### "Geo HEC-RAS for floodplain Analysis"

January 27, 2023

4.0

I use the software almost daily in my current work experience to manage floodplain analysis projects. The software result is accepted by our clients, city, and regulatory bodies (like TRCA, LSRCA, CLOCA, etc). The floodplain analysis results were used to generate a regulatory floodplain map, cut/fill balance volume calculations, and report writings.

Pros

I like Geo HEC-RAS because I can easily model hydraulic modeling. Lates to import/export HEC-RAS file, CAD drawings, Visualize the HEC-RAS modeling, analysis, and see results. moreover, they have very supportive technical staffs who have rendered their technical support when ever I contacted them.

Cons

No, I don't remember for the time being. I like most of the features.

### "CivilGeo's GeoHECRAS Program Review"

December 16, 2022

5.0

I know for me, (and probably most of the people on my team) would be much less productive if we were doing what we are doing without GeoHECRAS. The user friendliness of the program makes it easy to train new hires not only to know how the program works, but understand the concepts and methods of the work we do. CivilGeo has the best customer service of any company i have ever had to deal with even outside of work.

Pros

The thing I like most is the ease of building a HEC-RAS model from scratch. Shapefiles, terrain DEMs and LandXMLs, World Imagery, CAD files, and Federal data layers can all be brought in and shown in one software to give you every detail of the project area to consider while building the model. Being able to assign points and polylines from different data sources to create stream centerlines, cross sections cutlines, reach lengths, ineffective flow areas, n-values, bank stations, road crossings, etc. Modelling an existing culvert crossing is easy to pick locations off of plan view with survey CAD files right where it needs to be in the model, and a proposed land plan encroachment into the floodplain is easy to incorporate into cross sections through extracting geometry points from a LandXML. Mapping floodplains is also the programs best feature as it can map multiple storm events for multiple reaches using a defined terrain or the top widths from the cross sections. Both floodplain types help us make sure the model outputs are reflected correctly for LOMRs. For someone with a GIS background, not CAD, terrain functions are added tools including generating terrains from the HEC-RAS model, stamping proposed encroachments or cuts into an existing terrain, and also a tool that lets you see the elevation profile of any polyline for any type of terrain data on the fly. Floodplain encroachments for Floodway mapping is a breeze using the tolerance options & the dynamic output summary.

Cons

Editing shapefile polylines/gons is still much easier to do in GIS with access to more tool options. Running HEC-RAS within the software is not my favorite as multiple windows pop up and steal your mouse. The flow file table is transposed from normal HEC-RAS, which takes time to enter flow data for every reach when flows are updated.

### "GeoHECRAS is the BEST"

May 24, 2019

5.0

I do quick studies, where FEMA mapping does not exist, to determine how much of a property is developable for potential developers. I size stream crossings for FEMA “No-Rise” situations. I analyze FEMA floodways where they would be impacted by crossings I size using the software. Mapping is updated by the click of a button for any changes.

Pros

I like the ease of use and fast productivity. I can set up a model from scratch and determine flood elevations in 4 hours. That requires selecting the orthophoto and importing a CAD file to use as a background, importing contours (or LIDAR), turning them into a DTM (which it does very fast), drawing the reach centerline, cutting cross sections, inserting a crossing (if needed), turning on FEMA flood data (FIRM info), determine base flows using USGS Stream Stats inside the software (faster than using a web browser), and I have base flood elevations and floodplain mapping in 4 hours! Technical Support is the best ever! They are always quick to reply to questions with a call. They call periodically to make sure all is well with the software. They provide updated software regularly that makes its use easier.

Cons

I have no complaints. If I ever have a need, they take care of it quickly. They are a pleasure to work with to solve any issues.

Reason for choosing GeoHECRAS

I have used the COE HEC-RAS for years. It is too slow and cumbersome.

### "Easy, Smart and more interactive"

September 9, 2022

4.0

Overall, the software performs well to generate flood extents and other 1D 2D hydraulic simulation for the projects I have worked on.

Pros

GeoHECRAS is more user friendly and enable users to add in more base layers including CAD files, Terrain files etc. Moreover, there are online data library available to setup the model. The interactive interface is very much useful in every step from model generation to preparing the final results. There are different analysis methods built-in with the software and helps to generate more accurate simulation and design analysis.

Cons

Since, it is more interactive with AutoCAD and other data files. It takes more time to load and to run the simulation but still performance well.

### "Save Time and Effort"

December 18, 2018

5.0

I have used the model now for over 4 years, and my experiences have been very positive.

Pros

GeoHECRAS provides the features of HEC-RAS, RAS, HEC-GeoRAS, ArcGIS including the Analysis Add-ons, and AutoCAD in one software package, where you can actually see your model as you develop it, add or remove sections, edit bridges and structures, and plot the floodlines. The model includes all the features of these programs that you require for a complete model in one package.

Cons

I cannot think of any significant drawback in GeoHECRAS. As we issue our wish list to the CivilGeo, they proceed to improve the software.

### "GeoHECRAS Software Customer Review"

January 20, 2019

4.0

The software has allowed our company to provide more detail data for our clients in a more timely and efficient manner. State and Federal regulatory agencies seems to like output generated from detail DEM and LIDAR data.

Pros

The software has capabilities to import maps, photographs, and other features available from online sources. These items save time by making them readily available as a component of the software. The capability to provide georeferenced data is helpful in providing solutions to real world problems easily located on the ground. Numerous features to select data from graphical input or from tabular entry of data are very helpful. The capability to merge DEM data sets with CAD or survey data is very helpful. Support team seems to be available and helpful when needed.

Cons

Program is updated frequently. Installation of the updates was cumbersome for me and required help from the support team. The support team did provide tips on how best to address this issue.

### "What we always wanted Hec-RAS to be"

May 15, 2019

5.0

The whole team at CivilGEO has been great to work with. They have always been very receptive to any additional tools that we've wanted to see in the software and have helped work through any problems we've ever had. Hands down the best technical help that we've had from any hydraulics modeling software that we've used.

Pros

Very easy user interface that combines aspects of GIS and CAD into one single platform. GeoHECRAS makes modifying the geometry data of your RAS models simple and seamless which substantially reduces the time it takes to build or modify and existing model. Most importantly though they added an undo button!

Cons

Occasional software bugs may affect productivity but their IT staff is always very responsive and typically fixes and bugs within days.

Useful in updating older models and in creating reasonable hydraulic models.

Pros

Relatively easy to use. Easily interfaces with HECRAS. Registering older unregistered HECRAS models to a coordinate system and aligning the stream to the physical world is easy to do.

Cons

Needs current scour calculator. The current calculator is based on an older version of the scour method currently used by FHWA.

### "Excellent HEC-RAS interface, with LIDAR processing ability and great tech service."

August 8, 2022

5.0

GeoHEC-RAS has all the reliability and advantages of the HEC-RAS program, with several crucial extra features. These extras features have saved time and money for our company and clients on countless projects. The savings and convenience caused us to switch and the friendly, responsive tech service has kept us as loyal GeoHECRAS customers.

Pros

GeoHECRAS combines an easy-to-use HEC-RAS interface with the ability to use field survey data and use and process LIDAR. I have found the tech service to be fast, friendly, and responsive. If you have any issues or want to see a new feature, just let them know. I have been using GeoHECRAS regularly for over seven years. I have seen several of my requested features and fixes incorporated into the program. Switching from HEC-RAS to GeoHECRAS is easy and intuitive, since it the workflows are similar and the hydraulic engine is the same. GeoHECRAS models can be easily exported to HEC-RAS format when necessary (or when the client requires it).

Cons

I have used GeoHECRAS regularly for over 7 years and have run into a few problems here and there. Sometimes the problem was with the program, sometimes with my settings or data. Either way, tech service takes care of it quickly, usually within a few hours. When using GeoHECRAS, I generally find that the most annoying things are native to the HEC-RAS engine rather than the GeoHECRAS interface.

### "GeoHECRAS Version 3 Review"

August 16, 2021

5.0

GeoHECRAS is absolutely fantastic. We use it for all of our floodplain modelling projects and ensure our staff is fully trained in using it. The greatest advantage of using GeoHECRAS is their technical support team. They offer, without any doubt, THE BEST technical support for any software our company uses. The GeoHECRAS team is responsive and exceptionally helpful. Their technicians know their software well, often know the requirements of our reviewing agencies, and are constantly on call to answer your questions or help you with challenges. Training to use GeoHECRAS is very easy because their technical support team will help you at every step (something not very common for most software companies). Where most technical support teams will require you to post questions to an online forum, GeoHECRAS's technical help team will provide direct phone support and even remote access assistance to help you with your modelling. We have never waited for response from their team, they are there to help you immediately, when you need it. This help has been absolutely invaluable to our firm.

Pros

GeoHECRAS's ability to setup HEC-RAS model have been by far the most impactful for our company. Models that would have taken weeks to create can be constructed in days. The productivity gain over standard HEC-RAS is immense. The range of tools for creating models quickly is incredible - from using CAD/shapfiles to setup river networks to drawing in cross-sections and extracting their geometry from terrain files. GeoHECRAS keeps you organized and maintains all spatial extents/distances for you automatically. We extensively work with CAD and GIS files, so GeoHECRAS integrated extremely well with our company's workflow. CAD files can be directly imported into GecHECRAS and used to create streams, cross-sections, and elevation terrains. All GeoHECRAS models and results can be exported back to CAD and shapefiles easily to be included in report figures.

Cons

GeoHECRAS interface can at times be a little slow when working with very large and complex files. We do a lot of work remotely through network servers. GeoHECRAS often requires models to be saved locally for the software to function optimally.

Reason for choosing GeoHECRAS

The main reason we remain GeoHECRAS customers, aside from the great software they offer, is due to their exceptional technical support. In my opinion, they provide the best technical support in the industry.

### "Good but could have been better "

September 15, 2022

4.0

Pros

One of the best features is that GIS is already integrated in the software. This saves time from bringing in GIS data from scratch. It has a digital terrain cross section feature that allows you to review model without any hassle. Floodway and floodplain mapping is relatively easy compared to similar software.

Cons

This software need you to have basic understanding of HECRAS modelling. You have to have prior knowledge in order to learn. You can not just pick up and learn it. Company has less training resources available for users
