### "The fastest lightweight text editor for large files and quick edits"

January 15, 2026

5.0

While I use full IDEs for my development jobs, I keep Sublime Text running in parallel for my other tools: note-taking (quick notepad), regex replacement, and the analysis of heavy server logs. I love Sublime for its dependability, minimalist design, and speed.

Pros

The performance is second to none. It opens immediately and works with huge log files (size in GBs) without crashing, a problem other IDEs have. The Multi-Edit / Multi-Cursor tool is a Godsend for immediate refactoring or working with data lists.

Cons

Unless you have bought a license, the 'Unregistered' alert that pops up every so often can be irritating. Furthermore, compared to the current extension market places available with VSCode, using Package Control to manage plugins seems dated and less user-friendly than current systems.

### "Fast and very effective"

December 5, 2025

5.0

Pros

Sublime Text was my code editor of choice for many years, I still haven't found anything that opens as fast this does!

Cons

The only reasons I switched away was for more detailed debugging that an IDE gives you, especially for C#.

### "powerhouse for developers who prioritize speed and efficiency"

September 25, 2025

5.0

Sublime Text remains a powerhouse for developers who prioritize speed and efficiency. The AI plugin ecosystem has breathed new life into it, making code completion and assistance surprisingly good. Perfect for quick edits and power users.

Pros

Blazing fast performance, excellent multiple cursors, and seamless AI plugin integration. Tools like GitHub Copilot and ChatGPT plugins work flawlessly without slowing down the editor. The lightweight design means AI assistance feels instant and responsive. Good community support.

Cons

Requires manual plugin setup for modern features. While AI plugins work well, they need separate installation and configuration compared to built-in solutions.

### "Perfect cross platform IDE"

August 26, 2025

5.0

Pros

Sublimt text is my goto text editor for basic programming, while it does not have the frills of VS Code and the Storm IDEs it is light weight and super fast, works the same on any platform and is great for web.

Cons

Plugin directory at times is lacking, but this is less of a complaint about the product and just the community as a whole being smaller

### "Simple and effective IDE if you know what you are doing"

July 1, 2025

5.0

Good IDE, used it for a while before deciding to switch. Works great out of the box, is super lightweight, but no longer as powerful as the competition

Pros

Simple to use and does not need any fancy bells and whistles. Pretty lightweight and has great community support

Cons

A lot of the good features are paid. Not as feature rich as vs code. Requires plugins for a lot of tasks and also has a high learning curve

### "Sublime Text, meilleur éditeur de texte"

February 16, 2025

4.0

Pros

### "Review on Sublime Text"

November 19, 2024

4.0

I’ve been using the Sublime Text editor for nearly 3 years, mainly for creating, reading, and updating JSON files. It offers plenty of keyboard shortcuts, making navigation, editing, and manipulating JSON files quick. I also find it convenient that Sublime allows multiple files to be opened in separate tabs.

Pros

I like using Sublime Text because it's fast and has a user-friendly interface.

Cons

It has been my favorite editor. But after Mac OS was updated I am experiencing problems with some functionalities. I can't save a file in JSONL format, it always saves files in JSON. I tried to fix it in different ways but nothing helps. Also, the shortcut for the Pretty JSON format stopped working.

### "Good tool, maybe a bit overpriced if you are just starting and you have valid free alternatives!"

October 15, 2025

4.0

As I said, the experience I had is quite limited to a specific case, but I enjoyed it! I would certainly use it again!

Pros

The free version was enough to help me in a project, thanks to its specific and extended flavour of Regex: i managed to edit a large file where I needed a very precise way to identify a difficult part for "bulk" editing! Also, it's fast!

Cons

Maybe the price is not so affordable, if compared to other valid free alternatives, like Visual Studio Code!

Pros

### "Change the way of your coding "

April 24, 2023

5.0

I have a great experience as a starter with sublime however i have used many more IDEs after but sublime was and is awesome and time saving for me. Its pre-defined library helps me to write my code very fast and complete it soon.

Pros

I like the editing permission, even sometime it can happen a code can be mixed by any mean from my own-self or any damaged in my long term works. Sublime is easy for me i don’t need to write all the text of code and style sheet word by word it will define and detect my entry for any possible suggestion which is an ease in my tasks and time saving environment.

Cons

Just i was denied access for my own file once which will put us into question after searching for a way online i figured out to access my data. else i don’t see anything that i would like least about sublime.

Reason for choosing Sublime Text

I see no alternative product compare to sublime in its own kind.

### "Perfect JavaScript IDE"

September 5, 2019

5.0

For coding frontend is the first option, very fast, no high CPU/RAM consuming, so I'm very happy that I discovered 7 years ago and I daily continue using it. I have to say that first time you work with it, you need to install some extensions and configure it in the way you like to work, this can take a few hours, but after that annoying time you will be happy with the performance.

Pros

This tool is not overloading your CPU or RAM. This is one of the biggest problems I see in other IDEs. First time you install it, you can see that design is very simple and the application run very quick. It is easy to find any file or text in all the project with no delay. I like the way the bars are differenciated. Left menu, files opened and the position in the current file at the right left pane. The last is very helpful to have an idea of the size of the code. The base default colors are great so you maybe don't need to adjust a lot, however the visual aspect configuration can be modified with a lot different options. Automatically it is giving different colors to the some special keywords, comnets, statements, parameters... and also you can select these colors. The background in black with such rest of colors is very nice! Also the typography is very clear. The folder structure is not a mess of folders, so you have a small separation between all of them, different icons for the tipe of file and the background is grey to differenciate it from the rest of the screen where you have the code. You can install several plugins but first you need to install the Package Control. Then with Ctrl + Sifht + P, you can start typing the plugin you desire and all them are appearing. Finally it is only needed to select it to be installed. In my case, I'm using it for coding frontend but it is possible to code any kind of programming language.

Cons

I didn't like that the program came with a Package Installer by default and I had to install the Package Control. However in the offitial page everything is documented and well explained. There are a lot of extensions to install so when you are trying to find one it could be good to have a kind of sorting by ranking of best valued.

### "A powerful integrated development environment for developers"

February 14, 2023

5.0

Sublime Text is a lightweight and customizable code editor that offers a range of productivity features and extensive support for different programming languages. While it may have a learning curve and limited project management features, it is well-regarded for its speed, flexibility, and extensive ecosystem of plugins and packages, making it a popular choice for developers across a range of skill levels and platforms.

Pros

1) Sublime Text is a lightweight code editor, which means that it loads quickly and uses minimal system resources, making it ideal for use on older or less powerful hardware.2) The editor includes a range of productivity features like multiple selections, split editing, and automatic code completion, which can help developers work more efficiently and effectively.3) Sublime Text is available on Windows, macOS, and Linux, making it a versatile option for developers who work across multiple operating systems or who frequently switch between them.4) Sublime Text offers an extensive range of plugins and packages, many of which are community-contributed, that can be easily installed and used to extend the editor's functionality and support for different languages.

Cons

\- Sublime Text's interface and syntax can take some time to learn, especially for new users who are not familiar with the editor's unique features and customization options.

### "Sublime Text - Super light and convenient text editor"

November 15, 2019

4.0

In general is a great text editor, including my favorite, especially for the lightness, because it opens super fast and does not lock during use. In addition to the available features there is the possibility of installing plugins with additional features in this way to further enhance and improve this editor, the only thing I miss very much eg the automatic generation of getters and setters has plugins to assist in this process, but do not automatically generate all the getters and setters you need, but just bring a body for you to complete by entering the correct attribute names you want to get the getters and setters;

Pros

\- Lightweight interface, loads the project very quickly; - Leaves the colored text according to the file extension, which makes reading very attractive; - Ability to apply functions by shortcut .: ctrl + p to search by filename; ctrl + s to save; ctrl + / to comment, in which case you still enter the comment according to the file type, where if .sql is -, if .js or .php is //, etc; - Set and save specific text layout and editing preferences in general, such as erasing spaces when saving, editor style and font size, etc; - Allows you to apply various types of search filters: searching all files, only files of a certain length, for a regular expression, and this is very useful as it saves you a lot of time when making bulk selections and edits in project files; - Possibility to edit several lines of code simultaneously. - View in two tabs or more within the same project, being able to see two files side by side; - Identify with markups which file you have edited but not yet saved, when working with GIT this is very useful; - There is the option to install additional features via plugins, and there are several plugins ready with extra features for this editor; - If you started creating a file but did not save it before closing the editor, no problem, because opening it again will still be there, which is very useful when you want to have a draft-only file and notes, and if you want to keep it for a while with the project, but you don't want to save it, because then it no longer

Cons

\- Do not open two projects at the same time, when requesting to open a new project the current project is closed; - Has no spell checker; - Okay, it's a text editor, not an IDE, but it could have the capabilities to automatically generate entity getters and setters; - No console for direct interaction with code execution. That's not why I won't stop using it, but it may be a feature that may be available in some future release.

### "The most effective, powerful and sophisticated text editor that exists."

May 14, 2019

5.0

Thanks to Sublime Text I can work in my development projects quickly and efficiently allowing me to finish them in record time, recycle code for reuse and modify projects easily increasing my productivity and income.

Pros

With Sublime Text I can create any type of project without limitations of programming language or framework thanks to its thousands of packages available either for website development projects through HTML code or in application projects with PHP, Python or Pearl, I can also work on projects with other languages such as Java, Ruby, MySQL and others, with Sublime I have the ability to move quickly through the documents of the entire project with its "GOTO ANYTHING" function or with the “GOTO DEFINITION" which generates an index of all the classes of the project, also through its multiple selection I can make all the changes I want in different areas of the document at the same time saving me a lot of time, the COMMAND PALETTE allows me to change the syntax automatically just looking for the one I want to navigate through the menus, thanks to its documents division function I can use my screen in an incredible way, allowing me to visualize several files at the same time and compare code or look for possible errors in them, I can also change instantaneously the projects in which I work without complications and without losing progress in which I am closing, It should be noted that Sublime Text is the text editor with the best performance that I have used and it is cross-platform since I can use it on Windows, Mac and Linux. For this and much more the most effective, powerful and sophisticated text editor that exists.

Cons

There is nothing I can say, it is just the best.

### "Your Key To Success: SUBLIME TEXT EDITOR"

February 15, 2023

4.0

During my past years, i was a student and a software developer which made me very close with sublime. I used the free version and the paid version, but all i have seen is that Sublime is a great text editor and from it, i have realized that it can be even the most efficient according to many other text editor softwares around but also when used with enough skills and great environment like good performing computer.

Pros

Sublime is a one of the world best text editor which i can recommend due to how it is easy to get and download and installation is very fast. when it comes to the prices, sublime have a free version which doesn't have limit during it's evaluation but only allowed to create limited project but the licenses are also at a very low cost. I used it in 2 years of university and when I was developing my final school website as project. Switching from one project to another and customized colors is one of the coolest features that you don't want to miss. have I said about it's API? they work very fine and give you ability to interact with other plugins!

Cons

Like all other software, Sublime also have both sides like not being a free software because, some users don't have the ability to pay for the license which may be a limit to their project. The other thing i saw is about slow working when it comes to dealing with large files all opened at once but i guess they will improve in next versions.

Alternatives considered

Reason for choosing Sublime Text

The reasons why i choose Sublime over Atom are many like atom being the heavier in size hence the slowest when it comes to performance, the fact that atom is an open-source which can make it hackable and the way atom is lighter that sublime but lags when it comes to switching between files.

### "A customizable IDE for everyday coding"

December 10, 2019

4.0

I started using Sublime about 5 years ago. I saw it as an upgrade over notepad/notepad ++. I have enjoyed watching it grow and the features increase. In the last year or two new IDE's have come out. They have massive feature sets, and many are great tools. I have not been able to leave the comfort of Sublime 3. I have attempted to use some of these other massive programs. Only to find them to be a massive bottleneck on some of our older systems/small VM ware instances. I have found it nearly impossible to embrace an alternative as I would not be able to use that alternative in every environment that I work. I am a huge fan of Sublime. I do acknowledge that many new IDE's are making this a highly competitive market. If you need a consistent editing experience. You can literally run Sublime off a thumb drive and carry it everywhere with you! Sublime is the most consistent editor I have used.

Pros

I like that is lightweight. It barely uses resources. It boots in a flash. It is great on multiple OS's. No matter if I am on OSX/Linux/Windows I can have my familiar editing experience with me. It has extensive plugin options. You can customize the software in a flash using the built-in command-line style extension loader.

Cons

The system for installing extensions is great and easy, but it is not robust on features. You need to do your homework outside of sublime to figure out if it is the right extension for you. You also need to consult these outside websites to even get a good picture of what all extension options are out there.

### "Great Text Editor With A Few Issues"

January 30, 2022

4.0

Overall, my experience with Sublime Text has been positive. I would say that the reason I did not give it a perfect rating is because how frustrating it is when the software has to update. Feels like there is never a stable release. I have really tried to replace Sublime Text, but the stuff is does correctly, I feel like no other text editor can match. It's undoubtedly my favorite editor. If you're big on building regex and quickly modifying code, you really will not regret this editor.

Pros

As a person that is looking at code daily, Sublime Text make a big impact in my productivity and efficiency when coding. I will preface by saying that Sublime is my favorite text editor, despite some of it's issues. One of my favorite aspects of Sublime that outshines all other text editors is the way it does regular expressions (regex). With keyword matching on the fly and you can quickly build and match any regex you create. I also enjoy the feature for syntax highlighting and the ability to customize how Sublime looks; being able to customize your font, color schemes, and key bindings. I also really like that you can see the entirely of your code on the right pane, this is awesome. If you are looking for a solid, free, text editor, give Sublime Text a try!

Cons

Every great piece of software comes with some minor issues or things the developers can improve. Here are some of my least favorite things of Sublime Text. As great as Sublime is, it is no stranger to bugs. Over the last few years of using Sublime, I can say that one con of the software is the constant updates. Yes, updates are good, but it surely feels like Sublime has an update a few times a month. This can be very frustrating! I've also seen where Sublime bugs out and fails to update, no matter what you do. This means you have to uninstall it, find the latest software on their sites, and install it again. I also don't like that Sublime does not have a syntax highlighting package for Powershell. I mean, it's one of the biggest languages in the world. In order to install it, I had to find a random command in the web, plug it in the package manager, and then install it. It sucks having to do this when you have a new computer. Aside from this, the pros highly outweighs the cons and you should consider this text editor.

Switched from

[Notepad++](https://www.capterra.com/p/185965/Notepad/)[Visual Studio Code](https://www.capterra.com/p/186634/Visual-Studio-Code/)

The above software are good, but they have awkward find-and-replace window placement, while others can't find on the fly. I think they are good for people that need a text editor, but when you start to code and build rapidly, they are not as efficient as Sublime Text.

### "Good text editor, with a few bells and whistles"

January 14, 2022

4.0

Even though I don't use it as my main text editor, it's my preferred option when I want to make quick changes in small projects. Its clean and simple UI make it easy to work and switch between projects, and I've never had to worry about memory consupmtion. From time to time I miss having an integrated terminal or a debugger, but I really appreciate its minimalist approach; you end up decoupling your development tools, which in consequence boosts your productivity.

Pros

\- it has a clean and intuitive user interface, which makes it easy to use - the UI can be customized with themes and fonts - it has autocomplete and indenting integrated, which boosts your productivity while programming - it has a "projects" feature, which can be helpful if you have to work on multiple projects - it's available in Windows, Mac and Linux - you can extend its functionality with plugins - it's lightweight

Cons

\- the "projects" feature, although helpful, can be a little hard to set up - it doesn't have as many plugins as other text editors such as Visual Studio Code - there is no marketplace for searching and installing plugins - it doesn't have an integrated terminal - it doesn't have an integrated debugger - it doesn't have any kind of integration with version control tools sush as Git - it's not free. Although no features are locked behind a paywall and there's no time limit for the evaluation period, a pop-up appears periodically prompting you to buy a license, which could be bothersome for some people - it's not open source, which some people won't tolerate

### "The best text editor I have used"

January 29, 2019

5.0

I use it everyday to write everything, from random texts for my reports and articles to codes for work.

Pros

Sublime hands down is the best text editor I have ever used. I can speak about its endless features for a day but let's highlight the best ones. - It has the keyboard shortcuts inherited from the classic vim editor. Even one can switch to the vim mode of text editing. - The multi-tab feature (like any browser like google chrome) is very helpful for managing multiple text files. Also it always auto-saves. Saved me a lot of time when the desktop accidentally hanged or my laptop was off due to battery drainage. - The color scheme for multiple programming environments make it a standard IDE for many platforms. The code highlight feature is very helpful. - For the lovers of dark mode or dark screen, this is the text-editor to use. Actually this is the first thing I liked about sublime when I chose it after dumping notepad++ or other editors. - Even codes can be run directly from the editor by connecting the compilers (like gcc or g++) from sublime. - There is a thriving community out there designing cool new themes for sublime. So just download a theme if the look becomes boring! - Finally it is cross-platform! Doesn't matter whether you are in windows, mac or linux, sublime text is free to download and use.

Cons

There is really nothing to dislike except the fact that every time I save a file, there is a pop-up window appearing that that it is a free version and we can pay them to support their development. Although I know this is true, but showing this message everytime is a bit annoying. There are sometimes errors in plugin. So download and install plugins at your own risk. You can always do a fresh installation if things are messed up!
