Pros Really the frontrunner for email service, it’s effective and affordable, there are some issues with it as far as user error, and if you are not great with technology or computer systems, you can have some work stop issues that you may not be able to diagnose. It can also handle small to massive volumes of emails without any performance issues. Cons Amazon SES is not beginner-friendly. It works very well, email deliverability is good, and the cost is great. Pros Great API, well priced, and well integrated into the Amazon Web Services ecosystem. Deliverability is good, and dedicated IP pricing is very low. Cons Support is pretty weak, as with all of AWS. You need to have in-house expertiese to successfully use most AWS services, and SES is no exception. I rarely pay anything every month, and when I do, it's pennies. For me, it was easy to integrate, but for some it could be challenging. Also, the customer support could be a little difficult to use for help. Pros The cheapest way to send thousands of emails every month is using Amazon SES. You get 62000 free emails monthly and after that it's only $0.1/ 1000 emails. No other email provider or mass email manager gives you that luxury. Plus the sending is very reliable and spam control is perfect. Cons If your emails are heavy on graphics or images or files, you'll consume much bandwidth which will cost you some money even in the free tier of sending. However, it's nothing compared to what you will pay for sending thousands of emails with any other provider. The other problem is integrating the service with your website or provider. It might be challenging for some with no knowledge of software or server installation. Pros If you are on AWS, forget about setting up your email relay service and just go with SES. It's a really simple service (it's just like using a common SMTP service) but nowadays sending email has become tricky cause of SPAM, and AWS makes sure their infrastructure and set up reduce the chance of your email becoming SPAM itself. Cons Nothing really, but maybe having a bit more control and insight could have helped a couple times. It's also pretty easy for users to enable their email address to receive emails, which is a good feature to also avoid spam. The CLI and SDKs are also pretty easy to use and implement. Cons The email limits can be pretty small at first, which can be a nuisance when trying to setup internal notification systems. We use it for transactional emails only and so far the lightning fast services at extremely economical price has blown our minds. Pros SES is basically the best email service out there. We find it the most used service out of all of the Amazon Web Services suite. - Extremely cheap, $0.10 for 1000 emails is the cheapest in the industry. - Reliability is top notch. - Unlike other services, our emails don't end up in spam. SES has a great reputation. - Limit increase has to be applied for by support tickets, though the service is very fast. - Emails can base send from servers across the world . - The free quota for EC2 sent emails is great for startups and testing. Cons It can be a little complicated for non-IT professionals to set up. There is a manual support ticket opening process involved to gain production access, this can lengthen the process to start the email services. Managing that email system ourselves was more work than we wanted to deal with. SES is very affordable and relatively easy to use. As mentioned in Cons, my only complaint is with incoming email being either expensive (WorkMail isn't worth the money IMO), complicated (setting up your own income email solution), or messy (mail forwarded with SNS is unformatted and JSON encoded). Pros Setting up an email server is relatively complicated. It's made even worse when dealing with a high volume of outgoing emails. AWS SES makes it much easier than any DIY option out there, giving you the exact DNS records to enter. Cons As with most AWS services, it will take a little learning. Compared to some of their other services though, SES is quite straight forward. I really don't like that there is no simple incoming email forwarding option. It can use SNS to forward a JSON encoded mess, but unless you are using their WorkMail service, receiving mail is still something you'll have to figure out. Review Source BM Bhagya M.
