As a Trust, I would say we are one of the most advanced nationally with our use of EDGE and have presented several times at EDGE conferences and supported other Trusts with their development and use of the system. Pros EDGE is a fantastic project management system for Research! My role is in Data and Reporting and I am also our Trust's Lead Admin and trainer for the system so I use it constantly through my working day. The user interface is very clean and easy to navigate and I love how customisable the system is with options such as creating custom forms for data collection on research studies and participants. Cons As with all systems there is always room for improvement and development and the support team are fantastic at working on developing and progressing the system and also supporting Trusts with any suggestions and ideas. However, the only area of the system I would love to see developed further is the audit functionality to allow more thorough and accurate auditing of data entry and user management, particularly as our Trust uses every aspect of the system so fully. Some of them were wary about using the system but the feedback has been very positive and they have found it easy to use. Pros The team are super responsive, if you have any issues they are always on hand to troubleshoot. when you go to them with suggestions for improvements, they take them on board and action them where possible. All of my reporting function goes through EDGE so it certainly makes my life much easier. Cons IM generally a big fan of EDGE and i know that upgrades can be a difficult process, but sometimes when upgrades have been done, the field names can sometimes change slightly, which then throws out my reports. From my experience, EDGE is a strong and practical clinical trial management system, especially for academic, regional, or national clinical trial environments where a shared platform is needed. Overall, I consider EDGE to be a worthwhile investment. It is easy to use once good processes are in place, and its value increases significantly when organizations use it consistently and connect it to reporting, dashboarding, and portfolio management processes. For 3CTN Coordination, EDGE has supported both operational management and higher-level analysis, making it an important part of our clinical trial informatics infrastructure. Pros What I like most about EDGE is that it provides an integrated way to track the full clinical trial process, from early pre-trial and feasibility activities through study activation, ongoing trial operations, recruitment monitoring, finance-related tracking, and trial completion. This process tracking is one of EDGE’s most valuable and unique features because it helps streamline work across the clinical trial lifecycle instead of treating each stage as a separate activity. EDGE is also well suited for use by a clinical trial network, region, or group of organizations that need a shared platform for working with the same trials and projects. As a web-based clinical trial management system, it allows member sites to maintain trial information directly in one platform while enabling network-level users to work with aggregate data for monitoring, reporting, and planning. Going from using paper diaries and spreadsheets to using Edge for every aspect of managing research and participants was invaluable. Pros Edge transformed our daily workflow by bringing everything into one centralised system. Every aspect of the study and participant journey is managed within Edge, from study set up, finance, document management, appointments, reporting, processes and training records. Having all information in one place has significantly improved efficiency and organisation across our organisation. Easy to use and train new users. The customer and client support is always available if any problem and they take any users feedback on board to make it more user friendly. There are regular updates to the system to fix bugs and issues. The reports are very useful to give an overall picture on performance and setup workflows/forms to track any issues or help to adjust to specific timelines. Cons The system constantly logging us out every 20 minutes, but I understand it is setup for safety. We don't tend to use it yet for site file management or delegation/training logs. I am evangelical about EDGE - it's a great design! Pros Easy to use, easy to navigate around interface, tabs do what you think they will, icons are sensible, system does not respond in unexpected ways. Operations are 'foolproof' - it is almost impossible to accidentally delete or overwrite something, which makes you confident to experiment. Support materials are easily accessible and clear, support team are great and really helpful. System can be optimised to have additional 'personalised' functions via Forms and Workflows so can be easily adapted to your own ways of working. I enjoy training new staff on Edge and showing other members of the team features that we currently do not use within our Trust. If I had it my way we would be using Edge to its full advantage and Edge would be the first port of call for everyone within the department. Pros I use Edge constantly throughout my working day, it is easy to navigate around and keeps track of all the studies that I currently have in set up. I use the reports regularly to keep up to date with the tasks I need to complete each week. Uploading documents has now become so much easier with Edge 3 and there are constant updates to make our work each day easier Cons Edge logs you out of your account after not using it for 20 mins or so so constantly logging back in.
