For tech-savvy teams or smaller fleets, it offers great value, but for our specific needs, Samsara’s simplicity and streamlined UX made it a better fit. Pros Geotab had lower upfront costs compared to our current provider, Samsara, while still offering many comparable features. If you are tech-savvy, it’s a solid, scalable solution – especially for smaller fleets. We never experienced any major issues with the hardware or software, and the GPS tracking was consistently reliable. Cons While Geotab’s core functionality was strong, we found that Samsara delivered a more streamlined and intuitive experience, which proved essential for managing our large fleet of independent contractors. Geotab often required additional setup, third-party plugins, or multiple apps to achieve what Samsara offers out of the box. For example, Samsara combines ELD, DVIR, dispatch, and document submission into a single, easy-to-use driver app, whereas Geotab relied on multiple apps. Geotab’s more modular approach offered flexibility, but lacked the cohesion and simplicity we needed. Its UI was also a bit less intuitive, and felt a bit clunkier and more difficult for our dispatchers and drivers to navigate. It's a bit like comparing Android to Apple: Geotab gives you lots of control and customization, while Samsara delivers a more polished, user-friendly experience right away. Customer service is always ready to help (even for customization stuff). They have a crazy amount of awesome apps to add into your software for fuel stops, mapping/ trip planning, etc.... trust me, you'll have a blast piecing stuff together. You have full control to either turn on/ off, add or deactivate many extra items. Pros This is the best safety complaint Transportation software you will ever use for ELD's, live tracking and so much more... You will Love it!!! ELD Logs are in color and highlighted to display violations for easy viewing. Makes managing your drivers and fleet so easy at a cost that's beats the competitors. Cons No Cons to mention. We like tracking outr mileage and stops the buses make. It make is easier to locate vehicles that are stationed at other facilities when maintenance is due. Once we got past the learning curve, Geotab became a go-to tool for managing our vehicles and improving efficiency. The support team has also been quick to respond when we had questions. It’s made a noticeable difference in how we run our operations. Pros I really liked how easy it was to see everything going on with our fleet in one place. The real-time tracking is super helpful, and the reports gave us great insight into things like fuel usage and driver behavior. It helped us make smarter decisions quickly. Cons The platform can feel a bit overwhelming at first—there are so many features that it takes some time to get used to. Sophisticated data analysis of fuel consumption integrated with driving behavior, route planning, and control of idle time to give tangible recommendations on minimizing fuel use on the vehicles in the fleet. Cons If there are many vehicles in the area, for example, in the center of large cities, the map interface may sometimes freeze. Small growth in content customization for automated report frames. Pros The features that stand out are- OBD connected vehcile data, collision reconstruction & the g sensor for driver behaviour insights.It gives businesses real data that are important to making insightful fleet actions Cons The biggest issue may be the wait time for the product development team to implement any feature requests. Pros We love the live GPS tracking system with all the tools that comes with that makes it hard for drivers to go off course and waste time and gas . Cons I have not found anything I dont like we are a fairly small company and dont need all the management tools but I can see how they could help in larger companies with many trucks on the road . Reason for choosing Geotab Just the ease of working with it .We had some very older people in that department that were not computer savvy at all had problems working their cell phones . Pros It gives an update on vehicles location and their driver, who is sleeping and who is driving, plus it gives an api in almost all programing language to access it from our system. Cons It doesn't give the total miles of each vehicle in a specific date range directly, what it does is it gives all the records of the odometer reading since the device is installed, and we have to calculate manually by subtracting the last reading to the first reading in a specific date range. and it is too slow to load if the date range is high and also it doesn't give option to search with more than one vehicle. We have worked with all the major competitors in that time, including Qualcomm/OmniTracs, PeopleNet/Trimble, KeepTrucking/Motive, Samsara, Platform Science, Orbcomm, and others.Geotab is a unique product. We have found it is able to solve business challenges we never through possible, like fully real-time updates and alerts within seconds of a driver situation in the field or being able to re-analyze and report data in arrears months or years after the fact, like building a zone around a section of a terminal parking lot and seeing which drivers \*ever\* entered that space.While we still provide integration for all the major players, we have been able to create more custom solutions and solve more business challenges with Geotab than any other Telematics system to date, and we look forward to ever-increasing capabilities and features from their team. Pros Geotab captures and aggregates real-world data like no other system we've ever seen. You can watch a truck pulling out of the parking lot in real-time or look back a year ago at exactly how a driver backed into a dock over multiple attempts. You can reconstruct what happened in an accident second-by-second, or re-evaluate all the times your drivers entered or exited a specific location over the entire history of your database on the fly.They also believe the data is \*yours\*, to keep and use as you see fit, and give full access to their system through a completely open API. "Traditional" players (Qualcomm/OmniTracs, PeopleNet/Trimble) defined how data would be fed to back-end systems over 20 years ago, and most Transportation Management Systems still use those patterns today.The quality and volume of Geotab data is in a whole new league. Finding a middle ground to emulate the "Traditional" data feeds while also updating those TMS platforms to use the data available through Geotab is an ongoing challenge, but well worth the effort. Those customers often found the real-time nature of Geotab to be far different than competitors, and the Marketplace containing extensive custom add-ins that add functionality from partners directly into the user interface (such as Lytx DriveCam) to be incredibly powerful. Additionally, the cost of Geotab was often highly competitive, especially in equipping a fleet. Additionally, there's no built-in engine for creating reports within the platform - you're limited to Excel reports. Managing a large fleet of vehicles (over 1000) can be difficult, specifically in terms of editing and filtering. The level of technical support leaves much to be desired, with long resolution times and feedback that often lacks in-depth analysis of the problem and potential corrective measures. Pros I love the ability to see where our equipment is real time. Someone broke into our yard and I was able to provide real time helpful "when did it happen" information to the police thanks to the "show trip option". Cons There are still some aspects of the software I don't like. Drivers if they get busy and forget to log in right away the driver prior is automatically thrown into ON DUTY. This creates log issues which are not fixed instantly due to it being a "cloud" based. I also do wish they would make the "show trip" option more easy to read for drivers with multiple stops.
