April 22, 2021 4.0 Overall, for professionalism, I still do recommend PayPal for invoicing. A business account with your business' name requesting payment looks much more professional than other alternatives. If you don't care about the professionalism, though, I recommend using another money-sending program such as (forementioned) CashApp or Venmo. Sure, it may sound strange for you to ask a customer to send you money via one of those apps, but you won't have to deal with any of the obnoxious fees, or wait times. Pros I decided to try out PayPal Invoicing when I was doing freelance graphic design about a year ago. At the time, I didn't have any other way of receiving money, but I had a PayPal, and easily switched it over to a business account and began sending invoices. It's really easy to use, and looks much more professional than asking someone to "CashApp" or "Venmo" you money. Cons The fees, the fees, the fees. With PayPal, they charge you for so many things, it gets a little ridiculous. On top of the fees they charge, sometimes you'll have to wait weeks for your money to actually be available, meaning if you're in a tight spot, it's a risk to send an invoice with PayPal. She wanted an easy way to create and store invoices so that she'd be able to do her taxes more easily this year. She went straight to PayPal Invoice, because she already uses PayPal to process her orders online from her website. Ever since I've helped her with a lot of the backroom finance and inventory type stuff, I've seen first hand how essential PayPal Invoice has been for her. Pros The best part about using PayPal Invoicing is obviously the seamless transition it provides straight from sales and revenue processing through PayPal itself. Cons Confirming all the paperwork for my girlfriend's new business was a bit of a hassle with PayPal proper, and we couldn't get everything set up with PayPal Invoice until that part was set up, so things took a bit longer than expected. It sends the invoice directly to the customer and allows them to pay it directly. If I need to send reminders to the customer, it's a single click to send a reminder to a customer. It's my favorite invoicing system to use. It allows you to edit your invoices as well and update them as needed. Cons There aren't many negatives to this. It's intuitive and easy to use. I think there are better invoicing systems but none that clients trust more than Paypal. Pros What really stands out to me is that users have options to pay directly with their PayPal balance, credit, debit, or bank transfer. Other apps typically only allow credit/debit cards, but with PayPal the customer has options. Plus, if they want to pay with an external system like Transferwise, they can still do that if you allow it. Cons PayPal's customer support is really lacking and difficult to get ahold of. Sometimes it would be nice to actually reach someone. Particularly, as I do comparable work, the duplicat invoice feature is quite useful. Cons Sometimes creating invoices from scratch is not as smooth. It's also a safe and private method since it can be done through their email. Pros This seems intimidating to use at first, but it's so easy. Everything is set up and organized in sections for you to just fill out already. The sections are basically labeled as specific things you'd normally see in a transaction like price, item description, their email, and etc. My customers can easily and safely pay with mostly any form of payment when they're ready when the invoice is sent to their email. Cons It took me a while how to find out how to edit my seller information. Sometimes I don't want to show my customer my full name and just want my business name to be shown. Pros I greatly enjoy that it is easy to navigate from the PayPal home screen, put in the payees' information and amount with the option to preview before sending. A payment link is also available for those who don't have PayPal. Cons Invoicing on the site itself is easy but when you choose to "Send via PayPal" the invoice often does not go through. Pros Invoicing is so easy to use, we do "one-off" and recurring billing/invoicing for all of our customers thru the PayPal system. Customizing, adding tax, shipping and / or terms is user friendly. The invoices look professional. I really like the fact that you can ask for a deposit and let your client a minimum amount and it records the payment. When you are ready to ask for the balance, resending the invoice with a personal message makes it easy for them to have a clear record of their payment. I also love receiving notifications when you get paid. Pros What I like most about using the software is that I already have clients using PayPal and if they don't it doesn't matter when they use invoicing with PayPal as they can pay with any major credit card. Cons When using templates is great. Just make sure to save with blank sections so you don't have to replace information in fields from information used on a prior invoice. Review Source AA Ashlee A. I frequently use this app to create quick invoices for my customers. With just a few clicks and I can prepare a clear and concise pdf invoice, have PayPal send it out and I don't have to worry about a thing. Cons Sometimes I find it a bit time consuming to fill out the itemized portion of the invoice. I wish there was an easier way to do it without having to first create an individual line item service or product which I have to go back and select to save to my invoice.
