Its simple interface and excellent response time ensure that updates, such as removing out-of-stock media, happen simultaneously across all locations within seconds. Bringing this process in-house, which was previously handled by third parties, has greatly increased agility and significantly reduced costs. Pros Xibo has enabled my organization to manage and distribute media and all our visual communication. It is easy to use, the response time is excellent, and my stores can request the removal of media when stock runs out, with the content being removed from all locations simultaneously within seconds. Previously, this operation was managed by third parties, but with Xibo we were able to bring the process in-house, giving us greater agility and a HUGE cost reduction. Cons The only downside to Xibo is the lack of a mobile app for media management, but the solution perfectly fulfills its purpose. And the player licenses support android, which is easy to get a hold of compatible boxes. Pros I was able to set up the CMS to run locally. I don't have to perpetually pay a subscription fee in order to use the system. Cons Theres no built-in system to use hdmi-cec to turn on/turn off TVs. It would be a simple feature to add for the xibo player. I had to spend time creating a custom solution to do the same thing with scripts. It’s intuitive, reliable, and meets our expectations for campaign scheduling and screen control. However, the reporting limitations slow down our operations, and the inflexible billing system creates unnecessary pressure and dissatisfaction. Flexibility should be a priority in a SaaS environment. Pros The platform is very easy to use, intuitive, and works well for managing our network of digital screens. The user interface is clean and straightforward, and for our day-to-day operations, it does exactly what we need. Cons The biggest downside is the payment model. As a customer, I should have the freedom to choose when, how, and where to pay. Other platforms like Spotify or Netflix allow users to cancel and resume subscriptions at their own pace — if you don’t pay, the service stops, but you're not forced to pay for unused time. Xibo forces payment even if the platform isn't being used, which feels unfair and rigid, especially for businesses still growing or in testing phases. Additionally, the reporting feature has some limitations. When trying to export large amounts of data from the screen metrics, the system struggles, making the reporting process slow and inefficient. It is a set and forget platform that you will not worry about missing a beat. The platform and display endpoints are very easy to configure, seems to be secure and stable, and works great for all of the marketing needs of our clients. You get a lot of functionality for very little cost, making this a fantastic product. I have not needed technical support, so I can't speak to the quality of support. Pros Xibo CMS is free to deploy on our own servers, and was very easy to set up using the preconfigured docker containers. Cons There are an enormous number of features, which is great but translates to a bit of a learning curve for staff members and clients. We replaced another system and the transition was smooth for bot our internal administrative group as well as our customers who actually maintain the content on the signage. We plan to continue to use Xibo as our standard digital signage solution for the future. Pros It does everything we need regarding digital signage. We have mostly standard signage with a playlist of slides, pictures, and some videos but we do have signs with multiple displays where one display is interactive via touch and controls the other display when selections are made. Xibo handles all of this and more. Xibo doesn't need a powerful computer to do what we need so we use fanless $250 mini PCs to control our signage. Cons Some of the features take some getting used to but that's to be expected. Every system has its own way of presenting the user interface but it does take some time to adjust to the way Xibo wants things to be done. September 23, 2025 5.0 I've been in digital signage since 2002, I've used many different CMS over the years and factoring all the variables in such as Price, Features, security, hardware compatibility etc. there is no better use of money than moving to a xibo platform. Pros My favorite part about xibo is the open-source code. Most CMS platforms would charge thousands of dollars to customize the UI to your preferences, if they'd do it at all. With xibo it can be done extremely easy by any developer. Their documentation is robust and easy for most to follow. Their openness to new and different ideas from the community of users makes their product feature set more impressive with each release Cons The most common complaint I hear from our customers and internal people using xibo is that the interface looks very outdated, and most find it hard to use. There are a lot of buttons that you can click on and the average user doesn't bother to read the instruction xibo has posted and get frustrated. IT Support Engineer Information Technology and Services Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Xibo at Amazon Corporate IT" October 6, 2025 5.0 Xibo did the job, we were able to have a source for site content and to be able to relay the information to our sites as soon as the event popped up. Sadly, after Covid-19 the project came to a halt and was disbanded. Another organization went with a much more expensive solution to provide digital signage to all kitchen TVs to and primary floor TV elevators the following years after Covid-19. During our time with Xibo, we enjoyed the flexibility as well as the open ended interface to create content. There were so many in-house Amazon teams trying to create home brew digital signage, but could not come close to the simplicity and fulfill IT's requirement needs. I was able to administrate, design digital content, as well as deploy hardware across my sites with minimal effort once the initial setup was done right. Pros We used XIbo in 2016-2019 to help add digital signage to our IT offices. To provide information and current events to our customers. We deployed this over 30 different sites/screens at the time and we enjoyed the management features as well as the ability to sideload this particular piece of software into almost any android device. At the time, we chose a FireStick TV. We also deployed this to a Consumer Engagement business group to help them provide current information to their organization on 12, 4k TV screens. At the time, the Firestick TVs had limitations to their memory and random firmware updates would wrestle control of the Xibo display screen. With this issue, we purchased the DS devices hardware to deploy across the 12 screens. No issues, and management and licensing were easy as well as the hardware swap. After beta-testing these 12 DS devices we deployed it to the rest of our organizations 30 sites, getting rid of the Firestick TVs. Cons At the time, the Management of licenses and the site management/administration of xibo devices were separate accounts. It was sometimes difficult to know if we have went over our device license at the time. There were MANY Amazon home brew products that just did not work for us. All of those products came and went and were discarded. September 9, 2025 5.0 I've been using self-hosted Xibo since the early (v1.2 via LaunchPad) days in a few of our local gyms, dance studio, karate school, sports venue and sports café - for promotions, menu's, live viewing of classes and as a modern alternative to printed signage for sponsors. Even though there was no money to be made of me, \[sensitive content hidden\] always responded to my questions and feedback on the forums and treated me as a valued user. Many years later, with quite a few additional screens and hosted CMS installations, still the Xibo crew is as ready to help me as ever, at times even advising to stick to the self-hosted CMS for my needs. As new clients come along, I will for sure recommend Xibo for their Digital Signage. Xibo is quite easy to use, affordable, versatile, scalable and offers great service. So for their continued hard work on this fantastic product, open and honest communication, and lack of pushing me towards paid solutions when self-hosted works fine, I can only say - having tried other Digital Signage platforms as well - they more than deserve a 5-star review. Pros Xibo offers extensive options and great versatility in the Xibo CMS and fantastic reliability of the Windows, Android and Tizen players (I have no experience with the other players, I can only assume those other players are just as reliable!). Cons There used to be quite a steep learning curve for the less tech savvy user, but the Xibo Training modules have improved that experience tremendously. It might seem complicated at first, but once you learn the ropes, you'll love how many things you can do. Pros Versatility, no matter if you're a small store owner, or running a massive company with hundreds of displays, you'll find the right solution with Xibo. Allso it's very affordable, having an option to go with them. or host it yourself is a big deal for many small companies that are new in the media field. Cons Early days there were a lot of unexplained bugs with no solutions so you had to have some workarounds. The longer they're on the market, the fewer you'll see. The bad thing is that these bugs/limitations were out in the open for years, not really treated as critical. Or they were critical, just too big to tackle quickly. Cons You bought a license for a version of Android player that is not compatible, usable, for another version. So everytime you upgrade your player you have to bought again the license. It’s given us an efficient way to share news and updates around the college, and the ability to manage everything from a central point has saved us a lot of time. The system is reliable and easy for staff to pick up, even those who aren’t particularly technical. Any issues we’ve had have generally been easy to resolve, and the flexibility of using an on-site server with Android sticks has fitted our needs really well. Xibo has become an essential part of how we communicate with staff and students across the school. Pros Xibo has made it really straightforward for us to present college news and key information across the school. The system is genuinely easy to use, even for staff with minimal IT experience. We really appreciate the flexibility of running our own on-site server and managing our screens using Android sticks, which keeps things reliable and cost-effective. The web interface is intuitive, and scheduling content or updating screens takes just a few clicks. Overall, Xibo gives us a simple, effective way to keep everyone informed with minimal hassle. Cons Sometimes the initial setup can be a bit fiddly, especially when configuring the Android sticks and connecting them to the server for the first time. There have also been occasions where updates or new layouts take a little longer than expected to sync to all the screens. August 12, 2025 4.0 Overall experience is great for this kind of software. Cheaper then most of the available commercial solutions for networks of 100+ devices. Pros Open Source and Self-Hosted option. Wide feature selection available out of the box. Perpetual licensing available for "client" devices. Decent server software performance. Server-side software can be customized. Pretty easy learning curve. Cons Laggy hardware (solvable), breaking updates sometimes, quickly fixed usually though. Pricey Cloud options and addons. Lack of SSH commands to their own hardware, inability to reboot remotely "out-of-the-box) in case of app crash on android. Don't worry, it is a great product, you just have to invest time to learn about it and all it provides. Pros It is very customizable, easy to deploy and it makes digital signage simple enough to use. The costs are fairly low (licenses for Android devices), but mostly it is free (server portion, and Windows licenses). Cons It can be hard to use all the functions and to make full use of Xibo. There are so many functions and options that are buried in settings and menus ... but after you familiarise yourself with Xibo, it is a pleasure to use. It is a powerful, professional-grade tool that offers incredible flexibility for our environment. While it takes some time to build the initial structure, the result is a highly reliable system that handles daily rotations and specific weekday blocks perfectly. Pros The most impressive feature is the high level of control over Screen Management and Display Management. We configured it to show some different Things every day, the automation via Playlists and Scheduling makes daily operations effortless. It is a powerful tool for Marketing and Advertising, as I can target specific groups on different days. Additionally, the ability to create and reuse Templates (Layouts) ensures a consistent look across all screens. I love that I only need to upload MP4s to a playlist to update my entire advertising loop. Cons The initial learning curve is quite steep, especially regarding the terminology. Distinguishing between Layouts, Regions, and Playlists can be confusing for beginners. It allows us to ensure consistent branding and messaging in all our stores, while also giving us the flexibility to tailor content for local audiences. Updates and content changes are quick and easy, and the system is robust even with heavy use. It’s made internal comms and promotions much more effective across all sites. Pros Xibo is incredibly reliable, flexible, and easy to manage at scale. Being able to centrally control content across nearly 30 different store locations from one dashboard is a huge time-saver. The scheduling tools are powerful, and the layout designer gives us a lot of creative control without needing specialist skills. It works perfectly for digital signage in a retail/community setting. Cons There’s a bit of a learning curve at the beginning, particularly with understanding layout regions and media timelines. It displayed news from my website intertwined with ads for companies that operated in the business. All I had to do was to set up Xibo "on prem" (my own server) and use a cheap TV-box as a client. No hussle. Pros I was looking for an affordable DOOH platform for my business and Xibo was by far the most complete option. Its RSS news grabbing capabilitie, was decisive for choosing this platform, since I work with news media. It was easy to install and set up. Cons The edit page is a little cumbersome. Its GUI for editing a screen could be more feature-rich, like Canva's, where you can just slide and move objects in the timeline.
