Cons When certain features break, the support team will acknowledge this promptly, but it can be a very long time before fixes occur (if ever). These are typically not operationally critical, but it's still a source of frustration. Setup was super quick and a breeze. We were up and running in a few hours. Support is phenomenal. Pros It is super easy to setup and use. A lot of our shelter and rescue partners use it making transfers a breeze. API allows for easy integration with other tools and solutions. Love that there is no subscription fee and instead pay $2 per adoption, which is more than covered by our adoption fee, of course. More than anything, the support is phenomenal, which is a rare thing these days, sadly. Cons Being able to access certain features from all screens would be cool. The user experience and interface could use a little improvement but it’s no big deal. It was a neat software to use on the receiving end to view pets, read about the personalities, and see pictures. Pros I adopted my sweet little puppy through Shelterluv, and the process was seamless and easy. The communication was easy to facilitate. Cons The only downside that I noticed about Shelterluv was that I never received the health records automatically from them. There was no way for me to sign in and get them. Thankfully I was able to email the organization directly. What was once the best system in the market has now fallen. Shelterluv practically abandoned their previous software version for 2+ years and kept telling customers the new version would fix their issues. However, when the new system rolled out it was very buggy and there were even cases where other shelter's data showed up in my reports. Clearly not acceptable. I have opened 17 support tickets (each for a different issue) in the 4 days we have been on the new version. I would urge those looking for shelter management systems to explore all options and not blindly move forward with Shelterluv. Pros Mobile checkout is a nice function for adoption processing. Cons Too many functions of their new system are buggy, inaccurate, impossible to use, etc. I believe their testing practices are very sub-par, because after working on a new system for years the issues are simply too obvious and too plentiful. This upgrade is touted as an architectural overhaul at the foundation of the application, but so far it feels a whole lot like lipstick on a pig. Hopefully the work to the core system will allow them to roll out more reliable functions in the future. We felt supported through the entire set-up/configuration process and the representatives were very clear about what the software was, and was not capable of. Customer service operates via email, and they are usually very prompt with solutions. It is easy to train new staff members on, there are rarely any bugs or glitches. Pros Extremely easy to use and train new employees on. Reports are customizable, configurations are easy, and extraneous information can easily be eliminated from configurable forms. For the money, there is no better software for an organization that is data driven and wants to track key performance areas. Cons While reports are customizable, there is data that is collected in the software that is lost in the ether. For example, length of stay report leaves much to be desired and is bare-bones- there is no way to track length of stay by intake type, animal size group, or age, even though all of this data is collected in the software. For an organization that does not want to use Shelterluv as a point of sale, it can include extraneous steps at the point of intake and outcome that still require you to discount services that are rendered. The service intake/outcome function displays animals in your shelter inventory, even if you do not track those numbers towards your overall count. It would also be more functional to create a service event and add people and animals to it, rather than be prompted from the same lengthy service intake screen each time- when running a high capacity vaccine clinic, having to start from scratch with every service intake can be extremely time consuming and causes back-ups. I’ve helped animal shelters change to and set up the software. I also used this for a rescue I founded. I tried other softwares which costed more, were cumbersome, and difficult to set up, and lack of customer service help unless their time was paid for. It was a frustrating experience trying to find the right software, when I found Shelterluv I was so relieved at the ease of use along with comprehensive functionality. Pros I’m like that it is intuitive to use and set up for an organization. If there is something I can’t figure out I can ask customer service and they will respond within 1-2 days with a helpful solution. It also has comprehensive field services option. Cons I wish there was an easy way to message fosters from the software about their fosters, or to ask if they can take an animal. It would be nice to not have to use a separate foster management system. Pros Paperless adoptions (amazing during Covid, but still great every day), customer service is responsive and helpful, continuous improvements of the software. One of the best features is the digital adoption checkout process, that gently asks the adopter to make a donation or cover the fees (software and credit card) for the adoption. We earn more in donations than the per-adoption software fees we are charged. Cons I'd like to import my own data from our previous system, but it probably is safer and cleaner that they do it. They have implemented many changes we've suggested. Pros Shelterluv has paid for itself with its options for adopters to donate at the time of adoption, as well as its user-friendly online donation page that converts well. One of the biggest benefits of Shelterluv is how intuitive it is. Anyone who uses basic websites like Facebook or online shopping can easily navigate it. Cons Shelterluv actually created our own custom kennel card for us because we were not happy with any of the available kennel card options. I was surprised at how their default printed kennel card and online pet display options were not as customizable as I'd hoped. Customer service is attentive and responsive. I love the customization options for many items and having one software to manage all aspects of our rescue. Pros Remote/mobile adoptions that allows us to customize everything about it. We choose the files sent to the new adopters, customize the contract and so much more. The integrations are also a wonderful asset. Collaboration with Maddie’s pet assistant and petfinder has been very helpful. Cons The learning curve was hard without the training. While it is an easy to use software, I opted to try to learn on my own and it took so much longer. February 3, 2021 5.0 The amount of time our staff saves on a daily basis by using Shelterluv is incredible. We have become more efficient all around. And the built in donation ask during adoptions has resulted in a huge amount of donations that we otherwise would not have recieved. Pros Shelterluv is extremely intuitive and was obviously designed by people who know how animal sheltering works. The reporting features and ability to customize just about all aspects of the software are amazing. We are still finding new features and functions and when we ask "I wonder if it can...?" the answer is almost always "yes". The customer support is excellent with remarkable response time to inquiries. Cons If would be nice to be able to enter vaccines, treatments, etc in the future when we know they are going to happen, but I understand why this isn't allowed in order to keep data accurate. It supports our vision of what modern day rescue can look like. No paper, accurate records, easily trainable to volunteers AND generates more revenue than we’ve paid out for its service! Pros ShelterLuv has allowed us to management several types of animals with absolute ease! Tapering doses of prescriptions have to be entered on different labels. They focused more on the animals in the shelter vs the medical side of things. Now that the shelter life is updated, they need to update and work on the medical side of things Pros Helps keep track of all the animals in custody. Gives you the ability to set up different application options. Lets you add treatments for animals Cons Since the update there have been more issues than before. A lot of my application emails are not being sent/delivered to the applicant. None of my quick forms work anymore, even when I delete them and re-set them up. Cons We elect to use ShelterPay - the deposits for our adoptions can sometime take 4-5 days to happen - it is very inconvenient to have the payment so delayed. We enjoy it very much- ShelterLuv looks clean, easy to navigate, and has an extremely responsive and helpful support team. Thank you! Pros We love the ease of use for this software, which is extremely affordable for us! We love the customization for our specific needs, how ShelterLuv helps auto calculate and pre-fill fields, and integrates with our website, FoundAnimals microchips, etc. We are able to easily record animal names, intake dates and reasons, ages, spay/neuter information, vaccination and treatment information, memos, and file uploads. A friendly and responsive support team is also one of the best parts of ShelterLuv! There was a lot of human error involved in porting over our historic records from past adoptions, and the team is always so kind in helping re-import records that have incorrect intake/outcomes. Cons There's not a lot to dislike. I would like to see a diet section, so we can track diet changes, how much offered food is eaten/not, and a customizable field for diet to show up on the kennel cards would be very helpful! This is for our staff and volunteers to see while caring for our animals, and for adopters so they can continue the same feeding amounts and schedule. We also do not have veterinary staff, so a feature to system-generate a vet visit form to populate with information already in the software (name, age, treatment history, which clinic and vet they will be seeing, and reason for vet visit) would be very helpful. We would also like to use the calendar and appointment scheduler, however, it is not possible for us to monitor and reconcile appointment requests when multiple people request the same sign up slot. Shelterluv is a hands down improvement over our former system, not to mention what a pleasant experience it is when I have to contact Customer Service. We bring our foster kittens in every 14 to 21 days for physical exams, vaccines, wormers, etc. As we got used to Shelterluv, we have been hand-writing all the entries on our paper medical records and having volunteers transfer the entries into Shelterluv at the end of each day, a process we followed even before moving to Shelterluv, but never felt comfortable changing. Now that we've used Shelterluv for a year and see how quickly and easily this data can be entered at the time of service, we are going to go paperless and rely solely on Shelterluv. it's that much better to work with. Pros At Kitten Central of Placer County we appreciate the efficiency of Shelterluv and the ways we can configure forms to meet our needs which are somewhat unique in the rescue/shelter/adoption world. Compared to our former system, it is very user friendly. The Help Center is extensive and fully loaded with good, easy to follow solutions; the one trick to finding articles is to get the lingo right. While not exactly software specific, one of the best features of Shelterluv is the Customer Service. The staff is extremely quick to respond. Even if they have to tell me I can't do what I want to do, they suggest optional solutions and work arounds that may help. This kind of response is worth its weight in gold and they are always working at making the system better in response to our inquiries. Cons There are a few processes that feel a little convoluted in the steps that must be taken, though most just take a little getting used to. Here are a few things that are minor in the big picture, but annoying for our needs: We can't configure the main page where it would be helpful to me to see a kitten's sex at a glance without having to open the kitten's file. We need more color and pattern choices, e.g., we get many tabicos, but that isn't an option. Sorting by date or kitten number takes too long. While we can bring up an entire litter by searching for one kitten in the litter, we name our litters - as do most foster organizations - and it would be great to be able to search by litter name or litter number. That's pretty much it. Knowing Shelterluv, most of these will transfer from here to a customer wish list where they will be evaluated to be included in future system changes. Pros I love how easy this product is to use and the visibility on desktop and mobile phones. It's simple to train someone on and for myself to learn more. The customer service is probably the best part of the entire program. Not only do they respond quickly and give feedback/guidance, but they also go out of their way to contact you when something you had an issue with has been updated in the program. Cons The scheduling with fosters and adopters definitely needs a face-lift. It integrates with Google Calendar but if you make changes in Google Calendar it doesn't feed back (subscribe versus integration). It also shows in Pacific timezone and Shelterluv is always the location. I also would like to see Maddie's Pet Assistant feed the weights back into SL from fosters. Pros We previously used PetPoint and it was painful. ShelterLuv was not only easy for volunteers to learn how to use, but most importantly to us as a rescue that is growing in size, SL was there every step of the way to answer our questions. They also didn't pressure us to purchase the product which helped us be comfortable making the switch when we did. It also makes it easy for our adopters to fill out applications at adoption events. We've gone paperless thanks to ShelterLuv. Cons Our only complaint is that while it's easy to use on an iPad etc, there isn't an app so it's hard to use on the phone. Executive Assistant Veterinary Used the software for: Less than 6 months ### "ShelterLuv System" February 17, 2021 5.0 Overall we LOVE ShelterLuv. Our efficiency has increased tremendously, and we haven't even gotten to use the full scope of the system yet. Pros I love the flow of the system. Just a few clicks to process an animal from Intake to Outcome. The tracking capabilities on how to look up previous adopters, the ability to leave internal notes on person records and animal records. I love that they are constantly improving and send updates weekly. Any time I've emailed for help, the responses are quick and informative/helpful. We love it so much so far! Cons There are a few things: Diagnostic tests/Results do not show up on the medical records. There isn't a great way to print what "tasks" are due, and we do not especially care that the adopters can see the animals medical records before we send them the completed version after adoption is complete. That said - anything we have approached ShelterLuv with they are already working on "fixing" and are adding us to the list of everything we have suggested to let us know when that update has been completed. They are very receptive to changes/suggestions! Pros There are many things I love about this software. The ease of use, mobile checkout, batch vaccine entry, and much more. I love that when we have a concern or a request, the team is very responsive. This wonder software is constantly progressing to the ever-changing needs of our life-saving world. Cons Like with all software, there are little things. When we find those things, we send an email and make our feedback known. One thing I would love to see added is a volunteer module. We are trying so hard to grow our volunteer program, and it would be wonderful to have the ability to do that with Shelterluv. One database for all shelter tasks.
