It is useful sending out multiple emails to clients. Pros Our company has gotten good feedback from our clients from our company's use of Amazon SES for sending transactional emails for our clients. It also blends well with the other Amazon services we use. Cons It takes a significant amount of time to set up some of the features for Amazon SES. Pros Amazon SES is a relatively simple integration despite the need of better documentation, has an very developer-minded logic and allows you to share data to other Amazon AWS services for analytics, monitoring and others. It is the way to go when you want to have bulk email at a fraction of the costs incurred with other competitors. It is extremely reliable and has the Amazon infrastructure to support it. The web console is simple yet provides you with the essentials to monitor the account's health and performance. Cons Having migrated from Mailgun, I really felt the lack of proper development documentation when you are integrating for the first time. The current documentation is not well organized and lacks the developer friendlyness that you can find with competing products. However, this may have to do with a more general, bulk approach that Amazon focuses on. There are different versions of their APIs in the process of being migrated with the newer version being somewhat limited in features compared to the older one. My recommendation is that you get prepared to read a lot and test as you start to implement. I don't think you will be provided with bleeding edge email developments early but the basics will always be covered with Amazon SES. The service simply works, although it's a little complex the first time to setup but once we get used to it (as with anything else in life), it's a little bit of work that is worth it for the price we pay for. Pros Price per 1k emails is incredible. As of this writing, we are talking about $0.10 per 1k emails sent, which is really now. Cons Their support is getting worse. Very recently I had to wait a month until an account from one of our customers was finally approved and then a couple of months later, we had another customer that was rejected for no reason whatsoever and we had to escalate to have it into production. Awesome! Pros What I love the most is "The pricing", it is extremely cheap compared with other massive mailing systems like mail chimp or others. Cons The ease of configuration... You need a little bit of knowledge to configure, and even more knowledge if you want more specific features. Pros Really the frontrunner for email service, it’s effective and affordable, there are some issues with it as far as user error, and if you are not great with technology or computer systems, you can have some work stop issues that you may not be able to diagnose. Cons Easy to get your emails sent to spam by recipients, also had an issue with email bounce backs - if your bounce back/ spam rate gets too high AWS will stop you from being able to sent emails. We send automated emails for billing reasons (invoices, receipts) We send automated emails for claims management We send automated emails to our employees with reports We even use SES to send reports to our departments with all the errors from SES the previous day (like updating email addresses in our system if they bounce) Pros We light how easy it is to setup credentials for our email addresses and send them out. For example, we needed a process which bulk emails many of our insureds and needed a way to easily do this through python. We previously had a self hosted email server we were using but wanted to upgrade to something cloud based and secure. Cons One issue we have had was that we would like to be able to store a copy of the messages we send. We are required to save copies of outbound communications for some of the messaging and we have to get around this by using an email account as an 'archive email'. Nothing major but just something that has come up. Reason for choosing Amazon SES We were already integrated with Amazon for many other projects so we thought it was a nice logical forward. It's simple, stable and fast. Pretty much all you need.. Pros Amazon SES is super straightforward and cheap. You can set it up in no time and it just works. At first your sending limits might be limited but once you have built your reputation and they go up you can send big batches of emails easily. We use it for our marketing automation suites and for our operational messages. Cons Reporting is a little more difficult to setup. It works with other products from Amazon and just isnt as straightforward. You get 62,000 free mail each month if you send mails using EC2 servers. Cons Amazon SES is a great email service but you need to make sure you don't exceed your bounce rate beyond 10% otherwise you will loose your ability to use this service. Also the first 62000 mails are free ,which is great. It is very reliable. very good deliver ability. Once set up it pretty much easy. no work needed later. Cons There aren't that many email templates. And unless you pay you're pretty much on your own. Reason for choosing Amazon SES Because much of our infrastructure has been shifted to AWS.
