My emplyees are using it and till yet there were no complains about the usage or any other matter. It is a set and forget platform that you will not worry about missing a beat. September 23, 2025 5.0 I've been in digital signage since 2002, I've used many different CMS over the years and factoring all the variables in such as Price, Features, security, hardware compatibility etc. there is no better use of money than moving to a xibo platform. Pros My favorite part about xibo is the open-source code. Most CMS platforms would charge thousands of dollars to customize the UI to your preferences, if they'd do it at all. With xibo it can be done extremely easy by any developer. Their documentation is robust and easy for most to follow. Their openness to new and different ideas from the community of users makes their product feature set more impressive with each release Cons The most common complaint I hear from our customers and internal people using xibo is that the interface looks very outdated, and most find it hard to use. There are a lot of buttons that you can click on and the average user doesn't bother to read the instruction xibo has posted and get frustrated. Under Windows 11, we were never able to figure out a way to prevent pop-ups of various types from showing up. Once we switched to using Ubuntu Linux, everything has been very stable and we could avoid all the unnecessary bloatware, tracking, marketing that Microsoft forces you to endure. Sadly, Xibo tech support was not able to provide us with helpful support for the Windows 11 client issues. We eventually figured out a solution on our own. Pros It's very convenient to use the cloud hosted service. Being able to remotely update, schedule, and delegate content updates is a major benefit. Being able to use Linux client that I can manage though Ubuntu Landscape saves me a lot of grief and avoided the hassles we faced with Windows 11. Linux also provided more useful debugging information. It's well priced, an excellent value. Cons I think it's very easy to over-complicate processes. A lot could be simplified and made more intuitive. Xibo Tech support did not offer much help with our client issues. IT Support Engineer Information Technology and Services Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Xibo at Amazon Corporate IT" October 6, 2025 5.0 Xibo did the job, we were able to have a source for site content and to be able to relay the information to our sites as soon as the event popped up. Sadly, after Covid-19 the project came to a halt and was disbanded. Another organization went with a much more expensive solution to provide digital signage to all kitchen TVs to and primary floor TV elevators the following years after Covid-19. During our time with Xibo, we enjoyed the flexibility as well as the open ended interface to create content. There were so many in-house Amazon teams trying to create home brew digital signage, but could not come close to the simplicity and fulfill IT's requirement needs. I was able to administrate, design digital content, as well as deploy hardware across my sites with minimal effort once the initial setup was done right. Pros We used XIbo in 2016-2019 to help add digital signage to our IT offices. To provide information and current events to our customers. We deployed this over 30 different sites/screens at the time and we enjoyed the management features as well as the ability to sideload this particular piece of software into almost any android device. At the time, we chose a FireStick TV. We also deployed this to a Consumer Engagement business group to help them provide current information to their organization on 12, 4k TV screens. At the time, the Firestick TVs had limitations to their memory and random firmware updates would wrestle control of the Xibo display screen. With this issue, we purchased the DS devices hardware to deploy across the 12 screens. No issues, and management and licensing were easy as well as the hardware swap. After beta-testing these 12 DS devices we deployed it to the rest of our organizations 30 sites, getting rid of the Firestick TVs. Cons At the time, the Management of licenses and the site management/administration of xibo devices were separate accounts. It was sometimes difficult to know if we have went over our device license at the time. There were MANY Amazon home brew products that just did not work for us. All of those products came and went and were discarded. September 10, 2025 5.0 Started using Xibo primarily for large retail estates around 4 years ago, after trying pretty much everything else - including in-house CMS in the 90s. Xibo gives us the flexibility to adapt to different scenarios and requirements, which makes it ideal for prototyping. The automation elements mean we can run large networks without constant intervention. Pros The flexibility; the ability to schedule .htz and dynamic overlays, which have proved invaluable, giving me opportunities I haven't seen before in scheduling software - I've been doing this since 1989. The Android player is suoer stable. Cons Black burst between videos on Windows player really needs resolving as it makes Xibo unsuitable for a commercial environment when there is a requirement for a Windows player. We've found the transition from CMS 3 to 4 quite difficult as it appeared top have a fundamentally different work flow from what we are used to, but everything is settling down now. However, the learning curve is in reality longer than it may appear at first glance. Most of the issues we had to solve in real deployments did not originate in CMS or Client, but were instead purely Android or network-related matters. Pros In terms of price/performance ratio it is absolutely outstanding. The platform is very feature-rich and in our experience most users, even after a year, still do not take full advantage of everything it offers – yet it already covers practically all their real-world needs and requests. Cons We encountered poorly documented API. While it seemed that Swagger would be sufficient, in practice we were pushed into using undocumented functions. Another significant issue is the logging system. The use of logs of various types is far from intuitive. In our case, especially reports from ExoPlayer and their correct interpretation are a nightmare. Honestly, the overall approach to log organization is not good – I cannot say how to do it properly, but I know I dread dealing with it. Ideally, something like a built-in interpreter or even a connection to an LLM that could make logs more useful would be a real improvement. It might seem complicated at first, but once you learn the ropes, you'll love how many things you can do. Pros Versatility, no matter if you're a small store owner, or running a massive company with hundreds of displays, you'll find the right solution with Xibo. Allso it's very affordable, having an option to go with them. or host it yourself is a big deal for many small companies that are new in the media field. Cons Early days there were a lot of unexplained bugs with no solutions so you had to have some workarounds. The longer they're on the market, the fewer you'll see. The bad thing is that these bugs/limitations were out in the open for years, not really treated as critical. Or they were critical, just too big to tackle quickly. The issues we do have are as much to do with the computers it runs on as anything for the most part, though we have had a few webpages layouts that have thrown us for a loop. Pros Easy setup and configuration of the basic system. Responsive portal. Competitive pricing. Pretty flexible setup. Support is quick to respond. Cons With customizing power comes complexity. I'd like more up-to-date training and some kind of "Basic" mode for less advanced users. I'd also love some more examples of advanced layouts that I could look at and show to team members for inspiration. The Xibo players are cost-effective when compared to other markets. Pros Once configured, the software runs smoothly with minimal downtime or need for intervention. The support documentation is helpful. Cons The GUI has a steep learning curve for non-technical users. While highly customizable, many prefer a simpler, slide-deck-like experience. Purchasing the hardware requires 3rd-party vendors, which is a markup for higher edu. I use it for digital signage at conferences and use pocket PC's to run the Xibo Windows client. The layout tool is easy, the media handling is intuitive and the scheduling is robust. My largest deployment was 41 digital signs at the American Institute of Architecture San Francisco meeting in 2023. Pros The CMS is very powerful. It is easy to create dynamic signage. Also, the scheduling has been able to handle any of my needs. Cons The only real con is when it looses internet connectivity. When this happens, the windows client simply shows the Xibo splash page. IT Director Religious Institutions Used the software for: 1-2 years ### "Xibo is a great self-hosting signage solution" July 22, 2025 5.0 Easy to setup the Virtual Machine if you have basic Linux experience Minimal maintenance required other than trimming out your old files and updating the VM periodically Easy to use for the end users Pros Xibo is super easy to use. After looking at the cost of other solutions, which are largely moving to cloud-only solutions so they can lock you into to monthly fees, being able to create a Linux Virtual Machine on-prem (for free!) is an amazing alternative. I can create our weekly signage very easily using Xibo and since I cast to Windows computers behind displays, the licensing cost was also free. Cons I originally bought the licensing to have Xibo talk directly to my Samsung TVs but eventually it stopped working well and became a headache, and troubleshooting got harder. So I switched to using Windows computers behind the TVs and that really helped because you get better troubleshooting information from these, and it just seems to work better. I do sometimes have issues with the Windows computers showing the desktop bar on top of the signage, things like that, but the more I work on tweaking the computers, the less that is a thing. The App tries its best to keep itself online and on top but could possibly be a bit better there. They were wanting to discontinue this product and move us to using a Cloud based subscription product, plus we never could get MagicInfo to deploy correctly to have a successful launch, and Xibo just works. At te moment I can manage layouts, schedules, displays and campaigns and quite satisfied about. Pros It is multi platform and easy to apply on Android devices. It's good Q/P ratio and very affordable plans. Customer care very reliable and fast. Cons CMS is missing clear commands for edit layouts.Eg: copy and paste of clips and content on the timeline and so on.Perhaps it's on me that I don't know yet a way to do it. I'm sure something will be implemented.
