Technology Integrator Education Management Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Top of the Line Chromebook Monitoring Solution" May 28, 2019 5.0 We have had great success in our 1:1 program with GoGuardian. We have been able to reach out to families when a child was endangered, and our staff is feeling very comfortable using devices in the classroom. Pros GoGuardian provides many different features that make implementing a 1:1 Chromebook program fairly easy. The filtering solution is fairly quick and easy to learn and can work off-site. They also have Smart Alerts which notifies us when a student is doing something that could cause self-harm or is looking at pornography. Lastly, the teacher portal allows teachers to monitor and easily step in to help students stay engaged. Cons The teacher side of things could use some improvements in the way that it interacts with the Chromebooks, although this might require a different type of installation. It would be great to get a constant live snapshot of Chromebook devices rather than just the current tab. Review Source JA Jeff A. Pros GoGuardian is extremely user friendly. I sent one text to a teacher saying, go to this site and login this way. I then stopped in an hour later and she was chatting with students, setting up scenes, locking kids out of their devices. She needed no training. BUT if there is a need, they also have amazing tutorials to show how to do things. Cons Its great, but we do seem to have students that can figure out ways around it. April 13, 2026 5.0 It is very simple to learn even for teachers that are not computer saving. Works great and I can interact with students without calling them out. I can just glance at my monitor and know instantly which student is lagging behind or possibly confused,. Cons Nothing. If a computer is down for the day, it affects the class. December 5, 2019 5.0 GoGuardian Teacher has been a great product and is loved by our teachers. They can choose to monitor or restrict Chromebooks. We use GoGuardian Admin to monitor Smart Alerts and track lost Chromebooks. Pros GoGuardian gives you the ability to easily manage your Chromebooks in the classroom. It allows our teachers the freedom to teach instead of monitoring devices. Cons There is not much to dislike. They recently added a feature to allow Admins to log in as teachers to troubleshoot issues. That was a previous complaint that has now been addressed. THe ability to add and remove sites from the restriction lists is simple and intuitive. We also use the Teach classroom monitoring product that has made a sweeping difference in the classrooms . Cons the cost feels high when first deciding to use the products. but after using for a couple years i cant imagine a better implementation. Even though it's not as user-friendly as some other software, I do think it is the best tool you have to make sure students are staying on track. You can close tabs if they've gone to a game or website they aren't supposed to be on, you can chat separately with them or send an Announcement to everyone, you can create different "scenes" that block some websites but let through others. It's really a great way to let students work without you peering over their shoulders constantly. Pros I love that I can easily check a student's progress and chat with them. I love user-friendly software, and it's pretty easy. Cons Not everything is user-friendly, you have to click around a bit to figure out how to create scenes and such. Review Source Brittany W. I love that I have the control and ability to close out any tabs which should not be open at a given time. Being able to send an announcement to all of my students at once is great when my class blocks end. I also LOVE the new features GoGuardian has created: audio calls and presentation mode. The reports at the end of each class are also amazing. You can see a timeline with what each student was doing at a given time and for how long. All of these features are a must during a normal school year, not to mention a remote one! Cons There are been some issues with the system status as of lately. With remote teaching right now this has essentially left me flying blind- especially when I cannot see my student's computers or see who is online. Review Source JM Josh M. Through it, my class is more efficient, more on topic, and better focused. In an era of education where every student uses a device, GoGuardian is quickly becoming essential. Pros GoGuardian does an excellent job of allowing me to monitor and have some control over the devices of my students. The monitoring itself is great, but my favorite parts of GoGuardian are the automatic and manual tab controls. At certain times throughout the day (start of lessons), I can have specific tabs automatically open and others not be allowed. These small controls help my classes to run much more smoothly. Cons GoGuardian has a bit of a habit of slowing down, freezing, or being unreliable. Though this has considerably improved in the last year, there are still lessons in which it is unavailable or experiencing slow downs. This used to be a larger concern and doesn't happen much anymore, but it is still very inconvenient when it happens. January 14, 2023 5.0 Before GoGuardian, our monitoring system was standing in the back of the room and watching over the students' shoulders. One of my colleagues even went so far as to install angled mirrors to see student activity on the devices. It was very low-tech and not very effective.GoGuardian is a game changer. I now have a complete and efficient system that enables me to effectively monitor and support student progress. Pros I really like how easy GoGuardian is to use. I just sign on with my google account, choose my classes, and then I am able to monitor student activity and progress. I also like the way that I can see various types of data pertaining to student activity...from actual websites visited, time browsing and actual time on task. I can also see a timeline of the student activity and I have a record of the timeline. Cons I would really like to have a button or quick switch to lock all devices. Even from a different classroom, I can keep on eye on my students’ online use to ensure they are using the internet safety and correctly. Pros This software is a game-changer. In today’s digital age and with how easy it is to find and do anything on the internet, GoGuardian is the Batman of the classroom: the silent sentinel who keeps watch over what the students click. Every day my students use their chromes for all sorts of reasons: research, typing a response for an assigned reading, taking AR quizzes, taking online tests, and more. In the past, I would catch glimpses of a student being on the wrong webpage or even cheating by looking up the meaning of the words they were being tested on. GoGuardian as stopped (or at least massively decreased) all of that distracting web surfing and cheating. I can easily click on a student’s name and see what webpage they’re on as well as their computer’s history to see if they had visited any site(s) they shouldn’t have. I can easily monitor the progress a student is making on their assigned writing without alerting them so they can’t just click out and claim innocence. With every student cautious and worried about being caught, this modern panopticon has prevented a lot of inappropriate content from reaching my elementary school students. Cons Thus far, there has been no noteworthy negativity. The software works well. It would be nice to view more than one student at a time but that’s more a wish than a con. To date we have over 10,500 Chromebooks throughout the district with more than 9000 of those used daily. Being able to monitor them within a classroom setting has become critical. GoGuardian provided us with the tools necessary to make the PC to Chromebook switch successful. Pros It is an easy to use intuitive tool that provides a lot of classroom functionality necessary to keep kids focused in a digital world. Our teaching staff that use this product have nothing but good things to say about it. They enjoy being able to lock screens, view what students are watching, and look through history as needed to verify what a child had been doing during class time. Cons The only con for us so far has been the price. We looked at around 6 products prior to going with GoGuardian, and it was on the higher end. It is a great way to check at a glance to see if all my students are on the task they are to be on, and allows me to quickly talk with students to get them back on task without having to call attention to them in front of the whole class. Pros GoGuardian was a great resource to have during remote learning. It let teachers see exactly where the students were working at during a specific time, and allowed for a quick message to students to walk them through what was happening in their assignments. Cons Other than occasional updates/technological issues that happens throughout the year, as is to be expected with any technological tool, I am very happy with GoGuardian and using it in the classroom. The main purpose was to implement web filtering that we could control for devices going home, trying to keep students safe on the web in school and at home. We have been impressed with the system's features and functionality. If we have questions or issues, their support team is ready to assist with Fast response times. They provide easy to access training materials. Pros Over the years of use, many new features/upgrades have been release, at no additional cost to us. The support is great! Cons The price was pretty steep, until we negotiated lower pricing through our vendor. There are still some granular Admin permissions that are not yet available. But, I have been part of multiple brief one-on-one discussions or panels with GoGuardian reps, regarding adding these features and more. Pros It works well for day to day usage and gradually improves usability throughout the years. The alerts system is fairly decent at seeing issues and reporting them to the administration in the district. Customer service is very helpful and friendly. Cons Several components of the software do not work or otherwise have low functionality. The product was poorly transitioned over from an old interface to a the new, more user friendly one. This causes users to have to jump between old and new to manage the software which is a bit of an inconvenience. I like that I can login from anywhere to the admin console to sniff out trouble. From the teacher end, I like the scenes that allow me to guide my classes, whether they are in person or remote! It can give you a 24/7 review of all computer activities for the most part on the student Chromebooks. Pros It alerts us to inappropriate searches, monitors youtube, and other daily student activities. It has a great teacher interface to monitor their classrooms as well. Cons It is pricey for what it does. If they raise the prices one more time, we will drop them. You have to switch between two different user interfaces to get a complete look at student activities. The smart alerts in particular has been able to provide us with information to get help to students that need help on multiple occasions. Pros GoGuardian was the first of it's kind to offer a "Chromebook only" cloud-based filter solution so that we could filter students on (only) Chromebooks at school and while they're home. They keep adding features that school and tech admins need and they're always updating their product to make it more user friendly and provide better performance. Especially after getting past the learning curve with our teachers. I would recommend it to other schools that are need of 1:1 monitoring software. Pros For the teachers that use GoGaurdian to manage their classroom, it has a very easy and quick learning curve. When used properly, it works very effectively. Cons My biggest complaint with GoGaurdian is that as an IT Admin, I wish there was an administrator dashboard where I could edit/alter a teachers sessions. There are too many times that a teacher will have a sub, but will forget to unblock certain sites that their students need while they are away. The schedule feature is perfect and makes it so easy to launch a class and be ready when the students arrive. I have been very happy with the newest update which allows me to point to items on the child's screen. I do wish i could annotate for them on their screen, control their mouse/keyboard when they are struggling to make something work and show them my screen temporarily without setting up a separate zoom. Pros I love being able to see all of my student computers on one screen. I have really found this software to be helpful in keeping students on track in class. Cons I have had some difficulties with the "scenes" feature. If I set the scene to only allow students to access a specific website(s), often, the students will still hit a wall when they have to sign in to that website. June 12, 2019 5.0 GoGuardian helps with communicating directly with students without other students hearing because I can send the student a chat message. Pros We use GoGuardian to increase monitoring student 1:1 devices. Students and parents are aware that devices are monitored. Cons I want to be able to group certain courses together so that when I identify that a student is on/off task I want that learning in the app to apply to that entire group of classes so that the learning of the app is quicker.
