Its simple interface and excellent response time ensure that updates, such as removing out-of-stock media, happen simultaneously across all locations within seconds. Bringing this process in-house, which was previously handled by third parties, has greatly increased agility and significantly reduced costs. Pros Xibo has enabled my organization to manage and distribute media and all our visual communication. It is easy to use, the response time is excellent, and my stores can request the removal of media when stock runs out, with the content being removed from all locations simultaneously within seconds. Previously, this operation was managed by third parties, but with Xibo we were able to bring the process in-house, giving us greater agility and a HUGE cost reduction. Cons The only downside to Xibo is the lack of a mobile app for media management, but the solution perfectly fulfills its purpose. And the player licenses support android, which is easy to get a hold of compatible boxes. Pros I was able to set up the CMS to run locally. I don't have to perpetually pay a subscription fee in order to use the system. Cons Theres no built-in system to use hdmi-cec to turn on/turn off TVs. It would be a simple feature to add for the xibo player. I had to spend time creating a custom solution to do the same thing with scripts. It’s intuitive, reliable, and meets our expectations for campaign scheduling and screen control. However, the reporting limitations slow down our operations, and the inflexible billing system creates unnecessary pressure and dissatisfaction. Flexibility should be a priority in a SaaS environment. Pros The platform is very easy to use, intuitive, and works well for managing our network of digital screens. The user interface is clean and straightforward, and for our day-to-day operations, it does exactly what we need. Cons The biggest downside is the payment model. As a customer, I should have the freedom to choose when, how, and where to pay. Other platforms like Spotify or Netflix allow users to cancel and resume subscriptions at their own pace — if you don’t pay, the service stops, but you're not forced to pay for unused time. Xibo forces payment even if the platform isn't being used, which feels unfair and rigid, especially for businesses still growing or in testing phases. Additionally, the reporting feature has some limitations. When trying to export large amounts of data from the screen metrics, the system struggles, making the reporting process slow and inefficient. It continiously improves with more features and stability updates and the team are very helpful if you ever need support. I use a selfhost version that runs without any hiccups effortlessly. It is a set and forget platform that you will not worry about missing a beat. Pros Xibo is a fantastic digital signage platform that offers flexibilty with cloud hosting and self-hosted version on various platforms. It offers great features, solid documentation and support if needed all at a good value. Cons There is a bit of a learning curve to it when you are new to the platform. It is a powerful, professional-grade tool that offers incredible flexibility for our environment. While it takes some time to build the initial structure, the result is a highly reliable system that handles daily rotations and specific weekday blocks perfectly. Pros The most impressive feature is the high level of control over Screen Management and Display Management. We configured it to show some different Things every day, the automation via Playlists and Scheduling makes daily operations effortless. It is a powerful tool for Marketing and Advertising, as I can target specific groups on different days. Additionally, the ability to create and reuse Templates (Layouts) ensures a consistent look across all screens. I love that I only need to upload MP4s to a playlist to update my entire advertising loop. Cons The initial learning curve is quite steep, especially regarding the terminology. Distinguishing between Layouts, Regions, and Playlists can be confusing for beginners. September 23, 2025 5.0 I've been in digital signage since 2002, I've used many different CMS over the years and factoring all the variables in such as Price, Features, security, hardware compatibility etc. there is no better use of money than moving to a xibo platform. Pros My favorite part about xibo is the open-source code. Most CMS platforms would charge thousands of dollars to customize the UI to your preferences, if they'd do it at all. With xibo it can be done extremely easy by any developer. Their documentation is robust and easy for most to follow. Their openness to new and different ideas from the community of users makes their product feature set more impressive with each release Cons The most common complaint I hear from our customers and internal people using xibo is that the interface looks very outdated, and most find it hard to use. There are a lot of buttons that you can click on and the average user doesn't bother to read the instruction xibo has posted and get frustrated. September 9, 2025 5.0 I've been using self-hosted Xibo since the early (v1.2 via LaunchPad) days in a few of our local gyms, dance studio, karate school, sports venue and sports café - for promotions, menu's, live viewing of classes and as a modern alternative to printed signage for sponsors. Even though there was no money to be made of me, \[sensitive content hidden\] always responded to my questions and feedback on the forums and treated me as a valued user. Many years later, with quite a few additional screens and hosted CMS installations, still the Xibo crew is as ready to help me as ever, at times even advising to stick to the self-hosted CMS for my needs. As new clients come along, I will for sure recommend Xibo for their Digital Signage. Xibo is quite easy to use, affordable, versatile, scalable and offers great service. So for their continued hard work on this fantastic product, open and honest communication, and lack of pushing me towards paid solutions when self-hosted works fine, I can only say - having tried other Digital Signage platforms as well - they more than deserve a 5-star review. Pros Xibo offers extensive options and great versatility in the Xibo CMS and fantastic reliability of the Windows, Android and Tizen players (I have no experience with the other players, I can only assume those other players are just as reliable!). Cons There used to be quite a steep learning curve for the less tech savvy user, but the Xibo Training modules have improved that experience tremendously. It might seem complicated at first, but once you learn the ropes, you'll love how many things you can do. Pros Versatility, no matter if you're a small store owner, or running a massive company with hundreds of displays, you'll find the right solution with Xibo. Allso it's very affordable, having an option to go with them. or host it yourself is a big deal for many small companies that are new in the media field. Cons Early days there were a lot of unexplained bugs with no solutions so you had to have some workarounds. The longer they're on the market, the fewer you'll see. The bad thing is that these bugs/limitations were out in the open for years, not really treated as critical. Or they were critical, just too big to tackle quickly. Cons You bought a license for a version of Android player that is not compatible, usable, for another version. So everytime you upgrade your player you have to bought again the license. Ration between cost and performance is good. Xibo is relatively simple and flexible over a large number of platforms. Pros flexibility, embedding of HTML and JavaScript is great, good scheduling tools, simple adding of new displays Cons Editor is too slow, image loading in editor is slow. Pure display monitoring and status of display. Better management of displays from a content point of view. Preset of commands to manage HW remotely is missing like (like, sleep, wakeup, restart, brightness etc. for all android and windows). Canva import is static, would be nice to import design with object so we change change the content. I started using it for non-profit projects and now I am using a commercial version. Product has been improved significanltly over the years Pros I like that now they offer the whitelabel and cloud service for the management application. I have purchased white labeling for an app and it was easy for me to setup the client branding in the Android app. Cons The complexity on adding a single slide and the sincronization issues, you need to improve the connector. As example, I had to keep pushing the same slide over and over again and the client was not showing it. Suddenly after a few hours, the slide showed up. So I think the sincronization between the application on devices and the CMS should be definitely improved. Another thing is that there are too many requirements to setup and push a single slide.
