We are heading toward retirement and are not expecting otherwise. Pros I have used the calendar and database features for years now and have never had a big problem with anything. I like that it is very law-office friendly. Cons I usually have to pay our computer technician to come to our office when we make big changes regarding integration with other programs, working within our computer network, etc. Ours is a small office and we don't have anyone on staff with those capabilities. However, we consider this a business cost and have never had any major problems once the work is done. I would change software but for the time consuming nature or changing billing software. Pros Adding billing entries to a client's account is easy and very user friendly. Cons There are issues with the accounting features, and sometimes adding a credit or correcting a mistake made in prior billing cycles compounds past issues. Review Source CS Carolyn S. Pros I like the calendar and names/matters features - this makes it easy to link a client to various other people involved in their case, and make sure that we can stay on top of deadlines. The "link email to client matter" feature seems very useful but I have been unable to make it work long-term (e.g., if I enable that setting one day, it will not still be enable the next time I log in). Cons The "medical providers" tab only has ten slots to input treating providers, and it is prohibitively expensive to pay to add another tab (perhaps the system is designed that way intentionally to generate additional revenue). August 20, 2018 5.0 Pros I appreciate that this software is completely customize-able. Abacus is intuitive software with unlimited capabilities in how it can be used across varying formats. There are so many features that after 3 years of using it, we are still excited when we come across something else that Abacus can do for our firm. Cons Our office has talked extensively about wanting the option for an expert to come to us and work with us to set up Abacus better using the features it is capable of. We know that we are only touching on what it can do and with our limited time/expertise, do not have the ability to customize it to it's fullest. Pros IF... and only IF set up properly most pleadings can be pre drafted and auto filled IF and ONLY IF all case info is put in correctly. Cons A little slow for my own taste. Pros I use Abacus Law everyday. I am a remote employee and Abacus Law gives me access to the complete file. Our office has a high volume of cases and what I like the best about Abacus Law is the ability to run reports such as the Malpractice Report which allows you to make sure you don't miss an important date. Reports can also be used to systematically review cases and to highlight discrepancies. Cons I would like the process to customize a screen to be easier. Review Source YA Yolanda A. Am considering legal action for breach of contract. So dissatisfied. Loved my Amicus Small Firm but the upgrade has compromised our work. Worse part is the boilerplate response to unsolved problems. Pros Repeating events feature. Cons Too many to state all. The worst are lack of knowledgeable technicians and when the issue is referred to upper techs calls are at odd hours and you call back to a voicemail. " October 3, 2017 5.0 Greatest benefit is the capacity to integrate document management and financial management and billing. Pros We are a small office so the use of AbacusLaw makes our document management (storage & access), time management and accounting particularly important. The integration of all of these function makes it possible for my partner and me to manage an active real estate practice and divorce mediation practice with support staff. Additionally, on the few occasions we have has some sort of a glitch the support team has been quick to address it. Cons I have very little to offer on the negative side. They are always looking for ways to go above and beyond your expectations and keep their customer happy! Pros I like that it's an all-in-one kind of program. You can do scheduling for multiple people, attach files and documents to appts for easy access, do billing, color coordinate categories for different types appts, which is super helpful if you work in a general law practice. Cons Sometimes it freezes up in the middle of doing something. Just annoying to close out the program and go back in. Review Source RV Raffi V. May 26, 2020 4.0 Keeping a huge practice under timely control is the best, quick and knowledgeable support from the help center is critical and has been the best part of the experience. Pros Calendaring, followups, notes are nice to use. Document generation is very helpful also. Cons Integration was not very user friendly, you need someone who understands computers and the legal field very well and that is hard to come by to integrate the day to day. Also, there should be basic training modules that managers can create to track training and performance of Staff and Attorneys. Updates were easy and straightforward to install. Cons The local installed version relies on some very outdated DB backend that conflicted with an outdated DB backend for a plug-in that is sold with the software. This caused is to contantly have to make registry tweaks on all client machines any time something was thrown off balance with any app or Windows update. We were assured hlthat the cloud version was not affected by these issues, so I'd recommend that one instead as the software iteslf worked quite well outside of those problems. Pros I can't imagine another way to organize and track all of the things that we do. Between 100 clients and 10-50 different things that we track for each of them, AbacusLaw truly does keep it all together and easy to track so that we can make sure we don't miss a single thing. Cons Once you get the hang of it, general input and tracking is pretty easy. The more indepth things, like creating new projects within Matters is not user friendly. Luckily this isn't something that has to be done often, but it would be nice if those aspects were a little easier to figure out without all-in user training. It also seems to get "tired" after a lot of use and needs to be restarted sometimes near the end of the day. Review Source AK Alison K. This product has been very disappointing. Cons The program crashes on a regular basis and is untrustworthy. We have been unable to find a suitable replacement and are stuck in a contract. I've gotten pretty comfortable with the Law software and think it does a pretty good job, though it has many error messages and weird windows that open that you have to click through. It overall works okay. Accounting, however, really sucks. Accounting allows for certain functions (like batch invoicing) that just don't work very well. The customer support is local but they can have a bit of an attitude or will sometimes tell me that the software isn't perfect and I shouldn't expect too much. Pros Fairly user friendly and customizable. Cons Recent updates have changed features for the worse. The company is pushing their cloud based software now that they just got venture capital funding and they seem to be slowing breaking down their desktop version. Review Source SB Serena B. We have a lot of data stored and its helpful when you need to go back and look up old cases Pros I love the court rules and the discovery features. both of these features help when you are having a brain fart, or when you are second guessing yourself Cons The pricing is very expensive so we only have one user license. I can honestly say it’s very reliable and gets the job done. It is also very easy to use and users need minimal to no training/guidance. Cons My only complaint is that it looks quite outdated. " July 31, 2018 5.0 The dashboard is a great feature to get a snapshot of your business. It's also great having the case management and accounting package together in one solution. Pros Regarding the Balance services: CSR was the amazing asset to the Balance Program and to Abacus. She' is professional and exceptionally knowledgeable. She takes the time to educate and suggest better practices, and her customer service skills are excellent. She is wonderful to work with, and manages to take the stress out of bookkeeping. Cons Some screen layouts are counter-intuitive, and some reports that would be considered basic reports are considered custom and are only available for a fee. Review Source RW Rosalind W. I am also able to generate useful reports as well as maintain good file management. Pros The billing and accounting software is the most impactful for me as a solo practitioner with little experience in accounting software. The File creation process is also very helpful. If you call them, a tech actually answers who is capable of solving your problem and does solve it. Pros I recently needed to update some software from a third party vendor-TurboTax. The customer service reps at Abacus Private Cloud were able to get this updated quickly and painlessly. Anyone installing TT updates knows that just finding the update in your account is not easy. Cons I would have to say that the software is solid but a little old-fashioned on the customer facing side. It is not user friendly all the time and can be a challenge to learn.
