December 2, 2025 5.0 I started using paypal ever since the early days of Ebay. I have always had a good experience with using Paypal. It can handle global currencies as well have off a bit of customer support/security for your purposes. Pros It handles payment processing really well. I accepts MC/VISA/AMEX. I love how it can sent a few prompts and it will accept a variety of pay types. It really makes it easy for me to build a script to extract and use the payment info Cons Can be as nosey about what the purchases are of, like the credit card companys. One of my biggest beef areas has been with AI renders. Paypal will not accept payments for certain places due to the possibility of rendereding NSFW content. This does seenm a bit nosy. When using a platform like PayPal, you are simply integrating your business into theirs. You don’t have to do a lot of buildout simply customize the PayPal platform to align with your needs. I like the additional features that they roll out such as PayPal cash for customers that they can use at your store, the customer will receive a receipt when checking out, there’s already branding that you can add to your platform that allows you to align with the PayPal brand as a trusted business owner. Pros I like that I was able to integrate PayPal into my Shopify account. More importantly, I also like that I was able to customize my PayPal home screen to align with my branding. More importantly, I like that I’m able to obtain a PayPal card so that the funds can remain in my PayPal account and I can use the money as needed. I also like the protections that both the buyer and the seller received when using PayPal. In addition, I like that PayPal already has features such as paying Pay In 4 that the customer can use when making purchases with my business. Cons To get PayPal exactly how I wanted to set up with my Shopify. I did have to do some very basic coding, but that is the only thing that I would say I dislike about the platform. July 20, 2021 5.0 As a young company with typical issues of cost vs benefit, PayPal has been our partner as we grew from a little "mom and pop" business, to the largest worldwide manufacturer of sporting good products in a niche market. Years and years ago the "PayPal Verified" logo on our website was a big selling point for our products from our perspective and from the perspectives of our customers. The additional bells and whistles that PayPal offers to its clients is just as highly prized as that PayPal Verified logo was. The PayPal platform integrates almost seamlessly with our other e-systems. PayPal isn't manufacturing our niche sporting goods products, but they certainly know the business needs of their clients. A silly, simple example - the PayPal Virtual Terminal function - this enhancement that occurred a few years ago was like heaven. I shopped for credit card processing systems that would be a good fit for a small company. We tried a few different, highly respected banking institutions to process our credit card sales. Pre- PayPal our credit card processors made more money of electronic transactions than we made as the manufacturer of a product! Enter PayPal - Viola! We know exactly what credit card processing will cost us. We can budget accordingly and price our products at a reasonable level - no more ridiculous price increases just so we could accept credit cards. We have a webmaster now, and HE likes working with PayPal Commerce! Pros We have used various iterations of PayPal since our first website almost 20 years ago. We were a small, young company with limited programming and commerce platform experience and expertise. PayPal customer support has been there every step of the way. Our growth and corporate expansion would not have been so dramatic were it not for PayPal technology and a truly committed, savvy workforce. All online "help" functions have been well written and easy to follow, and when our knowledge required more intensive help, PayPal personnel have been easy to reach, easy to understand. PayPal personnel follow up after integration of PayPal systems and they want to know how they can improve - their follow up has always been about serving us, not just reaching out to garner a useless 5-star review. Cons I can't provide a meaningful area for improvement. I literally feel as though PayPal commerce anticipates my needs before I even know I need help. There have been instances where I thought, it would be so nice if I could do XXXX with this platform. I go to the help menu, and there is already a report format that does exactly what I had hoped for. And if the online help function isn't sufficient due to my lack of expertise, there is always a human literally only a phone call away. I cannot emphasize how grateful I am of this kind of support. I would happily pay twice the amount of my current fees, just to keep this support going - tho I don't want pricing to go up too much. PayPal is a HUGE bang for the buck! PayPal supports more than 13 different currencies, allowing us to send and receive money from anywhere in the world. Making a Paypal account is simple; all you need to do is register, just like when you sign up for a website. PayPal offers the option to link your bank account with your paypal account, allowing you to transfer funds from your paypal balance to your bank account. Money sent to us from other countries can be received immediately and without any delays. Pros What I love out about PayPal is that I can feel safe sending a new manufacturer money, knowing that they will protect me if something goes wrong, which it has. They have FANTASTIC customer care and just about everything I need as an online business owner, and I feel comfortable using every feature, which I did not feel using other commerce platforms in the past. PayPal has become my go to place for purchasing samples, inventory, invoicing, payment processing, rebates, and just about everything e-com related. Cons There are only two things I would say are inconvenient about using PayPal for my commerce: 1.) It's kind of a pain when you have to change an address. You have to go through several different tabs and change everything manually, as well as each and every business card, however, it could just be that I am not aware of a faster way. 2.) Using it on my sales funnels forces the buyer to login with each upsell. I have one funnel that has 3 different one time offers, and if they choose to do all 3, they would have to log in 4 times. This could also be due to the sales funnel platform though, so it may not specifically just be PayPal. Most times this disconnect is not understood until weeks into post sale. We have a very liberal return policy to account for this complexity. Pros I manage an e-commerce site which accepts all forms of traditional credit cards and PayPal for customer checkout. I deal daily with the big 3 processors and PayPal and to say the differences are oceans apart is an understatement. PayPal's customer support and processes are the gold standard in the online payment processing world. You get the right answer the first time every time. Their payment and refund policies are fair, accurate, and timely. They are a pleasure to do business with. Cons My only complaint about PayPal is that not enough consumers utilize their service. Fees are very reasonable, transfers of available funds from your PayPal account into your bank are free and lightning quick (for me it is either ACH transfer for free and in the account in the morning, or they send it through my debit card, 1% fee, but instant deposit to my checking account). When starting a business there is already a vast array of critical components all vying for your attention and dollars, so start off at least with PayPal for simple ease of use. Add PayPal Checkout to your checkout page as a payment option and voila you even have a built-in financing system customers may opt to use via their PayPal Credit Account - an account that is rather easy to qualify for as well and offers financing deals so you don't have to! This gives them every reason to go ahead and just do it - and you just made another sale. Pros PayPal Checkout is an easy way to offer another very popular payment option to that all important checkout page on your website. Keep them on task, checking out, and you making that sale, so they don't meander off your page and end up making their purchase elsewhere. Cons This method does on some devices limit consumer choice for their PayPal to charge the account they want, i.e. limit on number of cards displayed and/or limiting ability to add a new payment method without going to PayPal's site. Cons Like most PayPal branches, customer service leaves a lot to be desired. At best, I'll say they at least answer when contacted at least 2x. At worst, it takes a minimum of 2x to be answered & even when you finally do get a response it's only after waiting a crazy amount of time, typically whatever issue you need help with is either resolved on its own or it's status changed from bad to extremely terrible regardless. Cons The only thing lacking in my humble opinion is the ease with which in Brazil the competitor has Pagseguro or Mercado Livre to be able to pay in installments. PayPal has provided me the greatest convenience in transacting and this has revolutionized the way I earn and conduct my business. Pros Ever Since I discovered and started using PayPal, the way I conduct my business has been positively impacted and to be honest this is an understatement. PayPal has enabled me to receive payment from far away places that I have never dreamt of connecting with financially and this has opened a lot of doors. What excites me the most is how it is very easy to sign up, just a few clicks and I'm already transacting. Its just a dream come true, hassles are almost non existent. Cons Although I absolutely adore this software, I wish PayPal would expand into other countries especially third world countries which are mainly marginalized. I had an expirience where I wanted to create and use an account while I was in my African native land only to find out that PayPal services don't reach that place. The second con stems from the fact that there are a limited options on banks which I can link my Paypal with for easier withdrawals. Currently where I am there is only one bank which does this so it would be better and much more convenient if the platform could be expanded in these directions.
