But it does take time to learn and understand which workflow works best for you Pros I learnt AutoCad as a student and was able to understand the functionality of the software programme quite quickly. The ease of using Autocad came naturally after leaving my studies. Why?- Line weights are easily adjustable in different layers (you can add as many layers as needed)- Autocad downloads from the internet speed up workflow if you hit a wall- Revisions can be made on the same file when shared to different personel- If you get confused about a tool, theres usually a note at the bottom of the screen telling you what to do- searching for tools are quite easy as well - just type it in Cons \- Understanding the software takes time- Everything needs to be set up first if you want to work quickly i.e line weights, colour, etc) this needs to be done by the user - there is no automation or guide for this- Sometimes the quality of final projects are not great because lines are created individually. Pros What I like most in Autocad electrical is the implementation of the programmable logic controller (PLC)., because most of the work we do and I do in the industry I mostly make us of PLCs for my designs, since it's manufacturing and it involves automation. I like it so much I bought a seat to use at home for my own personal design use. There are other Autodesk programs available that I wish I was involved in, like Inventor, because they look like so much fun! Pros Using Autocad becomes fun when you become used to it. I started out as an old school desk drafter. When Cadvance came to the office in the mid 1980's we saw the value of it but it was clumsy. I left the engineering field for many years and so I missed the growing pains that electronic design and drafting went through. By the time I returned the industry was up to Autocad 2000. While I missed hand drafting, this new generation of electronic drafting/designing made the work a pleasure. Watching it grow over the last 21 years has been like watching your child grow. There is nothing it can't do. It is the state of the art and a pleasure to use! Cons I wish I could provide cons to using this product but honestly offhand I can't think of anything. Like all software it has its glitches and things that don't always work. However the online community of users is huge and the amount of help available is immense. And if any body has to continue the same design, then he wont be in a big trouble because all the things are in separate layers. So, as an electrical engineer, AutuCAD electrical is very much useful when they want to design a SLD (Single Line Diagram) and as well as LPS (Lightning Protection System). Cons The bad thing of this software is we can't snap some lines easier when we designing 3D drawings. Actually it happens because of the dimensions and we can't find the suitable angle. That is a huge bonus for me, I do a lot of same things on daily basis and by creating my own automation extension helps me finish my job faster. Cons Slow to load drawings due to being single core application. It crashes often on me. I have 32GB RAM on my system, Intel core i7 processor with SSD and Nvidia GPU.
