos in their system.

Pros

Ease of creating all aspects of creating the client file from design board, price lists, messaging.

Cons

#1. The "Packages" page format could look more professional from a client standpoint. Optional fonts, layout, etc. Profile picture banner hides quality of the photo/picture behind it--too grayed over. Would like to see the "packages" boxes in wider format so we can "list/bullet" as well as description of said project would read better in wider version format. #2. Need an option to "Close Out" a project when we've finished what the client needs. (They / we should be able to still SEE the project details, but clients can no longer message us within that project. Without closure the client project has no boundaries. #3. Ability to have our stationary (biz name, info, project, etc;) not have to be added to each and every new client project. But one we can cookie cut and adjust when/if needed. (Although that might already exist and I haven't utilized that feature.)

Reason for choosing DesignFiles

A designer buddy referred me and raved about Designfiles. Said it was truly fast and easy. I like it because clients find it easy to work with which is key since not all clients are tech savvy.

Overall, it's been great. I look forward to using Design Files more often with every new feature!

Pros

I can't speak for all of the features, as I only require a few for my work, but I love the Design Boards, Shopping lists, Questionaire, and Tracker features. One of the best things about Design Files is customer service. Truly the best I have ever encountered across all fields. \[SENSITIVE CONTENT HIDDEN\] is friendly, helpful, and extremely accommodating of any requests from us designers. And \[SENSITIVE CONTENT HIDDEN\] is great too, I truly believe her when she says she cares about our user experience, it's not just talk like with other service companies...

Cons

It's not great that we have to set our currency in settings across the board. I would like the ability to set currency per project, as I am often jumping between Euro and CHF depending on the client. It would also be nice to be able to add 3d models of furniture I'm proposing into the floorplan feature. I use another program for my floorplans mainly for that reason... It would also be great if the 3d models could be linked to the product catalogue so that a shopping list could be generated directly from a floorplan.

### "Learning resources that actually help"

March 14, 2024

5.0

I'm delighted with my experience with DesignFiles and look forward to learning more in the coming days. I love that they are working on features to further enhance my business.

Pros

The comprehensive training library is incomparable. These videos are the most helpful training and customer support that I've found. Additionally, I've learned so much about affiliate links and affiliate networks as well as social media platforms and how Design Files works within these. While these are critical in e-design, I didn't expect to learn as much as I have. I'm so grateful for this tool!

Cons

The videos make everything look easy, but my practice and mastering take a little more time.

### "Design Files"

Love it!

Pros

We have been using DesignFiles for a year or more and we have been very happy with it. One of the representative's customer service is the absolute best! We plan on using it even more since we are starting to launch an E-Design division of our business. They only thing that would make it better is if we could do actual 3D drawings and floor plans using our client's room measurements. We have to do them in a separate program and then import all the information. We would definitely pay more for this feature.

Cons

I wish that we could precisely size multiple items the same using actual dimensions like you could in the previous version of the software. As in all the photos could be set at a certain dimension. It would be great if once we crop, manually remove background or correct the color range of an item, it would stay that way in our library so when we use it again we would not have to do that all over again. I would love it if the program saved the email addresses after we enter it once so that we would not have to look up our clients email address every time we want to sent them a new design for other rooms. These things aren't really cons, they are more my wish list!

### "So easy. Always improving. I am excited to grow with DesignFiles."

June 26, 2020

4.0

This software is easy to learn and start using right away. This has me hooked. It still needs improvement for layout efficiencies so I can work faster. They are minor things but would make a huge difference for me. I am impressed at how new features rollout and get communicated to the membership. I know the team behind this software definitely cares about its functionality and that's amazing.

Pros

What I find extremely useful is the ability to add products to my Design Files library as I research the internet. This is the most time consuming part of my process, so this definitely adds efficiencies. Some websites cooperate more than others though. The new 3D Floorplan is great to get that at-a-glance visual. I need this and so do clients. With the most recent updates, I found it extremely useful for a living room project I just started.

Cons

As an experienced graphic designer now turned interior designer, software I am used to using has more features that make the layout process much faster. Has this software improved the time I spend on a project? Not necessarily, but the presentation has been praised by several clients. My intake process is also approached differently — not so based on style, etc. — so the questionnaire tool isn't as useful to me. Same with billing and project tracking. I already have a process, so I don't really utilize these tools right now, but I can see how they be very helpful to others.

Reason for choosing DesignFiles

I am always open to giving software a good try. So far, Design Files has been helpful, allowing me to create nice presentations for clients.

### "For being a "leader" in design related file and project management it still has a long ways to go!"

I wouldn't use it if we did not have to.

Pros

That vendors have uploaded their product.

Cons

That the software does not automatically make each image look its best regarding the background, not enough vendors, takes forever to put a project together because of slow it responds and takes to edit everything.

### "Good product that could use some improvements"

July 21, 2021

4.0

Developing and designing home interior furnishings for clients. It is a great way to interact with clients and make purchasing decisions.

Pros

I think the style boards and the ability for my clients to interact with me on individual pieces of furnishings. Also the ability to do quick edits on each style board.

Cons

The floor plan builder is very clunky. Difficult to use. Also, need to add more products...especially items like indoor and outdoor plants, modern furnishings, wallpaper, bathroom fixtures, etc.
