Its simple interface and excellent response time ensure that updates, such as removing out-of-stock media, happen simultaneously across all locations within seconds. Bringing this process in-house, which was previously handled by third parties, has greatly increased agility and significantly reduced costs. Pros Xibo has enabled my organization to manage and distribute media and all our visual communication. It is easy to use, the response time is excellent, and my stores can request the removal of media when stock runs out, with the content being removed from all locations simultaneously within seconds. Previously, this operation was managed by third parties, but with Xibo we were able to bring the process in-house, giving us greater agility and a HUGE cost reduction. Cons The only downside to Xibo is the lack of a mobile app for media management, but the solution perfectly fulfills its purpose. Systems Administrator Sports Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Full Featured but Confusing" May 6, 2026 3.0 Pros The system is very stable once up and running, and with correct settings/codecs the visual clarity is top notch. The image creation applet contains a good selection of tools. The whole program contains an amount of customization and end user access that is unparalleled in the software space, letting us tweak anything we like to make it work. Cons The interface is unbelivebly confusing, with settings and features that relate to eachother in completely different areas. To just change the .jpg for one screen that only displays said .jpg with no changes takes at minimum 4 different menus, plus submenus, and the delay between applying it and receiving confirmation that it is displaying is measured in 10's of minutes, if it reports correctly at all. And the player licenses support android, which is easy to get a hold of compatible boxes. Pros I was able to set up the CMS to run locally. I don't have to perpetually pay a subscription fee in order to use the system. Cons Theres no built-in system to use hdmi-cec to turn on/turn off TVs. It would be a simple feature to add for the xibo player. I had to spend time creating a custom solution to do the same thing with scripts. Updating the system is risky so HA would be great. While the onboarding is simple a dedicated app from your install would be great. It has also been used at office entrances with short videos about the company. Straightforward player identification for scheduling, assigning layouts and monitoring data. Web-hooks are particularly useful for controlling players remotely. Good range of platform support. Able to manage a lot of players easily. Cons Some widgets even on higher end machines still seem jittery (ticker for example) and videos have to be carefully encoded to work smoothly on the Windows player. Error codes can be a little ambiguous when troubleshooting invalid layouts. The modules they keep adding also make it very appealing to the open-source community. Cons Some of the documentation is lacking, but the forum makes up for it. The third-party Android boxes sold do not have a backup battery, which is somewhat disappointing, but this is not a feature of Xibo; it is specific to the DSC devices. However, the learning curve is in reality longer than it may appear at first glance. Most of the issues we had to solve in real deployments did not originate in CMS or Client, but were instead purely Android or network-related matters. Pros In terms of price/performance ratio it is absolutely outstanding. The platform is very feature-rich and in our experience most users, even after a year, still do not take full advantage of everything it offers – yet it already covers practically all their real-world needs and requests. Cons We encountered poorly documented API. While it seemed that Swagger would be sufficient, in practice we were pushed into using undocumented functions. Another significant issue is the logging system. The use of logs of various types is far from intuitive. In our case, especially reports from ExoPlayer and their correct interpretation are a nightmare. Honestly, the overall approach to log organization is not good – I cannot say how to do it properly, but I know I dread dealing with it. Ideally, something like a built-in interpreter or even a connection to an LLM that could make logs more useful would be a real improvement. Option of selfhosting or hosting trought Xibo Cons PPTX requiring its own program in PC witch became problem for us on lower end hardware with no space to install. Pros The ease of display and screen management in an easy to use CMS. As it is cloud based i can make changes and additions to content remotely where ever i may be based. It is also good value to money compared to other services used by our university. Cons We have encounter bugs and issues with the hardware which mean that it does need maintenance (simple restarts most often) more often that i can attend to sometimes. We have just updated our setup to the latest version of the android boxes so hopefully it is more on our end that the system. DevOps Computer Software Used the software for: 2+ years ### "After 10 years, still amazed by Xibo improvements" September 9, 2025 5.0 It is a great product and Ive been using the community version for 10 years now. I started using it for non-profit projects and now I am using a commercial version. Product has been improved significanltly over the years Pros I like that now they offer the whitelabel and cloud service for the management application. I have purchased white labeling for an app and it was easy for me to setup the client branding in the Android app. Cons The complexity on adding a single slide and the sincronization issues, you need to improve the connector. As example, I had to keep pushing the same slide over and over again and the client was not showing it. Suddenly after a few hours, the slide showed up. So I think the sincronization between the application on devices and the CMS should be definitely improved. Another thing is that there are too many requirements to setup and push a single slide. COO Non-Profit Organization Management Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Brilliant Digital Signage Platform for Multi-Site Retail" June 30, 2025 5.0 Xibo has been a brilliant solution for our digital signage needs across our Community Grocery network. It allows us to ensure consistent branding and messaging in all our stores, while also giving us the flexibility to tailor content for local audiences. Updates and content changes are quick and easy, and the system is robust even with heavy use. It’s made internal comms and promotions much more effective across all sites. Pros Xibo is incredibly reliable, flexible, and easy to manage at scale. Being able to centrally control content across nearly 30 different store locations from one dashboard is a huge time-saver. The scheduling tools are powerful, and the layout designer gives us a lot of creative control without needing specialist skills. It works perfectly for digital signage in a retail/community setting. Cons There’s a bit of a learning curve at the beginning, particularly with understanding layout regions and media timelines.
