Its simple interface and excellent response time ensure that updates, such as removing out-of-stock media, happen simultaneously across all locations within seconds. Bringing this process in-house, which was previously handled by third parties, has greatly increased agility and significantly reduced costs. Pros Xibo has enabled my organization to manage and distribute media and all our visual communication. It is easy to use, the response time is excellent, and my stores can request the removal of media when stock runs out, with the content being removed from all locations simultaneously within seconds. Previously, this operation was managed by third parties, but with Xibo we were able to bring the process in-house, giving us greater agility and a HUGE cost reduction. Cons The only downside to Xibo is the lack of a mobile app for media management, but the solution perfectly fulfills its purpose. The image creation applet contains a good selection of tools. The whole program contains an amount of customization and end user access that is unparalleled in the software space, letting us tweak anything we like to make it work. Cons The interface is unbelivebly confusing, with settings and features that relate to eachother in completely different areas. To just change the .jpg for one screen that only displays said .jpg with no changes takes at minimum 4 different menus, plus submenus, and the delay between applying it and receiving confirmation that it is displaying is measured in 10's of minutes, if it reports correctly at all. And the player licenses support android, which is easy to get a hold of compatible boxes. Pros I was able to set up the CMS to run locally. I don't have to perpetually pay a subscription fee in order to use the system. Cons Theres no built-in system to use hdmi-cec to turn on/turn off TVs. It would be a simple feature to add for the xibo player. I had to spend time creating a custom solution to do the same thing with scripts. The platform and display endpoints are very easy to configure, seems to be secure and stable, and works great for all of the marketing needs of our clients. You get a lot of functionality for very little cost, making this a fantastic product. I have not needed technical support, so I can't speak to the quality of support. Pros Xibo CMS is free to deploy on our own servers, and was very easy to set up using the preconfigured docker containers. Cons There are an enormous number of features, which is great but translates to a bit of a learning curve for staff members and clients. We replaced another system and the transition was smooth for bot our internal administrative group as well as our customers who actually maintain the content on the signage. We plan to continue to use Xibo as our standard digital signage solution for the future. Pros It does everything we need regarding digital signage. We have mostly standard signage with a playlist of slides, pictures, and some videos but we do have signs with multiple displays where one display is interactive via touch and controls the other display when selections are made. Xibo handles all of this and more. Xibo doesn't need a powerful computer to do what we need so we use fanless $250 mini PCs to control our signage. Cons Some of the features take some getting used to but that's to be expected. Every system has its own way of presenting the user interface but it does take some time to adjust to the way Xibo wants things to be done. April 7, 2026 5.0 We are using Xibo more than 10 years now on a self hostet system with docker on linux. It is very easy to get in it, and if there are problems, the support always helps. Pros The easiness of use and the fact of a open source system which is very simple to set up and get it running. Also I am very pleased with the stableness on a lighwight system. (Jusst a linux server and some android clients) Cons Some minor things are a little bit bugy sometimes. I think for example of weather widgets and similar stuff. September 10, 2025 5.0 Started using Xibo primarily for large retail estates around 4 years ago, after trying pretty much everything else - including in-house CMS in the 90s. Xibo gives us the flexibility to adapt to different scenarios and requirements, which makes it ideal for prototyping. The automation elements mean we can run large networks without constant intervention. Pros The flexibility; the ability to schedule .htz and dynamic overlays, which have proved invaluable, giving me opportunities I haven't seen before in scheduling software - I've been doing this since 1989. The Android player is suoer stable. Cons Black burst between videos on Windows player really needs resolving as it makes Xibo unsuitable for a commercial environment when there is a requirement for a Windows player. We've found the transition from CMS 3 to 4 quite difficult as it appeared top have a fundamentally different work flow from what we are used to, but everything is settling down now. Pros The ease of display and screen management in an easy to use CMS. As it is cloud based i can make changes and additions to content remotely where ever i may be based. It is also good value to money compared to other services used by our university. Cons We have encounter bugs and issues with the hardware which mean that it does need maintenance (simple restarts most often) more often that i can attend to sometimes. Server-side software can be customized. Pretty easy learning curve. Cons Laggy hardware (solvable), breaking updates sometimes, quickly fixed usually though. Pricey Cloud options and addons. Lack of SSH commands to their own hardware, inability to reboot remotely "out-of-the-box) in case of app crash on android. Don't worry, it is a great product, you just have to invest time to learn about it and all it provides. Pros It is very customizable, easy to deploy and it makes digital signage simple enough to use. The costs are fairly low (licenses for Android devices), but mostly it is free (server portion, and Windows licenses). Cons It can be hard to use all the functions and to make full use of Xibo. There are so many functions and options that are buried in settings and menus ... but after you familiarise yourself with Xibo, it is a pleasure to use. It displayed news from my website intertwined with ads for companies that operated in the business. All I had to do was to set up Xibo "on prem" (my own server) and use a cheap TV-box as a client. No hussle. Pros I was looking for an affordable DOOH platform for my business and Xibo was by far the most complete option. Its RSS news grabbing capabilitie, was decisive for choosing this platform, since I work with news media. It was easy to install and set up. Cons The edit page is a little cumbersome. Its GUI for editing a screen could be more feature-rich, like Canva's, where you can just slide and move objects in the timeline. We use our own players running android and on the whole have not had any major issues. Pros It works well. Does as we would expect. Multiple content upload options including dynamic data which is important to us. Cons Its interface is a bit dated and could do with being modernised in some ways. Although it is not consider super friendly use and did require some learning curve. Pros Easy and consider friendly use and stable. For Xibo Client it has multiple OS option to choose. With the option to install Xibo over a docker is added value and make my life easy to manage Xibo Server. Cons Limited transition option. Limited option of widget When publish layout content often takes long time to update on the display. It would best if when click the publish new content appear in a short period.
