My experience with Alleva EMR was deeply disappointing, and could even be called exhausting. The persistent technical problems, slow and unreliable system, and unhelpful support response created ongoing challenges for our practice. I would caution others to consider these issues seriously before committing to Alleva. If you are looking for reliability, accountability, and responsive support, I suggest you evaluate alternative solutions carefully. This review is based solely on my documented experience as a customer and reflects my honest perspective.

Pros

I liked the dashboard "To-do" list feature, it was one of the redeemable features of Alleva. I wish more of their software was this usable.

Cons

1\. Ongoing Technical Failures Throughout our contract, Alleva’s EMR consistently failed to perform as promised. The calendar feature was especially problematic, with appointment statuses unpredictably reverting from “complete” to “open” and scheduled times changing without reason. These glitches repeatedly disrupted our clinical workflow, created documentation risks, and undermined our confidence in the platform. 2. Ineffective and Dismissive Support Despite raising dozens of support tickets and spending hours on the phone (often with the same issues recurring), resolution was rarely achieved. Many responses from the support team were dismissive—defaulting to “user error” rather than investigating deeper. Even when I provided clear evidence, the burden was repeatedly placed on us to reproduce errors, and most tickets were closed without real solutions. 3. Unprofessional Communication At times, responses from support leadership felt confrontational or patronizing, which added unnecessary stress to already urgent technical issues. Even when backend problems were finally acknowledged by Alleva, communication about follow-up and remediation was lacking. 4. System Slowness and Lost Work The system was often slow, and data would sometimes be lost or not save correctly. This created additional work for staff and impacted patient care. Despite submitting both written and verbal reports of these issues, meaningful action was not taken.

Pretty good. However, it's sometimes slow and difficult to pull up. There's often times when I have access to email and internet, but not Alleva.

Pros

It's easy to navigate. Once a trainee is taught how to use the program, there's typically a period of having to revisit previously taught items; however, it seems to come easier with use over time.

Cons

Sometimes, it adds strange numbers and letters after using a period in our treatment plan reviews. This causes one to have to take time to go in and delete the EMR add-ons. It gets monotonous.

A plus grade, this is the best program I have use since becoming a counselor in 2013, it is like driving a brand new Tesla after having a 20 year old beater car.

Pros

It is so easy to use and navigate, I am able to find everything I need quick and I ESPECIALLY love the autosave, no matter what happens my information is always saved.

Cons

sometimes it glitches and it can be frustrating getting back to your spot, but that like literally only happened to me 1 time in 2 years of using it

The training was very informative as well as great for visual aid for learning the program. The videos were spot on for what i was hired for.

Cons

It was a lot at once sometimes. But when it came time to utilize the program i felt like i was comfortable.

Overall it is ok. It is definitely frustrating on the days it goes down or I lose information that has taken time to write.

Pros

Alleva overall is easy to navigate. It is not difficult to learn the different things that are offered on the site.

Cons

Alleva often times does not save my notes or other information inputted. This can be frustrating when you have done most of a group note (with 10+ attendees) and the information gets lost.

I’ve had a really good experience using Alleva for billing. It’s easy to navigate once you get familiar with it, and it keeps everything organized including claims, reports, and communication. Their support team has also been super responsive whenever I’ve had questions. Sometimes reports take a little longer to load than I’d like, but overall, it’s been a solid system that’s made our billing process much smoother.

Pros

Fun and easy to use UI, it has networking and communication tools that simplify direct contact and information

Cons

Not much, random glitches here and there. I know we had a lot of issues with room changes when times would lapse.

Pros

It is super simple for my users interact with and it gives me great custom reporting on the back end.

Cons

The baked in CRM components are not fleshed out, but thankfully they integrate with other great CRM technology!

Overall 9 out of 10 I would give it a 10 out of 10 if it wasn’t for the glitches, even though they are a few and far apart.

Pros

The thing I like most about Alleva is that you can customize it without changing the functionality of the program. The software is very organized and very user-friendly. Also, \[sensitive content hidden\] assisted us with set up, and he was very professional, responded in a timely manner, and played a huge role in allowing us to become certified three days after purchasing the software.

Cons

Every once in a while, there are a few glitches. I have pointed them out with our customer. Care representative.

Reason for choosing Alleva

There are a few competitors in our industry, but their customer service is very poor and they’re baseline. Product requires a lot of work to become functional. The fact that Alleva is so responsive is a large contributor to our deciding factor.

In all our experience has been a good one. Again the account management team and support is always great.

Pros

I love their customer service. They are always available and willing to try to find a solution or help. The chat function is great. They are always coming up with improvements and they listen to our suggestions.

Cons

I wish we could view multiple programs at one time. Also, wish we could email directly with our external officer (working on this via the family portal now)

Overall poor. Searching for information is challenging. There are aspects of the system that seem to have been added with the intent of making charting easier, but are inappropriate to have in the system. eg. hypertensive, etc. in VS. The flow of the VS page is different than how nurses' are used to reading them. There is an order to how we document.

Pros

To be completely honest, there is not one aspect of Alleva that I like in comparison with other EMRs I have used.

Cons

I don't like that the prescription module and chart module do not integrate. When I am in one patient's prescription module, the chart patient does not change to reflect the prescription patient. Also our safety checks do not auto populate based on times due. I have sent several email help desk requests if anyone is interested in reviewing using my email.

### "Alleva: Pros and Cons"

Overall I haven't been impressed. I don't deal with Alleva on the back-end (finances, administration, etc.) but from what I have experienced, I've experienced more struggles than I have successes. Frankly, I feel that I have to work my job around my EMR instead of the EMR making my job easier. I want to be fair that I don't have the entire picture, but I would not recommend.

Pros

Alleva has some really cool customizable features. The user interface is aesthetically pleasing compared to other EMRs I've used in the past.

Cons

Really struggling to make Alleva work for my use. There are quite a few bugs (specifically with treatment plans) and features that are not intuitive and do not match with what we're looking for. It's tough to get support. Submitting a ticket is often challenging to get a response and when I get a response, typically the solution is 1. "You're not using it correctly and it is user error." and then when I take time out of my schedule to show screenshots, I get 2. "Yeah that's weird, we'll follow up on that." For example: "Hey only three out of the six objectives that I updated were saved when I updated my treatment plan." The response was "We only have record of three objectives updated." Additionally, it is often slow and/or buggy. Notes will not save which requires me to write the note elsewhere to copy and paste it back in when Alleva begins working again.

Pros

I like the ease of use of Alleva and how if I'm not sure how to do something their help section has instructions.

Cons

Sometimes it will log me out for not being active, but that's more a user thing than a con because that's important for HIPAA.

### "Solid platform for outpatient and intensive outpatient practices"

No real problems at all over the years that we've worked with Alleva. We're truly happy.

Pros

The flexibility and customization for the platform makes it a terrific option - particularly in light of the support and the willingness of the staff to create solutions on the fly.

Cons

Some of the continuity of the software is a little confusing - inability to access notes and attendance in programming from an intuitive place is an example. The inability for the scheduler to connect to an outside calendar such as Outlook creates a tremendous amount of extra work and communication problems with staff around scheduling. Lastly, the reporting function - or the inability to customize reports based on specific criteria can be confounding.

### "Started good, but went downhill fast "

Poor, the company and it's leaders were very rude, unhelpful, and resorted to hostile communication with us when we attempted to address critical failures within the software. We were often told it was our fault, or that it was not within the limits of their software. The EMR was also ridiculously unstable, constantly giving "slow network" messages which were not in any way connected to our actual network. Our opinion of them changed very quickly when we witnessed the communication and dare I say hostile correspondence from their leadership.

Pros

To-Do list with Alleva was one of its best features, and is robust compared to many other softwares.

Cons

Features missing, billing reporting was a nightmare, treatment plans were complex and not user friendly, the costs changed and company was quick to threaten and retaliate when brought to their attention. Support was delayed or not helpful, we felt a huge burden was placed to us to "explain" how the software was behaving differently from what they could replicate.

Kipu was horribly convoluted, while it had a robust billing system the overall GUI and functionality was cumbersome, required 10-15 clicks to get to everything. Kipu also was deceptive of their pricing. Starting with 2500 a month, and ending up costing well over 6,000 per month.

### "A review"

Poor. It is frustrating to have the system glitch multiple times a shift - screens not populating with data already entered, at least daily a message saying there is a loading error. Have to logout and log back in. When you are trying to get meds to 60 people and you have to keep doing this - its annoying.

Pros

The best I can say about Alleva is that it is serviceable. I am not a fan of the system.

Cons

It is difficult to teach new people how to navigate around Alleva. Whoever put together the program does not seem to have had any medical background. For instance, the screen that you record vital signs to has no logic to where the data appears. It is not user friendly to have blood pressure in one corner, pulse in a different spot, temperature somewhere else. The screens definitely need streamlining. The number of steps it takes to order and print lab requisitons is ridiculous. I wrote the instructions out for other people's use and I filled a page and a half with step-by-step process - and I printed small.

### "Alleva- don't waste your money -time consuming"

Very poor rep support. Poor teaching methods. Unable to change templates once implemented. I'd give it zero stars if that was an available choice.

Pros

Calendar - that is all. Too many hidden screens. Too many clicks. Time consuming. Poor rep support.

Cons

Too time consuming. Too many clicks. Hard to change templates once implemented. Reps do not come out to teach in person. Poor teaching methods used prior to implementing Alleva. Medication documentation has too many clicks and many meds not available to click/enter. E- scribing does not cross over to MAR list. Do not recommend. Hidden screens snd hard to find different screens such as History/physical and Rx prescribing.
