Pros It is great value for money: our team gets a flexible and powerful Gantt management system, easy to use and elegant to visualise. We get all that we need in one place, have not experienced any downtime or difficulty in using it day in, day out. One time the strg z option menu had a bug where it didnt disappear after making changes, and then it didnt work for some elements, but for others wich caused some troubles, but after reloading the page it did disappear. had to repair some parts of the gantt tho Pros Good Export possibilities (With PDF and the Snapshots). Also everything else except things in the cons :) Cons \- Overwhelming UI with to many different Navigations/to many levels (Sidebar, Many Nav: Name (with things that look like nav) => Views => Options for current Gantt) and moreover, every navigation has a different styling. - I dont like the implementation of Milestones. I would like to mark a section as milestone, or at least connect a mileston to a section, so its clear everything in this section is part and needed for the milestone. Moreover a higlighting of milestones in the minimap would be useful for navigation. Or, a fixed line on top where e.g. milestones are shown always. - I loose orientation when zooming in, but I cant zoom outwards enough. I hope you will not make this a complex UI by integrating more tools and settings because we decided to choose Instagantt specially because of its simple UI which even non-technical managers also be able to use it easily. Pros I like the gantt chart user interface and its design styles which is well maintained with its great user experience. Cons Log in behavior is seems to be having some defects. When I'm already logged in and after about a day or 2, once I try to visit the gantt chart by my recent links it shows me this browser alert "An error has ocurred connecting to our servers. Please login again or try clearing your cookies". Then even if I try to enter "https://app.instagantt.com", it redirects me to "https://app.instagantt.com/r" and shows the above mentioned same alert. Seems like for me, there's no way than clearing the site cookies to overcome this. I am trying to get approval from my procurement team. However, a lot of non-technical users get overwhelmed by it at first. Personally, I want better portfolio and 'big-picture' features connecting each project together. I use the 'all projects' master gantt view more than anything else. Pros Simplicity and compact nature of data presentation. However, I want a better workload UI and a much better dashboard UI. Overall, the ideas a good, but the execution feels rough and without polish. For example, the member and admin aspects are extremely dated and not user friendly. Cons Lack of UI polish. Lots of menus feel very dated. Several spelling errors and poor English grammar (I would suggest hiring a English copy editor to ensure UI text is consistent throughout). But then it means that I have milestones separated from the tasks needed to achieve them... Maybe.... a "milestones only" view would solve the problem, and remove all the nitty gritty that people don't have time to look at. That could be an idea actually...! Pros I load Asana project onto Instagantt, from back when Asana did not have a timeline feature. I keep preferring Instagantt even now: it has a more detailed and professional feel, I can zoom out and have a bird's eye view on very complex projects (200+ tasks)..which is why I take time building out ganttcharts (don't need them for simple proejcts..) Cons It has a few bugs and sometimes is a bit finicky. The dependencies for example, they do not always work well and I still don't seem to have understood how tasks will react to change if they are dependent or have dependants. The view is not always very easy to read, and I sometimes need to scroll up to actually check a task against the date bar on top, to see when it's actually starting/ending (Yes, I could use the start/end date on the left, but I don't want to, since I am using a gantt chart I want to just look at the gantt chart). Making the vertical lines thicker or blacker could help. Or replicating the date bar at the bottom too. Another small thing, being asked all the time if I want to order tasks by date is annoying. Fine to get a reminder as a new user, but after 4 years I know where to click to get that. Finally, I don't have specific ideas to propose, but working on improving the visualization tools to get the full picture and share with others would be great. I spend a lot of time on instagantt as part of my role and it helps me a ton, but whenever I share with the rest of the team, they hardly ever take the time to look at the whole thing and try and understand,... it just looks too daunting to them ! So in the past I used to create a second instagantt project and call it "project X - high level", keeping it simple for sharing purposes. January 13, 2021 4.0 I settled for Instagantt after reviewing many options, based on its price and interface. It works well but I still fear that using it with a larger team could be problematic. Will have to try an see how that goes. Pros First I'd like to mention that I use Instagantt to plan with Gantt charts only. Not as a management software because I think it would be too scarce for that for even a small size team. I like its price, simplicity and interface. Looked around into many and found this one to be easy to read and has a fairly compact view which I appreciate because it allows to see the big picture of the plan in one screen (most other options have extremely large o wide lines that allow you to see only a few tasks at a time). I like it is not over featured but has almost enough to work very well. I started using it as an Asana add-on but eventually we dropped Asana for Microsoft Teams and kept Instagantt as a stand alone app because Microsoft's Gantt options are far more expensive or extremely simple compared to Instagantt . That said, I do wish Instagantt could be integrated with Microsoft Teams and Task apps. Cons I don't like that it has almost no security options, meaning any user could easily erase or modify the plan -if not careful- and it is extremely difficult if not almost impossible to reconstruct it well. I don't like it has no way to track back the changes or information on who did what and when. Even when it is possible to create Baselines, it is too easy to erase them by any user and there is no option to lock that. The "undo" option works in strange ways sometimes and it will redo some moves but not others. Although there is a mobile view, it is almost useless: you can see a plan but it's so difficult to modify it on the go that it basically works to see very basic information only. Pros Instagantt is a powerful but simple tool and is great value for money when you look at similar options available online. You are able to plot your project in great detail and the Kanban view is great for client, while the swim lane view gives you an easy way to see where work is sitting, you can also change this view to suit how you want to view it. The task time tracking is very easy to use and allows a great depth of reporting during and after projects. I would highly recommend this software for people needing to manage a project with multiple team members. Cons The only con and this can be said of most software is that is very reliant on user-input and that the project is detailed thoroughly to get the best use out of the software. Where I regularly become a bit stuck was when generating a snapshop view and link appeared in my browser, I couldn't instantly know the difference and had to be careful when copying and pasting the snapshot link into my reports, that I was not copying across the working file. The ONLY visible difference is the little cog icon next to the project name. This I only clicked to look for later. I would want to suggest perhaps a subtle background color change at the very top panel when seeing a snapshot. Pros Enjoyed the snapshot tool. The information displayed across the date line, week number, the punchy current day in red and the fact that it instantly highlights the duration of a task or group on roll-over ...all very good. Especially when working on multiple stacked workstreams in a waterfall approach. Cons UI - sorry, but I am a fan of Teamgantt with it's more open UI. I feel more confident sharing timing plans with design team using teamgantt than Instagantt. That said, you have hit that middle between IMO Smartsheet being pretty horrible and Teamgantt being my 1st choice tool. Can't show more than one phase for a workstream on the same line, forcing you to stack creating deep charts. This I know is an almost impossible thing to solve in a gantt chart but when wanting to show a client a compressed quick view of a program, Program Managers often rebuild the plan in a sheet. Cons Colums, As all other gantt chart programs it lack formula functionality between colum values. it sohuld work like and excel sheet with some added gantt chart functions. Pros Easy and intuitive to plan and share. My team loves it and we use it for Sprint planning. Cons Ticky tacky stuff. Dependencies are difficult to delete. I don't really need the time tracking, and that takes up a lot of the UI space, but it's probably very useful for dedicated PM's. I would loooove to integrate this with Trello. Pros It's quick to learn, Nice presentation, Collaboration, Easy Export Features. Cons Mainly the issue is that it still does not complety replace Primavera, so we will pay for Primavera (Industry Standard) + an Primavera Expert along with our instagantt subscribtion which is our biggest problem. The main features that have to be added as soon as possible: 1. Planned & Actual Duration of each Item 2. Capability to add the delay in every item in a diffrent color so that the user can visulaize the Pland Duration and the Days that it was delayed in. (Currently we are limited to just extending the item that is delayed and the client has no reference to how much it was delayed) a delayed days coloumn would be great as well 3. The overall project process never matches with Primavera which causes a big issue. Feature like exporting overall project process into an excel chart would be very very helpful. 4. You have to add an export feature were you can print the gantt chart on multiple A3 or A4 papers. Because especcialy for long projects the gantt chart tends to be very wide and we have to print it on A0 then cut it which is a big hassle. 5. Capability to add comments or Alerts next to each item. It suits well for my simple projects with a team of 3-5 members and project length 1-6 weeks. Pros Simplicity, intuitive drag&drop interface, not overloaded buy different buttons and features On-Click. Only what I really need at the moment and on the current page. Cons 1\. I'm unable to split task on two or three or ten parts. If I put a task on hold (which is usual situation during any project) I have to create a new one on a new line and name it like Task Part 2, Part 10. That's unconvinient and creates much trash and disorder. 2. Weekends. Yes, You have a setting wether a project goes on on weekends or not. But what if I want to work on weekend during a non-weekend project? Or, vice-versa, I don't want to work on a single weekend on a straight project? I have to split tasks again. These 2 points has the same roots - Instagantt definitely needs an option to split tasks. And it is an urgent modification as far as without it it is just a semy-gantt chart. Reason for choosing Instagantt 1\. The most convinient, and intuitive interface, everything is clear, and is where it has to be. No need to study. Just set up and go! 2. Fair price for my scope of tasks.
