IT Director Education Management Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Has great potential." May 1, 2019 4.0 Mostly good. It is easy to install and mass push to students. It can give you a 24/7 review of all computer activities for the most part on the student Chromebooks. Pros It alerts us to inappropriate searches, monitors youtube, and other daily student activities. It has a great teacher interface to monitor their classrooms as well. Cons It is pricey for what it does. If they raise the prices one more time, we will drop them. You have to switch between two different user interfaces to get a complete look at student activities. They have a new admin 2.0 panel, but have not merged the full functionality of the old and new panel together yet. Not sure why? Review Source DW David W. It really keeps students on task. Students are less likely to search for non-approved material knowing I have access to their timeline. Pros I love being able to restrict certain sites. I love being able to allow only approved sites for students to browse. This eliminates students getting off task and forces them to be only on approved sites. I also like the ability to screenshot student screens. If a student is on a questionable site, it's great to have proof in case problems arise. I also like the ability to look at a student's timeline. Cons I wish there was a way to block "unblocked" sites. Unfortunately some sites get through the system and appear to be google. Our tech savy students have figured out a way to play games that don't get blocked. Review Source MK Mark K. May 1, 2019 5.0 GoGuardian had what we needed when we needed it and they keep getting better all the time. The smart alerts in particular has been able to provide us with information to get help to students that need help on multiple occasions. Pros GoGuardian was the first of it's kind to offer a "Chromebook only" cloud-based filter solution so that we could filter students on (only) Chromebooks at school and while they're home. They keep adding features that school and tech admins need and they're always updating their product to make it more user friendly and provide better performance. Set up once and never look back!! All levels of teachers are able to use the software efficiently. Pros Ease if use!! It is so easy to set up as a teacher and monitor your classes. They have helped save us many headaches that would have otherwise occurred had we not had them. Pros Ease of use - once set up, the information we get about student usage history, the ease of locking down custom filter policies, Smart alerts are a nice feature for tracking and being alerted to students more risky behaviors. Cons Sometimes sites would be categorized under a different category than one would expect. There is no "super-admin" access to GoGuardian teacher to oversee teacher classroom setups. Especially after getting past the learning curve with our teachers. I would recommend it to other schools that are need of 1:1 monitoring software. Pros For the teachers that use GoGaurdian to manage their classroom, it has a very easy and quick learning curve. When used properly, it works very effectively. Cons My biggest complaint with GoGaurdian is that as an IT Admin, I wish there was an administrator dashboard where I could edit/alter a teachers sessions. There are too many times that a teacher will have a sub, but will forget to unblock certain sites that their students need while they are away. The only way to get around this is to contact GoGuardian and ask them to edit the session. Review Source SK Sarah K. They are willing to listen to new ideas or improvements and are diligent when it comes to finding a solution to a problem. Pros Goguardian is a great resource to keep tabs on students without having to hover over a computer screen or their shoulder. You can set scenes to keep students academically honest and keep the integrity of the lesson while knowing that your student is paying attention to the task at hand. IT Support Services Specialist Education Management Used the software for: 6-12 months ### "GoGuardian is a teacher's saving grace for Chromebooks" May 1, 2019 5.0 GoGuardian has been amazing for our Middle School 1:1 program. Teachers can easily set up classes how they see fit. They can block all sites, except what the teacher wants them on. They can also keep it open, and just block things like games, youtube, etc. Administrators also get alerts for inappropriate activity. There is a feature called the "penalty box" which can be set up so they can only go on approved sites. This is a great deterrent for inappropriate use of the device. You can also have different settings at school and at home. This is nice if you want to block social media at school, but allow them to use it on their own time. Pros GoGuardian makes it easy to block sites and manage classes to keep students on task during the day. Cons Besides our middle school Chromebook 1:1 program, we also have 1:1 program with MacBook Air's. There is no good way to utilize GoGuardian for the Mac's in our environment. " May 23, 2021 5.0 I have enjoyed the ease of GoGuardian. The schedule feature is perfect and makes it so easy to launch a class and be ready when the students arrive. I have been very happy with the newest update which allows me to point to items on the child's screen. I do wish i could annotate for them on their screen, control their mouse/keyboard when they are struggling to make something work and show them my screen temporarily without setting up a separate zoom. Pros I love being able to see all of my student computers on one screen. I have really found this software to be helpful in keeping students on track in class. Cons I have had some difficulties with the "scenes" feature. If I set the scene to only allow students to access a specific website(s), often, the students will still hit a wall when they have to sign in to that website. I then have to go to each individual computer to allow them access to it. They know I can see everything they are doing and that I will close out their tabs. Also makes it easy for me to help them since I can see their scrren. Cons I do not feel like there is much, if anything, that needs to be improved for use in my classroom. I find it user friendly. June 12, 2019 5.0 GoGuardian helps with communicating directly with students without other students hearing because I can send the student a chat message. Pros We use GoGuardian to increase monitoring student 1:1 devices. Students and parents are aware that devices are monitored. Cons I want to be able to group certain courses together so that when I identify that a student is on/off task I want that learning in the app to apply to that entire group of classes so that the learning of the app is quicker. With a filter that learns and adapts we can be more effective in the protection of students while they are online. This protection occurs while on and off campus with their District issued devices. February 5, 2020 4.0 I really like GoGuardian and recommend it in addition to filtering software. Pros I really love that this software lets our teachers monitor what their kids are doing on their Chromebooks. For teachers to have instant access like that is important with 1:1 devices. May 12, 2020 5.0 It's an easy to use web filter service and has worked very well for us as we transitioned to a remote learning environment. Staff find it easy to submit requests to have sites unblocked and the website itself is easy to work with. Pros This is an easy to use web filter tool for small schools that need to manage separate filters for different age groups. It is very easy to set up different profiles. Cons It is expensive. The fees to maintain our accounts are more than we expected and it's hard to negotiate once you already have the tool set up. Reason for choosing GoGuardian GoGuardian was cheaper. Using this along with the Google Suite has made interacting and sharing information with my students super easy and streamlined. The MVP club has also been a fun way to interact and learn more about the features. THANK YOU for creating an awesome experience!!! Pros I like that it provides me another way to discreetly interact with my students. I also like how it saves the student activity if it is needed at a later time. Cons The scheduling is very linear. We follow many different schedules through the year and it would be nice to have more options for scheduling (which I believe may be in the works as I type!) It has put our teachers' back in control of the students and their devices. We have a one to one student to device district which means now monitoring the students is a lot more manageable for the teachers. It is convenient to be able to lock down a student's screen when it is necessary, too. Cons I get a lot of emails from the program! Very easy to use even without training. Best change to teaching in years. Pros This is the best software I have used in years. It is the number one tool to use with students in the classroom or remote. I can send them impossibly long urls with two clicks: no more running around to help them type it correctly. I can close their tabs, send a chat, and see what they see on their screens. Cons I cannot think of one thing I do not like about this tool. It has put control of technology in the hands of the teacher. I was skeptical at first, as I thought my class was very well managed. The first day, I caught students off task and bullying another. This software is priceless. Pros I love that I can track, see, and redirect students to be more engaged and on task in the classroom. Even in the most engaging of classrooms, this software improves students on-task behavior.
