### "Design with freedom"

April 9, 2026

4.0

My overall experience with Designcenter in Solid Edge has been very positive. I use it daily for mechanical design, and I find the environment intuitive, well‑organized, and efficient for managing complex projects. The tools integrate smoothly into the workflow and make it easy to navigate assemblies, components, and related resources. The only drawback is that the system can feel a bit heavy at times, especially with large models, but once everything loads, it performs reliably.

Pros

Solid Edge offers a highly accessible user experience, with an interface and toolset that make daily work efficient and straightforward. Its adaptability is one of its strongest points: the platform integrates well into virtually any mechanical design process, supporting both traditional parametric modeling and more advanced hybrid workflows.

Cons

What I liked least about Designcenter in Solid Edge is that the system can feel a bit heavy at times, especially when working with large assemblies. Once everything loads, it performs well, but initial responsiveness could be improved.

### "Solid Edge is a great universal tool for design and simulation!"

March 27, 2026

5.0

Really enjoying using Solid Edge everyday on my work place. works great and makes life easier having such advanced tools to work with.

Pros

We use Siemens Solid Edge as the backbone of our product and factory development lifecycle, from concept through to commissioning. All machinery layouts, custom equipment designs, and factory expansion models are developed in Solid Edge, allowing us to rapidly iterate designs, validate fit within real-world constraints, and maintain a single, accurate digital representation of our production environment. By integrating Simcenter FLOEFD directly within Solid Edge, we move beyond traditional CAD into simulation-driven design. We actively simulate airflow, temperature distribution, and humidity behaviour across our processing and packaging environments—critical for drying performance, product consistency, and hygiene compliance. This enables us to identify issues such as condensation risk, airflow inefficiencies, and thermal inconsistencies before physical implementation. The value this delivers is substantial: Reduced risk: Problems are identified and solved digitally before capital is committed or equipment is installed. Faster decision-making: Design iterations that would take weeks physically are completed in hours. Optimised performance: Equipment and facility layouts are engineered for real operating conditions, not assumptions. Cost efficiency: Minimises rework, avoids overdesign, and improves ROI on major capital investments. Scalable digital foundation: As we expand, our full factory exists as a validated digital twin, supporting future automation, upgrades, and process optimisation. In short, Solid Edge combined with FLOEFD allows us to design smarter, de-risk faster, and execute expansion projects with a level of confidence and precision that would not be achievable with CAD alone. The UI has been greatly improved in its feel and operation. Making it more modern and user friendly. Really happy about the dark mode addition as well. In overall the performance has improved on the operation of the software. Enjoying the performance mode it has to offer. Pricing is ok but feel like better options and bundles should be created to allow for adding more employees easier. The Siemens Academy use to be the go to but needs more work done, cannot wait for the revamp to be completed. There are tons of resources online that are helpful when required. New AI features are really helpful for speeding up daily use! Keep adding more please!

Cons

Multithreading can be improved a lot on simulations as full hardware usage does not seem to be utilized.

### "The Review of Solid Edge "

January 1, 2023

3.0

It's a helpful program for both beginners and experts because it's incredibly simple, quick, and easy to create with.

Pros

The software efficiently designs and models components and assemblies, and it operates quickly and smoothly. Solid Edge is simpler to use and learn to use when compared to other CAD software. In order to prevent mistakes during production, we can generate designs in two dimensions and analyze them. If we have any problems, their customer service is excellent. The drawing options are excellent, and quick, high-quality sketches are created. The support team in Australia is excellent, and the software is more robust and stable than some other brands. The finest CAD software for beginners is Solid Edge because of its user-friendly interface and simple-to-understand functionality. You can create 2D to 3D designs with ease.

Cons

The thing that definitely truly bothered me the most when using the software was that all of my features and assemblies were based off of my parent sketch when I was constructing an assembly in the "ordered environment." As you are aware, designs have changed. My assembly would either not change when I updated or changed my sketch, or, more frequently, it would just explode up. I would have to update it manually, which would take hours of labor. This occurred during sizable assemblies.

### "SOLIDEDGE - EASY TO USE AND POWERFULL"

April 9, 2026

5.0

Solid Edge makes 3D design surprisingly simple. The intuitive interface and powerful Synchronous Technology let you push, pull, and edit models instantly — no complex history trees, no frustration. Whether you're a beginner or a pro, everything feels natural and fast. CAD the way it should be: powerful, yet effortless.

Pros

INTERFACE AND FEATURES - how it combines parametric and direct modeling, allowing them to make instant changes to geometry without worrying about a complex history tree. This makes editing and working with imported files incredibly fast and flexible.

Cons

WEAK PDM SOLUTION - While Solid Edge excels at CAD modeling, its PDM solution is widely considered the weakest link. Users consistently report that the built-in data management feels like an afterthought rather than an integrated system.

### "Engineering manager review for solid edge for CAD design"

December 26, 2024

5.0

For over 13 years, I have relied on Solid Edge throughout my career, finding its user-friendly interface very useful in creating 3D models for new parts, sheet metal components, assembly of complex structures, welments and drafting. Solid edge delivers consistently on the functionality I need

Pros

Its intuitive design streamlines my workflow, making it easier to bring intricate designs to life and ensuring precision in each and every project. This software has been a pillar as a professional toolkit, enhancing productivity and creativity.

Cons

Solid Edge has a Simulation tool within it, which is not used to its full capability. This may be due to less focus towards Simulation. Solid Edge should enhance its Simulation capabilities to enable users to quickly perform checks and comprehensive analysis. Improvements could include faster meshing, better structural analysis, and enhanced interoperability with other simulation tools.

### "Best All Round 3D Software that you can own outright"

December 13, 2022

4.0

Solid edge in my opinion would be more successful if they lowered the price slightly, offered a 2 year free maintenance period, and then ask you as new features come out about a 1 off fee. There are lots of small businesses who would prefer to own the software.

Pros

I own it. Yes it needs a maintenance fee for upgrades, but if i had no intention of ever upgrading the software then there are no ongoing fees. Inventor is a 365day user license. I am not a fan of those programs.

Cons

If you do want to upgrade from say ST8 to ST11 or some thing like that, they make you pay the maintenance fees for the years you didn't use it. That to me is outrageous. They should treat you like a new customer and just pay a one off new software fee.

I use it every day. So far, I have not encountered any serious problems in operation.

Pros

The software is easy to use, very intuitive, even if you switch from another programming. A lot of options that facilitate fast drawing.

Cons

Some options could work better. For example, cutting several shapes at once in the model - when using the cut tool. Maybe I don't like it because I used to work with other software before and it worked differently.

### "Great starter CAD program"

August 8, 2020

4.0

It was my first step into CAD, and while it was tough to do anything at first, I came away from it with the ability to make all sorts of ideas come to life on my screen. This is a good tool for anyone who needs to get into CAD.

Pros

You can create custom parts in solid edge and have them made and shipped to you with all sorts of different materials to choose from. If you know what you are doing, you can design things of incredible complexity by stringing together part files.

Cons

There is definitely a learning curve, as with any CAD program, and it is going to take time for a beginner to learn how to manipulate things the way that they want to. For example, it took me a long time to figure out how to make a wire that corkscrews around a curved line, and none of my teachers knew how to so I ended up getting somewhere close to what I wanted after watching countless videos on it.

Excellent.

Pros

The ease of use of designing from scratch and ending up with a fully featured mechanical CAD design in a span of some clicks.. Definitely one of the best Engineering CAD softwares out in the market. Oh and, it is free to use for students and teachers!

Cons

Finite Element Analysis (FEA) or stress simulation cannot be done in this software. Would have been ideal if these features were also integrated as an option after designing the parts to test in real-time if it it would sustain the external forces in real-life.

### "Not bad once you get used to it..."

January 6, 2021

3.0

We have since switched to alternative software that was more intuitive to use, this is I feel the main drawback of Solid Edge and the only reason we switched.

Pros

The program offers many of the features you would expect and want from a 3D modelling package, models of some complexity can be constructed and assemblies created to give an overview of a project or design before having to physically create it.

Cons

Solid Edge is far from the most intuitive software to learn and takes some time to get to grips with, not ideal for CAD beginners.
