I had a rather middle of the road experience with the project. Files like Revit models that need to be collaborative and InDesign which has links were not able to be hosted. This made it necessary to maintain two different file storage locations - not ideal.

Pros

It was good for sending large files like Revit models and full set pdfs to consultants and clients.

Cons

Getting contacts into the system and getting them organizing took way too many steps and too much time. I also liked the organizing and titling of emails that it generated.

Have enjoyed being able to transfer large files to outside stakeholders but that is about it. The staff hates it and it has been more trouble than benefit. For the size of the firm it is extremely expensive. For the most part we were just using it as a glorified e-mail management system. Also we looked into adding some of the more useful modules for the construction administration and they were also extremely expensive.

Pros

The ability to upload and send large files to the outside without having to use an FTP or other file transfer software.

Cons

There are too many to list. We have the Cloud version (SaaS) and it is extremely unstable. Features quit working and you aren't even aware that they aren't working. The outlook add-in crashes frequently and overall the software is not intuitive. There is no real integration between Deltek Vision and Deltek PIM. We were told there would be be but discovered after the fact that it really only works one way. However, Deltek reps keep shutting off our customization so that we could not use the software the way we wanted to.

Reasons for choosing Deltek PIM

Because of the supposed integration with our other Deltek Accounting software. we found out after the fact that this supposed integration was really over blown .

As a recent convert to PIM the learning curve is very real but the potential for document management is very high. Email management, contract management, and general project management features are all pretty standard compared to other softwares but being packaged all together in one product here is a nice comparison not all competitors offer.

Pros

PIM is an all inclusive project management software that streamlines project emails, team information, documents, and communication. Filing, searching, and managing information is very fast with PIM and document metadata is used to track document revisions and characteristics. The Document Lifecycle Management feature has a lot of potential for keeping track of drawing revisions. Contract administration/management features are as simple to use as any other project management software.

Cons

The document tracking logic of PIM is quite different than the typical folder or microsoft windows structure and there can be a big learning curve at first. Files are uploaded to PIM and stay in PIM for tracking but this can make interfacing with the documents difficult at first.
