With WhatsApp, you are able to text, call, and video chat people in all areas of the world. All you need is data or a wifi connection. This makes it very easy to communicate with business partners all around the world. You can talk individually or create groups depending on your needs. WhatsApp also uses an end-to-end encryption feature and best of all it is a free application! Cons There have been a few issues regarding the security of the app but overall it seems to be pretty useful and trustworthy. I sometimes wish there were more options that are similar to those of text messaging, for example the ability to "like" or "react" to other messages. However, skype started to degrade some time ago. For business our company migrated to slack, however, I was not sure what to use for my personal needs. I tried viber, but didn't like it much. Then some of my friends told me about whatsapp, I installed it and it completely replaced skype for me. It's like skype in its best years: fast, good voice quality, all features you need and not bloated, and did I tell you that it's free? Even my mom, who's not tech-savvy at all was able to install and start using whatsapp on her own. I'm very happy with the service. Pros The world is growing much smaller, and now with the pandemic we live in an almost totally virtual world. Conferencing software has brought people from practically every country on the globe into our living rooms and offices. WhatsApp enables us to make individual contact with the new friends we've met in all of these far flung lands. Today, I watched a lady in South Africa reach out to a lady who was suffering from the death of a loved one. They talked and a true and personal connection was made. This would not have been possible without WhatsApp. Personally, I have developed and deepened a number of personal relationships with friends and family members from the UK and Australia. That other 5%, is just normal issues we all face with our electronics on a daily basis. Pros I really enjoy using whatsapp. As a professional hairstylist, I can use a seperate number, other than my personal phone, to give to clients I take outside of my normal job. It's extremly user friendly. You can have someone leave a message, or you can do a video call. For me, seeing my clients hair, or having a quick consultation before I even see the client, helps me to prepare for the service even more. I thoroughly would recommend Whatsapp to anyone with a buisness who does not want to use their personal phone number. It's basically worldwide, and their is end to end encryption, so no one can try and do any mischief on your line. It barely glitches, and when it does. Cons A little glitch could send all your data into a black hole, no matter how often you back up and this can be extremely frustrating. I can shoot them a quick WhatsApp text to say "hey! did you get my email about the grant submission we are working on? can you send us your updated CV ASAP?" Highly recommended!! Pros The best things about WhatsApp are that it is free, it is easy to download and install (I use it on my phone) and that it is extremely popular. Therefore, I find that almost all of the people I want to connect with (via WhatsApp) are also using the software. I live and have my work base in the U.S. but a great deal of my research takes place in other countries. It is often hard to connect with friends and colleagues outside the U.S., especially those I work with in Africa. WhatsApp helps me stay in touch with them!! We can do both phone calls and text messages, and can even share images. It has been a real life changer for me since I started using it last year. Cons It has been hard for me to figure out how to sync the numbers on my cellphone with people who are already on WhatsApp. Further, sometimes my cellphone syncs people to WhatsApp but then when I go to contact them (via WhatsApp) it is the wrong contact information. Another challenge I have had with WhatsApp is the quality of the calls.
