Its simple interface and excellent response time ensure that updates, such as removing out-of-stock media, happen simultaneously across all locations within seconds. Bringing this process in-house, which was previously handled by third parties, has greatly increased agility and significantly reduced costs. Pros Xibo has enabled my organization to manage and distribute media and all our visual communication. It is easy to use, the response time is excellent, and my stores can request the removal of media when stock runs out, with the content being removed from all locations simultaneously within seconds. Previously, this operation was managed by third parties, but with Xibo we were able to bring the process in-house, giving us greater agility and a HUGE cost reduction. Cons The only downside to Xibo is the lack of a mobile app for media management, but the solution perfectly fulfills its purpose. And the player licenses support android, which is easy to get a hold of compatible boxes. Pros I was able to set up the CMS to run locally. I don't have to perpetually pay a subscription fee in order to use the system. Cons Theres no built-in system to use hdmi-cec to turn on/turn off TVs. It would be a simple feature to add for the xibo player. I had to spend time creating a custom solution to do the same thing with scripts. Systems Administrator Sports Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Full Featured but Confusing" May 6, 2026 3.0 Pros The system is very stable once up and running, and with correct settings/codecs the visual clarity is top notch. The image creation applet contains a good selection of tools. The whole program contains an amount of customization and end user access that is unparalleled in the software space, letting us tweak anything we like to make it work. Cons The interface is unbelivebly confusing, with settings and features that relate to eachother in completely different areas. To just change the .jpg for one screen that only displays said .jpg with no changes takes at minimum 4 different menus, plus submenus, and the delay between applying it and receiving confirmation that it is displaying is measured in 10's of minutes, if it reports correctly at all. The project quickly scaled up in both users and connected displays. We now have over 120 users managing more than 500 operational screens across diverse sectors like industry, retail, and transportation. Screen Management is a breeze. The wide variety of Xibo players allows us to mix different screen brands and seamlessly migrate from other solutions. Server provisioning is fast and straightforward using Docker on-premise, but Xibo also offers highly efficient and affordable SaaS options. Whether you choose cloud or self-hosted, their Customer Support is top-notch. It is a reliable, robust, and highly cost-effective solution. Pros What I appreciate the most is the overall Ease of Use and how quickly you can get the system into production. The learning curve is short for anyone willing to spend a little time on it, and end-users pick it up very fast. Xibo offers incredible Customization Options; being open-source, there are no limits when it comes to interconnecting real-time databases and displaying dynamic production flows. It is truly limitless. Additionally, the Customer Support is highly responsive, and the development team is deeply involved when it comes to feedback and integrating new features. When you look at the features provided compared to proprietary alternatives, the Value for Money is unbeatable. There are now many Xibo integrators all over the world, which makes Xibo a trusted player in this market. Cons Since this project started back in 2009, my main complaint a year ago would have been the User Interface, which felt a bit dated. However, with the new version 4.5, they have completely overhauled the UX/UI, and I truly love the product now. The ease of use and low cost won me over from the beginning. The product has continued to grow and improve ever since. Pros I prefer self-hosted as it is less expensive, but you can opt for cloud hosted if you wish. Wonderful web interface, with clearly laid out areas for managing content, displays, campaigns, etc. Self-hosting does require some technical know-how. Cons I wish it had more native TV clients (ie: an app in the Samsung app-store), but without that, we are forced to hook a mini-PC to each TV. Under Windows 11, we were never able to figure out a way to prevent pop-ups of various types from showing up. Once we switched to using Ubuntu Linux, everything has been very stable and we could avoid all the unnecessary bloatware, tracking, marketing that Microsoft forces you to endure. Sadly, Xibo tech support was not able to provide us with helpful support for the Windows 11 client issues. We eventually figured out a solution on our own. Pros It's very convenient to use the cloud hosted service. Being able to remotely update, schedule, and delegate content updates is a major benefit. Being able to use Linux client that I can manage though Ubuntu Landscape saves me a lot of grief and avoided the hassles we faced with Windows 11. Linux also provided more useful debugging information. It's well priced, an excellent value. Cons I think it's very easy to over-complicate processes. A lot could be simplified and made more intuitive. Xibo Tech support did not offer much help with our client issues. You can run it on cheap players or full commercial displays without getting locked into one vendor. Since it's open source you skip the steep licensing costs and can customize it to fit exactly what you need. For anyone who wants reliable signage without a lot of overhead it's a practical and adaptable choice that works with almost any setup. Cons Technical support tends to ignore you and any bug complaints unless you're using their hosted option. I use it for digital signage at conferences and use pocket PC's to run the Xibo Windows client. The layout tool is easy, the media handling is intuitive and the scheduling is robust. My largest deployment was 41 digital signs at the American Institute of Architecture San Francisco meeting in 2023. Pros The CMS is very powerful. It is easy to create dynamic signage. Also, the scheduling has been able to handle any of my needs. Cons The only real con is when it looses internet connectivity. When this happens, the windows client simply shows the Xibo splash page. It is a powerful, professional-grade tool that offers incredible flexibility for our environment. While it takes some time to build the initial structure, the result is a highly reliable system that handles daily rotations and specific weekday blocks perfectly. Pros The most impressive feature is the high level of control over Screen Management and Display Management. We configured it to show some different Things every day, the automation via Playlists and Scheduling makes daily operations effortless. It is a powerful tool for Marketing and Advertising, as I can target specific groups on different days. Additionally, the ability to create and reuse Templates (Layouts) ensures a consistent look across all screens. I love that I only need to upload MP4s to a playlist to update my entire advertising loop. Cons The initial learning curve is quite steep, especially regarding the terminology. Ration between cost and performance is good. Xibo is relatively simple and flexible over a large number of platforms. Pros flexibility, embedding of HTML and JavaScript is great, good scheduling tools, simple adding of new displays Cons Editor is too slow, image loading in editor is slow. Pure display monitoring and status of display. Better management of displays from a content point of view. Preset of commands to manage HW remotely is missing like (like, sleep, wakeup, restart, brightness etc. for all android and windows). Canva import is static, would be nice to import design with object so we change change the content. We use our own players running android and on the whole have not had any major issues. Pros It works well. Does as we would expect. Multiple content upload options including dynamic data which is important to us. Cons Its interface is a bit dated and could do with being modernised in some ways. Although it is not consider super friendly use and did require some learning curve. Pros Easy and consider friendly use and stable. For Xibo Client it has multiple OS option to choose. With the option to install Xibo over a docker is added value and make my life easy to manage Xibo Server. Cons Limited transition option. Limited option of widget When publish layout content often takes long time to update on the display. It would best if when click the publish new content appear in a short period.
